Disable alliances when running hourglass

  • @maximusarael020

"Why did they make it so 3rd party ships could enter the battle? Why did they make it so that Alliances could benefit from the Allegiance gained? You're ignoring that Rare specifically allowed this to happen. "

Or mistakenly did not disallow it.

Its more likely it would have taken way too long to put systems in place, that disallow this kind of behavior, hence the system was left simple:

Sink servant as guardian, get streak and rep.

I am voicing my opinion againts unfair play that directly ruins other players match making.

Alliance servers previously didnt affect other players so no one really cared. Now they are out there ruining the matchmaking system by ganging up and creating an completely unfair match with up to 13x times more players againts you.

If you wish to defend this system and tell me its good for the game go ahead. You will not change my mind about it.

Reward fair play, do not reward unfair play that ruins other peoples match making.

    @dragotech123

You are complaining you cant get something by PvE grinding, when almost all of the rewards in the game are far easier to obtain by PvE grind.

The developers finally give something to the PvP oriented players out there and you are here complaining "me me me, I want it to, I want it with PvE too".

I find that a very selfish attidude, when you could as well give PvP a go and hone your skills in this very core aspect of the game, that has always been a part of it.

Ok, if I said something that sounded rude, I apologize, I don't intend to do that, and I'm sorry because text can be misinterpreted. With that said, I think a big part of the issue was the reward the developers chose to put into the PvP mode. Those are the most requested curses, and because people want it they do things like teaming up with other ships to increase the odds.

Perhaps if they chose another type of reward for the PvP, something that would be more appealing to those who prefer PvP and not so much to the ones who prefer PvE these kind of things wouldn't happen.

And when I finally get into my own PC I try to do this thing to gain allegiance by the way, but the progress is to slow for someone who can't win consistently.

  • @dragotech123 So PvP players should get less cool rewards is what youre saying?

While everything cool in the game so far has been behind PvE content?

Geez, what ever floats your boat. But lets not derail this thread any more with this.

  • @maximusarael020

"The invasions will still happen frequently enough"

Sure, but the cheesers and unfair-players would get 4x less rewards for doing so.

In addition to this, the battle zone could be made red sea to any hourglass-active ships while the battle is on.

This would make it harder for the alliance unfair-players to be there to ruin the fun.

4x less rewards and harder time cheesing it is a good enough compromise in my books.

  • @i-jusa-i That is fine that it is your opinion. I'm just telling you facts about what Rare specifically said and did in regards to 3rd party fighters and Alliance rewards, and explained how even without the shared rewards there would still be an advantage to being in an Alliance even when you couldn't understand how that would work. My point still stands, removing shared Alliance rep won't do anything to curtail the practice, as it is still an advantage.

Your argument for why they currently can share allegiance is "Oh, um, Rare forgot". Saying "Rare always intended for it to be 1 crew vs 1 crew" is empirically wrong. Just wrong. And saying removing the shared Allegiance will solve the issue is also just very wrong if you stop to think about it.

  • @maximusarael020

" regards to 3rd party fighters and Alliance rewards "

Sure thing, I'm also telling you facts about Rare saying its a "Skill based match making system" supposed to give you a fair fight.

" "Rare always intended for it to be 1 crew vs 1 crew" is empirically wrong. "

But they did say its supposed to give you fair fights.

"saying removing the shared Allegiance will solve the issue"

Removing or making cheesing rewards 4 times harder for the people who do this to get rewards easily wont do a thing and wont matter at all and wont reduce the likelyhood if it happening. Sure thing.
If something is very wrong if you stop to think thats it right there

Anyways, you have proven to me youre all for unfair play in a supposedly fair system. I wont be replying back to you any more. You have the right to think unfair play is good for the system, I will not stand for unfair play and ruining others matchmaking by ganging up on a solo slooper with 3 galleons on my side.

