Gifting Emporium items?

  • I would love it if Rare implemented a gifting system for the pirate emporium. Just have a button next to the purchase button that says, "gift to a friend", and then it brings up a list of your friends who have an account active with SoT, and you can pay for the item with your own Ancient Coins, and the friend that you chose, gets the item.

My girl isn't as well off as I am, and she can't buy anything for games like that, and she's obsessed with anything galaxy related, so I wanted to buy her the lodestar ship pack, but I didn't know that gifting wasn't an option, and I bought the ancient coins myself, and now I can't gift it to her.

I think Rare could only stand to benefit from this. I personally would definitely spend more money in the emporium if I could gift things to friends.

    Am I the only one?

  • Definitely not the only one. I’d love to be able to gift through the coins I have instead of through the Microsoft/Xbox store as it is very limited. Currently I have to buy one of the bundles in the Microsoft/Xbox store and send it as a gift. I can’t gift ancient coins from the store either, only bundles. That’s not so bad if what I want to gift is the new cosmetic set for that month as that’s what is in the store as a bundle. But like you, if I want to gift an old set there is no more bundle and ancient coins is the only way to get it.

  • You can do it via the Microsoft store, that would be your best bet.

  • Would be a neat feature. In the meantime if you're on PC you can use the Microsoft store or Steam to gift money into your gf's wallet. She can then use that to buy the ancient coins.

  • Buy Microsoft gift cards.

  • I doubt Rare would want to have all the free Ancient Coins from Seasons ( and Ancient Skellies ) on alt accounts flow into the main account of a pirate.

  • @lem0n-curry I don't think OP meant gift Ancient coins from own inventory, but instead be able to purchase something for another pirate. So it would be a brand new transaction, directly through Rare instead of going about buying Xbox gift cards. This makes sense if you wanna gift something that is halfway between ancient coins purchase options.

That could work, I guess. Not exactly what OP wanted though:

and you can pay for the item with your own Ancient Coins,

so I wanted to buy her the lodestar ship pack, but I didn't know that gifting wasn't an option, and I bought the ancient coins myself,

Also, that would mean they would need to skip the AC and pay for items directly with real money and you would need to be able to see what the other player has bought already - don't want to have people buy a set that's already owned by the person on the other side of the transaction.

  • I like the idea of gifting items in games in general. More things should implement it. Rare seems like the type of company that mirrors that model. Good suggestion!

I honestly want this feature now. I could ask my friends if they count buy be things and I can get them a Chest of Legends in return. It's perfect!

  • Makes obligatory doomsday warnings post about scammers and bullies using this feature...

    Great idea & intent. I'm a fan

  • I was just thinking that this feature was already in-game. I was searching the pirate emporium trying to find out how to buy a dagger skin for my friend. Guess I gotta wait until this gets more popular.

  • Aye, that would be nice.
