going on the defense/treasure hoarding route takes a very long time, and is a little janky (something I think we can all agree on), but like what if instead of the wonky multiplier where you have to wait 30 minutes between invasion, there was a way you could treat the hourglass like an emissary flag? It sounds complicated, but essentially its the same system that is already in place, but encourages PvEvP like the good ol' days (insert hate comment about how i should stay out of PvP mode if that's what I want)! I think that you should be able to actually just add value to your hourglass, and if nobody invades you for 2 hours, then good for you, its free reputation, something you get just for risking your boxes of shiny things.
THIS IS KIND OF ALREADY A MECHANIC
Now I hear you saying "passive rep? that's stupid, why should you be awarded minimal reputation for just risking treasure?" well you can already get passive rep by AFKing in dive mode, you immediately sail out of bounds and get that sweet sweet loser's rep. In some cases its actually a little more efficient to lose multiple times than fight 1 battle out to the end (I understand multipliers and such so don't come after me with your accounting degree, I'm just saying that a LOT of players do this, at least 60% of the ones I run up against).
THE ACTUAL SUGGESTION:
- Loser's reputation should get taken away to prevent people from diving AFK (It's fine for up to level 5 or so, but come on guys, that's not something we need to encourage)
- Hourglasses now work as a sort emissary flag that can be ranked up via battles, or just amassing hordes of loot on your ship. Basically when you turn in loot of either Athena or Reaper's faction, you get a very small amount of reputation, this keeps that risk reward mindset for both the hardcore win-streak-divers, and the defenders that would like to at least have something to show for waiting 45 minutes before being invaded.
BEFORE YOU COMMENT
I understand that people asking for changes to the game is a touchy subject, and I don't expect this to be changed, I just know that PvP is something most players get very frustrated with, and the battle between Flameheart and the Pirate Lord could be so much more than just "sink mor boat get mor curse". In the same way as the Merrik Vs Reapers event happened, why can't you get flameheart reputation for kegging outposts or any nefarious stuff flameheart would be trying to do? To me, hourglass just seems like a little bit too much of a standalone game mode than actual factions we can call ourselves part of and such.
Not everybody is even that good at sailing, combat or PvE. Everyone has their own specialties and I would like to see that highlighted a little bit more in the factions. (I am also an Unreal Engine dev, so hey... Rare... if you are reading this... Job? lol
hope you all have a nice day!
that's really all I had to say
