My hope for the next crossover event: One Piece

  • I honestly believe that the world and characters of One Piece would fit brilliantly into Sea of Thieves! Ever since I saw the official SoT comic, where one of the panels showed Luffy and Zoro amidst a crowd of pirates, and as I've become more and more of a fan of One Piece recently, I NEED THIS!

Whether it's an interactive tall tale, similarly to Monkey Island, or just a cosmetic crossover, similarly to the Halo set, I would be happy either way! Being able to sail with official Going Merry, Red Force, Thousand Sunny, and other ships, would be an absolute dream!

I don't think it's impossible, either! Remember when once upon a time, the idea of Pirates of the Caribbean in SoT was a laughed-at idea? While it may seem far out now, Rare has shown they are more than capable of scoring amazing partnerships with different studios to bring us amazing crossover events, and I feel like One Piece would be the perfect third.

    Thoughts? :)

  • almost everything I know about one piece comes from sot players liking one piece lol

there is a shared fan base to an easily noticeable degree

imo if monkey island was worth it to them then it's likely that one piece would be as well

  • I feel the same! A lot of folks who I've spoken with that play SoT, also are either fresh into One Piece, or have already watched/love the show. Personally, I just got to the Water 7 Arc, and I'm loving every bit of One Piece, and especially hyped for the Netflix live action series.

But yeah, even if it were something as simple as some ship/pirate cosmetics, I would 1000% buy every single one. I even named my current Galleon, "Red Force" after Shanks' ship!

  • The problem in this case is that for Pirates of the Caribbean and Monkey Island Rare could remake all the art in SoT fashion.

In One Piece the art is a major part of the brand, I can't imagine they would want Rare to redo that to match and we sure don't want multiple art styles.

  • I don't know anything dealing with One Piece other than pirate.

  • If the Netflix series fails. I wouldn’t wanna add it.

  • @foambreaker They've already got Zoro and Luffy in one of the SoT comics! Plus the Strawhat's character designs aren't TOO over the top crazy, honestly.

  • @burnbacon I can see that! But if the reviews are anything to go by, I don't think that's going to be an issue - everyone that's reviewed it so far has said that not only is One Piece easily the best live-action adaptation ever, some have even said it's one of the best Netflix shows to-date.

Personally, I've been following this show's development since the start, and the amount of love, dedication, respect, and admiration for the source material is astounding. The cast are all fans of One Piece, and only want to do the manga/anime justice. Oda himself has been heavily involved in nearly ever facet as well. I think this show is going to break the internet, honestly.

  • From a personal point of view, I have never seen any mention of One Piece being mentioned in relation to Sea of Thieves other than One Piece fans wanting a crossover 'because pirates' on the Forums.

As for PotC and Monkey Island, they have often been quoted as inspirations/influences in the development of Sea of Thieves.

The same goes for Goonies and Indiana Jones, which I think would fit more (and already have nods/influences).

Just because something has Pirates doesn't automatically mean it should be a 'thing' in Sea of Thieves.

Also, isn't there already a straw hat in Sea of Thieves?

  • @triheadedmonkey Wow now that you mentioned it Indiana Jones surely already has an influence.

  • @triheadedmonkey True, I definitely see what you mean! I definitely see how PotC and MI had direct inspiration for SoT, and believe me, I was over the moon when those crossovers were added.

Me personally, it's not that I want One Piece simply because, "pirates" - I feel like those characters would just fit right in, honestly! The Strawhats love of adventure, and all the wonderful things they see throughout the Grand Line helps shape them and tell stories, much like how the Sea of Thieves shapes OUR pirate's stories!

I know it may never happen, and that's okay if it doesn't, but I just imagine a scenario where the Strawhats find some special log-pose that shows them how to navigate through the Shroud, and the end up in our territory!

There is :P.... now I just need some Going Merry Ship parts ;)

  • One piece is good fun, but i dont think it would cross as well with sea of thieves. They are both silly pirate themed things that arnt serious, but they are silly in very opposite ways to each other.

Little references or even inspired items would be great, but i feel like the way both worlds present them selves would clash a bit too hard. Not to mention getting the licensing would probably be an absolute nightmare!

  • Imo the only viable crossover of One Piece to SoT is only cosmetics.
Havent really watched One Piece because I didnt liked it, but its not thr reason why I dont think it would work.

Even with all the fantasy and magic in SoT its still way more grounded then One Piece, but cosmetics with pleasure!

  • Freddie Kruger would fit better than this manga with weird art and depicting all females with huge chests(Its funny how Rare censors every word related to that, but have a sex related flag outside their office and pavement tiles). I have nothing against some costume or cosmetics, but a full crossover makes no sense. Dragon Ball had few episodes related to pirates, lets add Vegeta now?

Or even better, SpongeBob, a lot of pirate references, I mean the Ghosts ships in sea of thieves are straight out of that cartoon. Wouldn't you want Spongebob and Patrick take you on an epic voyage to find mayonnaise?

