Ship of the Line

  • With all of the Man-of-War suggestion, I am confident that that will be added to the game. Galleon could have 4-5 people, Man-of-War could have 6-7 people. I suppose another ship called the ship of the line that has 8-9 people. If you don't know what a ship of the line is, look it up. It could have 8 cannons; 2 decks of 4 maybe? 4 stories and a captain's quarters. 4 sails. This will be epic.

  • Rare has already expressed they arnt adding the ability to have crews over 4 players in the past for balancing purposes, and i would agree that more than 4 would be a bad idea.

  • And i am very confident it will never be added to the game because it would unbalance the game in many ways. I am not going to state them here because this is a tread that keeps coming back and you can easily find the answers by looking at them.

  • Not going to happen.

  • am confident that that will be added to the game.

As a boss ship. Not player ship.

  • Imagine the open crews. (shudder)

  • Why is it, in every game I play, it always the people making suggestions that are blatantly broken, or don't fit in any way, shape, or form saying 'I'm confident my [idea that will never fit] will be added!'
I can never tell if they are trolling, or seriously think they came up with some golden idea, while ignoring every flaw said idea has.

  • Ok ship of the line has 9 players, the remaining server slots 2 sloops and a brig (16 total players). Sounds reasonable. :D

Nah, the matchmaking tries to max out ship count first so if you tried to use this ship you'd never get placed into a server because it would be impossible to fill the remaining ship slots. Endless Searching the Seas :)

  • Would be a cool challenge for a special mode but won't happen.

For example a ship of the line had 2 capstans. So imagine not being able to raise the anchor without 2 people minimum and even then you're moving it at the speed of 1 person on a galley anchor.
And then upper sails that have to be controlled separately from lower sails via platforms halfway up the mast.

  • I want this to happen because it would be chaotic.

Ok, "balance", whatever, whatever, but hear me out....what if we make it a dark souls boss? Just a really hard ship to defeat. Lots of health, lots of strength, basically a juggernaut. Make it an endgame voyage, whatever. Give em some good loot too. Like an arm canon or a Chest of war or Dark Skulls.

  • @d3adst1ck Yeah I forgot about the current match-making, makes sense. I was talking hypothetically, of course.

As an AI controlled ship it would be possible and cool...maybe we will get that...but never ever as a player controllable ship...

  • I'm ok with more different ship types/models but nothing like this.. anything new ship related should stick to the current crew set up.

The OP has not posted much, and I imagine they play at least once or twice a week normally. They won't be nuanced with the general opinion of the community because they were not that closely a part of it. The idea of a ship with more people than 4 on it is to accommodate people that have extremely large friend groups paying $1-$40 each jumping into this game with the idea that this game is a hangout game, where fooling around and shenanigans leads to the best of fun memories based on how the game is advertised. The more people willing to safely goof around with each other the better in their eyes.

They aren't going to think about how other solo/duo/trio crews will fare to the sizes of these crews because they don't play alone or in smaller crews. They'll always go max size because they want to play with all their friends, and the current method to manage that is unreliable and already gives several community members an uneasy feeling. To touch on the marketing again, when users watch trailers where several pirates, especially more than 4, are seen dancing and goofing around all at once, they think: "I do this with my whole friend group and the game will be perfect for it!" Unaware that in normal play this is only achievable with random strangers who won't do as you say at all times, or through methods looked down upon (not like they would know).
