A friendly Island without PVP where you can share experiences with the community, like playing card games betting loot, playing pirate pool, bowling, darts and other funny things. It could be a fresh update to socialize and share funny moments between players.
Friendly Pirate Island without PVP
@alltugboat91297 all pirate islands are friendly as long as the pirates playing the games choose to stay that way. It’s all about choice, not being pigeon holed into not wanting to betray the friendliness, that’s what makes this game. You should always be suspicious of the pirates that approach you.
@zig-zag-ltu said in Friendly Pirate Island without PVP:
@tesiccl No, he is talking about a new area with PVP disabled, so you could do those mentioned activities without worrying about toxic behavior which usually has no consequences.
You could still have toxic behavior, PvP disabled doesn't change personalities and PvP in and of itself is not toxic, except to whinners.
This is sort of what I want new golden sands to be, but it would only work if you can't turn in treasure there. There is no safe haven for treasure.
NPC guards that attack instigators may "encourage" peace, but no NPC that is skeleton/phantom difficulty level would really dissuade a motivated pirate.
I do really want cards and liar's dice and singing and dancing a Port Merrick though... looking forward to what they're doing there.
@foambreaker Well technically yes, but at the same time you could just switch off comms and play a dice game against Healing Naveeds

So we don't need a safe area to deal with toxic behavior because it has nothing to do with PvP.
@foambreaker I think you guys are emphasizing completely wrong points of what OP wrote.
OP wants an area, like the Sea dogs tavern (Arena days) where PVP was disabled, but you could play music or chill in Jacuzzi with other pirates.
He is requesting for such an area so pirates could have a quick session of a game of cards/dice or similar. I really support this idea as well, I think it would be great. Perhaps this area would be limited for solo players only, so not do disrupt the balance and number of ships on the seas.PVP safe haven is only a necessary part for this to work. Have you ever played Red Dead 2 - poker? Have you tried it online? Imagine what would happen if you bet a lot of $ and your hand comes out as 2 and 7 and pvp is enabled. bang bang! So in RDO where everyone kind of shoots everyone on sight (just like SoT) the PVP disabled poker game fitted really well and was a great way to pass the time.
@zig-zag-ltu "Imagine what would happen if you bet a lot of $ and your hand comes out as 2 and 7 and pvp is enabled. bang bang!"
As it should, because you know, we are pie rats :)
Clearly anyone with a better roll, cheated and should be shot!
@foambreaker Is it really tho?
Please tell me one game where this would work?
Also in real life, this would be bad for business, so after pirates have massacred the entire bar, the next owner takes away everyone's guns and puts armed men around to keep piece. Go be bloodthirsty barbarian in your own bar!
Also you never played the RDO. Not that I played it a lot, but was using it as an example.
P.S. Wouldn't some pirate gambling be fun? Betting the millions you earned for hopes of winning more? Loosing it all and then having that extra motivation to get back to the seas to earn more and do it all over again xD
@zig-zag-ltu "Please tell me one game where this would work?"
EVE Online
Black DesertPretty much any game with open world PvP.
The problem here is that some players do not accept that logging in constitutes "Consent to PvP" and has a result they take it personally when PvP happens. It is an attitude problem and code can't fix people.
@foambreaker And those games have social activities like card games/dice games or whatever where some betting/gambling would be involved?
How exactly does it work, there sure must be some mechanism preventing others from interfering, or stopping the activity mid game to start a fight?
@foambreaker Are you trolling or just trying to argue here just for the sake of arguing or something?
@d3adst1ck It would not work any other way. As one server of 6 ships would never keep it full. Would be a shared server instance, kind of like the pirate legend hideout.

No, you asked if gambling would work in those games, but since the topic is SoT, I asked if we have that, I didn't think we did. If we don't then why are you making an apples and oranges comparrison?
@foambreaker Prior to that if you have forgotten, I gave an example of Red Dead Online having a feature where you can sit down in a bar and play poker with disabled PVP where it worked great.
To which you replied - something about being pirates and that you are supposed to shoot someone if you loose on a card game?
To which I asked you, how does this makes sense and in which game does this work, where you could have social activities inside a game with PVP enabled?
You replied EVE and Black Desert.
Now you also said that there is no such things in those games.
Perhaps some miscommunication on both parts, but I am still not sure what are you arguing for or against here if your not trolling...