  • @zig-zag-ltu Ive said it million times and ill say it more, when am I getting my Broly figurehead!?

  • @goldsmen I would be completely fine with a cosmetic-only crossover, as well honestly! As far as getting licensing goes, I can't imagine it'd be any harder than Disney. If Fortnite can get Naruto from Pierrot, I feel like Sea of Thieves could collaborate with VIZ!

  • @zig-zag-ltu I mean to be fair, people once scoffed at the idea of Pirates of the Caribbean and Monkey Island, I see this as no different. It's true that it may be better for simply a cosmetic event with One Piece (I would honestly be completely fine with this), but IF they were to do a Tall Tale styled similarly to MI, I feel it could work.

  • @valor-omega as someone mentioned, those universes helped Rare to create this game and its easy to see.. im sure if they had inspiration from one piece they will do it too if they can..

But to me its like putting pick up trucks and sport cars together, just because they both have engines and wheels

  • @zig-zag-ltu I definitely don't disagree - those IPs were heavy inspiration to be sure, but I more just meant that once upon a time, the notion of PotC being in SoT was scoffed at, and touted as impossible.

  • I'd love a One Piece crossover. There's so many opportunities for unique ideas.

Imagine having Sea of Thieves exclusive devil fruits (in the name of game balance) that are incredibly rare and can either be eaten or sold.

To balance them, you lose them once you die and they respawn elsewhere on the map. Just like in the actual lore.

They've already started doing a "one treasure" type event for Season 10, so I'm excited to see that.

Forza Horizon would like a word with you 😆

I would like to see Goonies somehow and Peter Pan (not Disney's) before One Piece.

See if you can get that Falcore guy on board 🤭you'd have sooo many more people asking...

But it wouldn't be that hard to make that hat. Nor sell it in the emporium for a preposterous price...since the fans are so rabidly needing it...

  • @pithyrumble
Listen... we've needed HOOK before any of this. Much better Peter Pan adaptation. Classic film.

Also, a hard NO on this One-Piece idea. I don't like the show, the live-action adaptation, or anything related to it.

  • As a One Piece fan (with many friends that I play SoT with that are also massive fans), take my wallet. I would buy every single emporium item from One Piece. I think it would fit better as a cosmetic crossover though. Also, to those of you like @triheadedmonkey who say just "because pirates" I disagree. Luffy especially, many of the characters are just goofy and would fit perfectly with the playfull style of SoT.

    Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

    Happy Sailing!

  • @foambreaker Not to mention localization. Imagine if they used the dub actors.

  • @valor-omega Those reviews are either bought or not written by fans of One Piece. The Live Action was awful. The whole show feels like it was written by someone who REALLY liked the Avengers movies. Characters are all changed and including Garp in as early as they did ruins the power scale for reasons we don't learn about until chapter 1000+ somewhere. They didn't read the source, they didn't listen to Oda-sensei. The only reason Oda-sensei is supporting it is because he has his own story to write and when someone spills a drink, you help Makino clean up instead of causing a fuss.

  • @crowedhunter Yeah.. no I'm going to heavily disagree with you, there. If you legitimately think that the 86% on rotten tomatoes from critics was somehow bought, nevermind the 96% overall audience score, I don't know what to tell you, other than you're wrong. Also not even to mention over 100k positive reviews on IMDB.

The entire show was co-created by Oda, and every decision for the show was either approved or denied by Oda himself - if there was something he explicitly did not want, they didn't do it plain and simple. I don't know where you got the idea that Garp didn't show up until the 1000 episode mark in the anime, lol - he showed up towards the end of Water 7/Enies Lobby which was around the late 300's mark. Garp/Helmeppo/Koby's training arc/cover story was explicitly noted by Oda as something he wanted to do earlier on in the anime/manga in order to create power parallels between Koby and Luffy - to show their growth.

Look, it's fine if you personally didn't like the live action, it's not for everyone. But what you said is just flat out wrong, and ill-informed. I'd even venture to say that you're just arguing in bad faith, and trying to rage-bait, which hey, you got me. But be real at least. If millions of One Piece fans have enjoyed the live action, even as a supplementary medium, that's something that shouldn't be ignored. Nevermind the fact that it was in the top 10 shows in 93 countries in the first two weeks, and it got renewed for Season 2 in such a short time. Fact of the matter is that One Piece fans loved the live action by and in large (even with some of it's flaws), and it became the most successful live action adaptation in history.

But I guess because I enjoyed the live action, I'm not a real One Piece fan, right?

  • @jackyjeans Yeah, I've seen a few of those in comment threads about OPLA lol. They think that Oda being involved in the LA somehow takes away from him drawing the manga, and get all flustered because of it. I saw one that even tried to claim that Oda working on the LA was bad for his health, yet in previous comments he wanted Oda to work HARDER on the manga.
