Pvp faction suggestion to fix the faction treasure and stop AFK farming. (lets keep the comments chill if possible)P

  • going on the defense/treasure hoarding route takes a very long time, and is a little janky (something I think we can all agree on), but like what if instead of the wonky multiplier where you have to wait 30 minutes between invasion, there was a way you could treat the hourglass like an emissary flag? It sounds complicated, but essentially its the same system that is already in place, but encourages PvEvP like the good ol' days (insert hate comment about how i should stay out of PvP mode if that's what I want)! I think that you should be able to actually just add value to your hourglass, and if nobody invades you for 2 hours, then good for you, its free reputation, something you get just for risking your boxes of shiny things.

THIS IS KIND OF ALREADY A MECHANIC
Now I hear you saying "passive rep? that's stupid, why should you be awarded minimal reputation for just risking treasure?" well you can already get passive rep by AFKing in dive mode, you immediately sail out of bounds and get that sweet sweet loser's rep. In some cases its actually a little more efficient to lose multiple times than fight 1 battle out to the end (I understand multipliers and such so don't come after me with your accounting degree, I'm just saying that a LOT of players do this, at least 60% of the ones I run up against).

    THE ACTUAL SUGGESTION:

    • Loser's reputation should get taken away to prevent people from diving AFK (It's fine for up to level 5 or so, but come on guys, that's not something we need to encourage)
    • Hourglasses now work as a sort emissary flag that can be ranked up via battles, or just amassing hordes of loot on your ship. Basically when you turn in loot of either Athena or Reaper's faction, you get a very small amount of reputation, this keeps that risk reward mindset for both the hardcore win-streak-divers, and the defenders that would like to at least have something to show for waiting 45 minutes before being invaded.

    BEFORE YOU COMMENT
I understand that people asking for changes to the game is a touchy subject, and I don't expect this to be changed, I just know that PvP is something most players get very frustrated with, and the battle between Flameheart and the Pirate Lord could be so much more than just "sink mor boat get mor curse". In the same way as the Merrik Vs Reapers event happened, why can't you get flameheart reputation for kegging outposts or any nefarious stuff flameheart would be trying to do? To me, hourglass just seems like a little bit too much of a standalone game mode than actual factions we can call ourselves part of and such.

Not everybody is even that good at sailing, combat or PvE. Everyone has their own specialties and I would like to see that highlighted a little bit more in the factions. (I am also an Unreal Engine dev, so hey... Rare... if you are reading this... Job? lol
hope you all have a nice day!

that's really all I had to say

It would be nice to get loser points for defending and getting sunk at least...I'm sure the invader would prefer to get the loot and emissary flag I spent time gathering up for them instead of an afk no loot, minimal (if any) supplies fight

  • Defending should have a multiplier applied to your experience when you sink based on your faction grade rather than just having the default loser XP. That would probably make it worthwhile doing. Maybe not as much as winning, but definitely more than losing with no treasure gives.

Removing loser XP is a big no from me. For one, it would encourage a lot of players to reset over and over rather than risk it and lose and get nothing. The issue with runners trying to get you to quit is smallish and doesn't need encouraging. It would likely also hasten the death of this mode since players could participate and repeatedly get nothing because they are either bad or getting matched with others way outside their MMR.

  • Strong No on both counts.

Paying Allegiance for not fighting is bad. There is already a loot bonus that is enough. But worse the hourglass queue has a flaw and making defending pay for not fighting would make it worse. It would in fact almost insure there are no fights because defenders cannot be matched to defenders due to location.

Taking away loser reputation would pretty much end participation except for Sweat Legends.

  • Loser's reputation should get taken away

Alright...alright. It all sounds good until YOU are on the losing end.
Not the Afk fighters but the ones who can not fight.

  • The real trouble is that there is no risk/reward for defending faction treasury. If you win, you get extra rep; yay! If you lose, you change servers and get virtually nothing. On top of that, if you lose, chances are the crew that invaded you leaves your treasure in the water and just dives again because they don't care about your loot.

The real way to get people to defend faction treasury is to make turning in treasure give you allegiance—a.k.a. an increased risk for an increased reward. It would encourage the divers to pick up loot, and other pirates to collect it. But as you pointed out, that is adventure mode. So I agree wtih @Foambreaker: hourglass is a PVP game mode and should reward PVP, rewarding PVE activities via turning in loot turns the "War for the Sea of Thieves" factions into just two more trading companies. Yawn.

Frankly, the whole faction treasury mechanic is a big joke. It's not worth doing because it doesn't reward enough, and submariner enthusiasts (dive dive dive!) don't pick it up after they sink you. The only way to make it worth doing is to make the faction treasury multiplier apply to losses as well. That way players are rewarded adequately for a loss after spending 30+ minutes collecting loot.

  • I think we can all agree it would be nice if Rare revisited HG and added some features or made some tweaks to current fonctionality.

HG feels completely abandoned since about February

  • @sico-drawesome go play pvp!

  • Like adding a similar "sink x many SAME faction ships" or same faction flags etc commendation too

Also; Thats not entirely true as to no risk vs reward.

Defenders spend more time gathering their faction loot, so risk more time investiture, and the payoff is a SMALL rep boost on a win, and the fact a savvy defender can pick his battleground.

Defensing near a cleared sea fort, knowing exactly where the invading ship wil spawn, seeding the area with kegs; etc

  • @burnbacon I totally agree! I am not exactly a savvy PvP-er myself, which is why I proposed being able to gather loot for hourglass reputation instead of just getting that little bit of losers XP. It's nice as a consolation prize, but I'm sure there are better methods for rare to incentivize players to play PvP than loss farming. Appreciate your opinion and ability to keep it civil, have fun out there on the seas friend!

  • @foambreaker Hey friend! it seems you misunderstood what I was saying, my overarching thought was that there should be a bit more nuance to the factions than just sinking more ships, and my main argument was that defending players have to wait long amounts of time and risk a lot more than diving players, so you should be able to use an hourglass to get reputation for turning in treasure. I appreciate you taking the time to give your opinions on my thoughts!

  • @d3adst1ck Hmmmm, I see what you are saying with the running, that could be a potential problem, I haven't seen any people using that strategy yet though, but I'm sure a few would do it for sure. I can't say that it would be a particularly effective strategy given that your cost efficiency would eventually take a turn for the worse.

  • @pithyrumble That's a good idea! Appreciate the thougt!

  • @lordqulex Really good thought on that last part about multiplier for loser's rep! I agree with that thought in the middle, it's kind of what I was saying that you could do typical sea of thieves shenanigans while also putting your ship at risk of invasion, and you risk all that sweet loot for extra hourglass reputation that you get by turning the loot in! Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts!

PvP Reputation for Treasure = PvP rewards for PvE

It's that simple. The rest is justifications and spin.

And I am a no one that.

Don't want to wait, then dive.