  • @i-jusa-i

Unfair play is part of the game. It's a PvPvE sandbox game. If you can't handle that, and the systems that the devs specifically put in place, there's always creative mode in Minecraft.

    Cheers.

  • I wish I was paired against alliances constantly. More cannonballs means my ship can sink faster. So far I haven't encountered a single alliance with this game mode. Granted, I don't play it much because of limited time, but it never happened to me. I wish it happened.

  • @dragotech123 Are you loss farming? If so, I'd suggest just giving up on the mode until it is better suited to you or sinking in the time and effort until you feel like you are good enough so that winning is viable. Loss farmers kind of ruin the mode.

  • @pugawuga216 Yeah, I was loss farming. I know that it can be considered a bit frustrating for some people. But so far, from every encounter I had doing this no one told me that I was ruining the game for them, all I had were confused reactions, laughs, and a brig crew that felt very bad for me. No one told me directly to stop doing it.

But you're right, I should probably just wait until there is a better method. I'm sad that whenever I suggest another method, or increased reputation so I don't have to do this someone else here on the forums tells me that there shouldn't increase that or there shouldn't be another method. I suggested blue doubloons once, but even that got criticized by a few.

I want the curses, but I don't like the method of getting them. It feels long and punishing, and I prefer to lose quickly than try and still lose, because in both cases little xp is rewarded. I'm in the South America servers, and never had any negative encounter, but I yeah, I will stop.

  • @maximusarael020 you may be right people might still defend and sink whomever pops up, but if all the ships are doing this and it’s just the one getting invaded getting the allegiance and it’s not guaranteed that everything ne will be invaded at the same rate or at all. How many ships stick around to continue to help others farm Rep while they get none of their own. Seems it would at least limit this more than we’ve seen. Just a scummy tactic. Just like the people that run for 2 hours hoping other will just leave the fight. Take the loss if you can beat the other crew stop making it miserable for everyone else. Such a pity that people are so petty about a character “skin”

  • And some players used to say "It's a pirate game", "Pirates don't play fair" and things like that. Well, preparing an ambush seems very piratey.

  • The audacity of PvPers rolling up on Tall Tale solo sloops with a fully stocked sweaty double-gunning Galleon crew for 4 years saying "Pirate game! Git gud!" and saying they do it for the love of PvP are suddenly all "What is this?! It's not fair, I say! Not fair! Please Rare fix this game because I'm just so sad that it's not fair now."

    Pathetic

  • @dragotech123

I don’t see a problem with loss farming so long as you try to put up a decent fight. I have rammed a few ships and hopped on an enemy ship in a desperate attempt to fight them off. Even if I kill a few my ship is eventually lost because I can’t repair it.

So long as you fight, people don’t care if you throw the fight.

  • @coffeelight5545 To be honest, I don't even see what's wrong with it at all. People are getting a free win. I raise my sails and let them shoot my ship. Once I had someone challenge me to a sword duel when none of us decided to shoot. They won the sword duel, and then I had to let my ship be shot again. But I never had any negative reaction of me doing this.

I can't believe I'm saying this, you're describing the wrong PvPers here.

Those "git gud" people are so used to rolling up on alliances at world events that this kind of challenge, while not welcome, is second nature to them. Most average PvP Players, like the ones having a complaint about invading alliances, usually turn away from a chance to steal from multiple boats at once at the risk of losing everything and their effort being wasted. This situation is now forcing them into a fight they normally choose not to get into and they don't like it, immensely.

  • @dragotech123 Yeah, fair enough. The problem with loss farming isn't just a couple of people doing it, (like right now), but if it was incentivized further and like every other game someone just threw? I think that would kind-of ruin the gamemode.

Like from personal experience, my last sink to get level 100 in reapers was ruined because it was against a loss farmer. Too much incentive to do that and too many people intentionally losing and the gamemode isn't really fun.