Being able to play cards, or roll dice, which we have, and actually bet gold are two totally different things, it never occurred to me you were suggesting gambling.
@foambreaker Perhaps I should have emphasized it better then, my apologies if I did not come out clear on that one.
But yes, gambling. Betting Gold/Doubloons to participate in some table games would be swell. Restrictions could be applied if they would make it too good, so pirates would not spend ALL of their time there.
P.S. Having such place, would be a great way to make new friends, show off cosmetics.
And having PVP enabled in such zone would not make sense.
The other day was just checking out some cosmetics in PL hideout and some 'streamer' with 10 viewers and his mate started killing me for refusing to subscribe to his channel :D
To your 2nd post.
You can straight out right purchase accounts or go on alliance servers which is basically printing money for being online, since you can't buy items from players you would not be able to do it, and games would be for 4-6 people, so you could not just give away gold to your mates easily either. Idk Rare just needs to check how Rockstar set up their poker tables.
You forgot we have stealing, grog, vomiting, dogs urinating. How is gambling with fake money worse than all that you mentioned plus these? P.S. Did you know that Rare has named a new commendation for acquiring the new skull '' Getting a head'' Or at least someone went out of their way on reddit to make this one up :D
@zig-zag-ltu That could not work for two key reasons:
- It would be a way to trade gold which we can't do
- This is a kid friendly game, yes, I know, murder, stealing, but not gambling
It's just an idea, the game is what It is, never trust a pirate ;), that makes the game funny. The island would be fine if It don't disturb the rythm of the game, I think that Rare will find the way. Only was an idea to have more options and fun, so chill mates it's not about who is right :)
I have to improve my english, sorry about that hahaha...

I understand you, I'm an American, English is my second language ;)
I think a place to gather would be great, but the no PvP part not great and it can work, 5 of us gathered for the holiday lights at New Golden Sands and we mostly didn't shoot each other, mostly...
@burnbacon i tought about that couse its busy place but ghostly thame kinda ruin showoffing with cosmetic.
Buuuut why not open arena tavern? You enter inside (you cant bring loot or enything) and its like in good old arena days.
But your ship, your loot and all other folks are still there outside.
It make it nice place for team up, take a brake or socialize and without eny option to sell / buy stuff it will not impact whole pvpve thame of game.
Of course you can camp oustide of tavern but.. but pressganging was a thing xD
Basically, you are suggesting bringing back the Sea Dog Tavern. Anything Arena related is forever locked. There is the Ferry of the Dammed which I suppose could be expanded upon.
The truth is, Rare isn’t going to spend time developing something like this that’s going to be forgotten shortly after being released. Yes, the Sea Dog Tavern was fun with the cannon and parkour ledges but people were getting board waiting for the matches. People will get board quickly.
It’s a cool idea though
@alltugboat91297
Totally agree. My buddy and I have talked about that. Why not the useless arena location. A Port Royale. Drinking and dancing and winch chasing.@alltugboat91297
I was thinking more about this idea. One possibility is that when your ship is in its waters it cant take any danage. BUT...your loot could be stolen and you could be killed. THAT would be fun!!!As others have posted, we've already had two areas like this (Sea Dogs Tavern & the Ferry), so it's definitely possible!
Having a PVP-disabled area in the open world would be an impossible task, but a closed area (like Sea Dogs and the Ferry) would be feasible.
I've always thought the Pirate Legend Tavern would be perfect for this. It's already separate from the main game world. You can't bring treasure down there, so there wouldn't be much opportunity to exploit it.
Now that the game supports smooth server hopping, it wouldn't be much of a stretch to make the Pirate Legend tavern into a lobby where crews captained by Pirate Legends start out. They could hang out, socialize, and play games with other crews. When the crew is ready to go, they could vote to set sail at the docks.
As we know the engine of the game is capable, why not look to something similar to Fallout76? For those that have not played that game, PVP is activated if you are shot (you take almost no damage) and you respond back with shooting that player. But if you do not shootback, then you can go about your business as you were.
So a Tavern in SOT could be set up so players that just want to chill can pretty much brush off the person shooting them and those that want to act out bar fights over who kept the change for the grog or something can still do so.
