distribution of reward

  • I'd like to make a suggestion that might address a problem that currently exists in Sea of Thieves.
To start with the conclusion, gold, the reward for treasure, is distributed in a certain ratio to the first acquirer and the last seller.
For example, 50-30% to the first picker and 50-70% to the selling crew.
This is debatable, but the benefits I think are:

    1. If there are people who only want PVE and you can't make it, at least the reward for the time you put in for the defeated (sunk) people should be non-zero so they won't quit the game. I don't think there's any reason why you should get zero results for your time invested just because your fighting skills are bad.
Other games also give experience points or a certain amount of gold so that if the player loses, they don't feel like they've wasted their time. In the case of Sea of Thieves, there is no level up and only cosmetics, but since most of the achievements and gold required for this are made from 'sale', it is meaningless if you can't sell it no matter how many hours you spend.

    2. It's a minimal protection for normal sailors from trolls dropping treasure from ships or killing themselves with gunpowder kegs to destroy envoy flags. Even if you are trolled, it reduces frustration by giving you some compensation for the loss. Conversely, even if you are brigged right before selling for no reason, you can throw away your regrets because you got a certain percentage of money after touching the treasure.

    3. The same goes for open crew. I want to sell it, but there are many times when the rest of the crew did not agree and I couldn't sell it, and it was sunk. Disagreements are unavoidable, but for the few sailors who want to be safe, the damage is devastating.

    4. Above all, I think it is beneficial for the whole game to give the weak a driving force to continue sailing rather than a winner-takes-all system. I know that there are more crews who diligently complete voyages and events and then steal than crews who eventually steal and sell, so it seems like a necessary part to keep the game fun for everyone.
It would be nice to be able to be comforted even if you sink without losing the game's identity, plunder. And since the amount of rewards is constant, you don't have to worry about inflation.

This was my thought after playing for about a year. I still love this game so much. Thank you!

  • This is wholeheartedly against all what piracy stands for. But im not gonna enter myself in an argument, im just gonna quote our dearest Captain Jack Sparrow, in a phrase that sums up pretty well what this game is about. "Take what you can, give nothing back.*

  • Gold only has a use for a preciously short amount of time in this game, afterwards it sinply piles up with nothing really worthwhile to spend it on.
Enjoy the feeling of loss and accomplishnent from treasure while it lasts!

  • No loot is yours, until you turn it it.

Half of the value of the loot, is in the risk of loosing it.

Lets not devalue the loot, instead fight for it. Be more pirate! Yarr!

  • @cptsagasta saying things are against piracy. is that why they allowing so much cheating in their game? by definitiion piracy is itself is cheating so using cheats is just being doubly piratey?

    From the pirate code

Article 7 - Those Who Cheat Shall Be Punished
Pirates who show bad form and cheat their crew or others shall surely face bitter hardships and punishments.

If you think you've come across cheaters: record & report.

  • @diamondgrail No this is a terrible idea. Sea of thieves is a pvpve game where the winner gets it all. You get seasonal renown for touching treasure etc and unlock new rewards that way every season. You get full rewards in the brig btw.

If you can't sell it, you don't deserve it.

  • If everyone thinks that way, maybe that's right.
I am a person who understands both sides because I have seen a lot stolen and taken away a lot.
But what I meant was that only the first crew member who legitimately completed the event or voyage would get less than half the value, not that everyone who looted or picked up by chance after that would get 50%, so that isn't seem piracy.
Since it takes longer to complete the quest to obtain the item than to sell it after obtaining it, I don't even think that getting half of it is unearned income.

I think the fact that it is possible to sell stolen goods is enough for a pirate's identity. Because in no other game can you steal someone else's effort so easily. I wasn't against it, it was meant to protect the newbie, the underdog. I don't think there's a crew that won't sell just because they get half of it just by touching it. Trying to sell all the way for 100% compensation will be the same. Also, even now, there is already a system that earns 50% of the unearned income from the alliance flag alone, but it is a bit unfair to dismiss it as piracy...
Still, thank you for writing a comment, and I hope you understand my intentions a little bit. :D No bad intentions!

  • distribution of reward에서 @captain-coel 님이 말했습니다:

I understand the rest, but this part needs some explanation.
What I said is not simply being in jail when selling treasure. Of course I know I can be compensated if crew mate sell.
But people with bad intentions don't sell, no matter how long it takes before I get out after I put them in jail. Then they meet another ship and sink (there is a very high probability of sinking as one is in prison), and they are no different from trolls. Telling me to get out if I feel frustrated there means to throw away my time and surrender.
It may be fun when the game works as intended, but no one will enjoy it when my reward is discarded by someone else's will, even they are in same crew.

  • @diamondgrail fair enough. in that case, catch them on comms or text. record and report. That would be griefing.

  • I think the idea as presented kind of goes against what the game is about.

However, I feel like there's an alternate solution that would satisfy what you aim to accomplish AND make the game feel more piratey than it does today! Arrgh!!!

    Here goes...

The game could use WAY more little gold pouches and gold piles than it has today!

Imagine this... you're doing your gold hoarder voyage and you've got several X marks the spot locations to dig up...some of them would be treasure chests, some of them would be gold piles! And they could even count towards raising your Emissary level and give you the Emissary bonus there on the spot!

    GH Voyages:
-Gold piles as an option for all digs
-Gold piles in all Collector's chests

    OOS Voyages:
-Gold Pouches drop alongside all Captains and RNG drops alongside all of his crew
-Gold Pouches amongst the loot drops for the Ghost Fleet Voyages

    MA Voyages:
-Gold Piles and pouches scattered throughout lost shipment wreckages

This could even be expanded to world events and emergent threats like Megs, skeleton ships, and krakens