  • @coffeelight5545
    As a "PvP Sweat" myself.
I to feel kinda bad for casuals that aren't good in PVP, because even playing often, level 1000 feels rough, but I can tolerate and don't mind the lengthy grind, but for the casual that want the gold curses? Ooof...

I do think level 100 should be faster.

    on the topic on hand:

    1. RARE stated that they want the excitement of having other ships around that can intervene (Whole reason this season is in adventure and not a separate gamemode like Arena was.)

    2. Yes there will always be scummy community/players finding exploits for this new gamemode which is just blantly unfair being on a sloop against bigger ships that purposely alliance discord together.

    3. I don't think Hourglass ships should be allowed to alliance with other ships, I agree on this point, kinda defeats the purpose? idk.

To conclude I really do not agree with players complaining about the grind in this season for the higher rewards.

There is constant PvE grind commendations, so why not for PvP? Keeps PvP enjoyers busy. We literally tolerated subpar PvP for months on end, and when finally a season dedicated to PvP the other side has to complain, right...

  • @ix-indi-xi a dit dans Disable alliances when running hourglass :

RARE stated that they want the excitement of having other ships around that can intervene (Whole reason this season is in adventure and not a separate gamemode like Arena was.)

I'm pretty sure the main reason is that having this mode be in adventure makes it easier and less costly to maintain than Arena was in the long run.

  • Please avoid engaging in personal arguments and derailing the topic of the thread. It is fine to debate the content of the post, and the viewpoints therein, but disrespecting any of your fellow pirates personally is against the pirate code, and our forum rules.

  • @ix-indi-xi

I can agree with that. The base curses should be easier to attain and the golden variations should stay where they are.

On that note, there isn’t much incentive to get past level 200 in both factions. There needs to be a Glorious Sea Dog style of cosmetics for both Guardians of fortune and Reapers Bones. They should be set at the 500 level or so.

  • I think the best way to do it would be to transport both ships temporarily to an old 'arena' map. Otherwise their allies just 'de ally' and sink you anyway. We certainly need something to stop this rort if we want the new mode to have any population at all, no one queues up to fight a sloop + galleon in a sloop.

  • @dragotech123 Pirates dont use a skill based match making system designed to match the smae ship size and same crew size together either.

This is no longer a 100% sandbox game mode.

  • @nex-stargaze Theres a big differnece between 4 ships waiting for you, ready for a fight with the only goal of sinking you and a normal adventure PvE alliance.

I am completely fine with fighting an alliance in normal adventure, but not while taking a part in a sbmm system supposed to put me in a fight againts a ship of same size, also reducing the space I can sail to while not reducing the size 3 of their ships can sail to...

  • @i-jusa-i hopefully the new update that’s allows same faction fights to occur and to add streaks will “fix” this issue. If not I’ll provide the fix. I’ll gladly joint the alliance and then commence to sinking all of them every single time I find this occurring. As to the alliance’s in adventure, I LOVE hopping into an alliance server and creating havoc, however I also am aware of the odds and stock and prepare accordingly. When I am solo slooping in S8 and get put into a battle against 4 ships I lose all ability to strategize accordingly and just get to hope Rare moments allow the win.

Another option would be to make the battle area and ships within that immediate circle a ThunderDome, many ships enter 1 ship leaves. Again hopefully the new update in 2023 fixes some of the alliance cheesing.

  • I'm a bit confused—are alliances the issue?

If I'm running reaper HG and see another reaper on the map, I sail over and say "hey, let's wait for one of us to get invaded!" we chit chat and share a grog then boom, time for battle. We both get some cannon hits on the invader and they sink.

Here's my question: do we both get allegiance and streak because we're in an alliance, or do we both get it because we both helped sink the ship? Can anyone here who has successfully third partied without an alliance tell us what happened? I know Rare liked the idea of the third party so it may have nothing to do with the alliance...

On another note, once intra-alliance matchmaking is enabled will this still work the same way? I know we can't answer that last question now but it will be interesting to see what they patch.
