Why does my monitor keep turning off when I play Sea of Thieves?

  • Get ready for a long explanation of my problem.

I just got a new computer 2 days ago and was excited to play SoT again, since my old pc was broken. I download SoT and everything is working fine. Then, my monitor randomly shuts off. My pc is still running btw. My monitor will not turn back on, unless I shut the entire pc down. The computer runs fine and this problem does not occur unless I am playing SoT. I have tried everything I can. I have swapped HDMI cords for my monitor. I swapped the monitor's power cable. I switched the entire monitor itself. It isn't a cooling or graphical problem. It is a new pc from a reliable manufacturer, named Starforge Systems, so they shouldn't have messed up my pc at all in terms of cooling. I made sure all of the cooling inside of the pc works and it does. All of my graphics are turned down to the lowest settings and I have a 4070, so I can scratch that off the things that are causing the problem. I updated all of my drivers, so that is not the problem either.

It seems as if god himself is the root of the problem, because its as if some magical force is doing this to me.

Can somebody please help me, I am actually loosing it.

  • Unfortunately I have literally no idea what could cause this besides maybe your monitors size not matching up, but that shouldn't trigger a shut down. I'd say just play plugged into a TV or something using HDMI but it sounds like that might not be it either. You'll probably have to contact the company that made your PC, and also Microsoft for this one. That or just don't play SoT, if it's not working it may be one of those things you'll have to avoid until you have another PC or system that will run it. I'm sure someone on the forum may have an idea but I think your manufacturer is going to be the only one that can give you a really solid answer.

  • @oonoseyoo "Don't play SoT" :(

    Thanks for the answer tho

  • @TinyFoxtato6252 The only thing that springs to mind would be to check the Power & Sleep Settings in Windows to see if 'Power Saving' mode is enabled by default or that the PC/Displays are set to turn off/sleep after a certain period of time.

Is anything in your system overheating when this happens? A similar issue was found here and indicates it could be a GPU overheat/crash recovery.

  • @triheadedmonkey Tried that. Didn't work
