Ability to change a normal ship to a captained one.

  • Problem:
When the captain of the ship gets kicked out of/leaves the game the ship loses it's captained status.
    Solution:
In a shipwright we can ask to pull out our ship and it would give us a list of the ships that match the type of ship we're currently on.

  • I only seeing this workable IF when you watch to do this. It sinks your current ship and spawns a new one somewhere else.
So your loot, resources all have to be stored and saved on a dock.

I would love a mutiny option alongside putting someone in the brig. Mutiny > Vote for new captain. Love it, you could kick out the captain for a different one.

Don't know how it's set so that a captain ship loses it's status and becomes a normal ship but I'm assuming that it's made by removing a reference to that ship. Code wise should be as simple as add the new ship reference and then refresh all the ship cosmetics and add the logbook+shipname.

The method for summoning the ship could even be like in the quests where you talk with the shipwright and the ship deed appears for everyone to vote on it or even the Sovereigns instead of shipwright, the only thing they do right now is take your loot and most of them have a nice quest like table next to them as far as I can recall.

I don’t agree with that but if that’s the price for bringing a captain ship into service then I support the sinking of a ship to make space for a captain ship

  • The only way I would support this is through a server migration.

Keep your supplies. Get a new server on a Captained ship.

  • Captaincy has ruined the game in many ways for me and this is just one of them. The fact that if you get disconnected for whatever reason and might not be able to rejoin so you need a reinvite and now your captaincy status is lost ruining your entire session. If playing with friends and wanting to jump around between ships and help them out but they aren't captains and you cant become captain.

I am sure its just another issue people would consider minor and not that big a deal but it's literally ruined how I play the game and I have to rethink my approach to everything all the time. It's bad enough captaincy ignored previous stats but now If I am not on my ship I am not even gonna play. I almost feel like captaincy is a personal title we should have had and ship milestones shouldn't have ever existed at all. I think the issue might be as a captain our ships are like a 2nd character so when we set sail on them its loading all those ships stats. So our ship is like an extra crew mate and being able to just add it in session would cause some kind of issues.

The whole system is just weird to me. I get the concept behind it, them thinking people would want to have their ships be thematic but for me I just want 1 ship with all my stats I am not going to make a specific themed ship. I have seen that some people do themes but the option to just save multiple load outs at the cosmetic chest would have made more sense than being able to buy multiple ships of the same type. Also were captains but only if the ship has a captain. So if you're playing on a captaincy galleon all 4 of you are captains. Outside of the ship name and the true captain being able to lock the cosmetics everyone is gaining progress for being captain even if they aren't. Meanwhile if you are a captain and on your own ship but it lost captaincy status then you aren't a captain any more. Like we should have been buying a captains license so anyway we choose to play gave us progress not it being so heavily tied to the ship.

Worst part is last time I got disconnected with no rejoin option when I got invited back and we found the captaincy was lost... The game warned me when logging out that I was the ships captain and asked if I was sure I wanted to leave. So the game still remembers I was the captain even though the ship has lost its captaincy status... So basically this ship losing captaincy status when the captain leaves was intentionally done and not part of the original design because the game still remembers who the captain was. Not sure why I'm bothering with this since everyone always disagrees with me on pretty much every point anyway and it's not like Rare will ever change this.

^ This. Otherwise the Alliance servers will be all over this

  • @magus104

Personally, I refuse to play Sea of Thieves unless I’m on a captain ship. I don’t care if someone else is the captain. All I care about is I’m getting progress on my trinkets.

  • @magus104 This just seems....so odd to me. I can't think of a single instance since Captaincy began (outside of some Rare issues) where me or my crewmate got disconnected and didn't get a rejoin option. Like how is that happening to you and your crew as frequently as you portray? Are you getting Lazybearded constantly?

I do think that Rare should find a way to allow for the "Captaincy" status to be reinstated if the original Captain rejoins the crew. That would at least solve you and your crew's odd problem.
