Can we have a option of transferring Captaincy to another crewmate.

  • hey there,
I was thinking of this from a long time after suffering a lot. This should be an option as sometimes

    1. Captain have to leave the ship.
    2. Captain is going to take a break for some time and join again later.
    3. Captain is disconnected. (Should be an option that if disconnect transfer captaincy to this player)

You can only transfer only to captain player who own that ship type too can be done.

What you guys think? Add something more?

  • @gorebelxyt Ahoy matey!

Love the idea... I have been in the same situation myself a lot of times!

I can see it will take a bit of time to work out as in what would happen with the markings on the boat, trinkets, customizations... It would be handy, but can see it could be tricky to implement.

But love the idea if it can be done!

  • @musicmee There have been a few posts for this on the forums and I can see this being setup via docking at the next outpost to vote on the new captain (or vote on the captain table first when in range like we do with emissary flags) so that they can load in the set they are using via the restore option when looking at the shipwright chest for what is saved.

From there they can have the option to stay in the same sever session, get auto merged if required or just have them portal hop if they want to save the supplies on the ship.

  • “Vote to scuttle and promote captain x” seems like it could be an easy way to “transform” the ship into the new captain’s ship with their trinkets and such. They already have it in place that once a captain leaves and the ship sinks, it comes back as a normal ship with whatever livery was set. So this would just bring in the new ship instead of a normal one.

  • I understand the frustration when the Captain leaves the crew the rest of the crew has no longer the possibility of gaining process in the milestones.

But I think adding this kind of feature would lead also to switching ships just because someone needs some milestones; if so, Rare should remove the ship milestones, as they'll be no longer any resemblance of what a ship and her crew did.

I like the fact that you can spot the same ship you encountered earlier over a longer distance and don't have to rely on your memory of their sails for instance. I (or we) still play this game on the server we start with (unless some very unfriendly situation happens) and kinda try to read the other crews.

Oh, it's the Brig Lebowski, they were friendly earlier, lets not disturb their Veil fort; or, those just kicked our buts, keep clear; or, I guess they're still on a Tall Tale, &c.
When ships can change their identity on every whim, this recognition will disappear and captaincy will just be a set of meaningless milestones and an ever changing name on the crest.

  • @gorebelxyt Yes, I was also thinking that something like this would be great.

  • Good idea, but it could be abused in some way, shape or form. Would need all votes to change captain, rather than the majority.

  • Would be a nice option. I love sailing on open crews, but about 80% of the time the ship isn't captained, so I will make zero progress toward any of the Seasons new commendations when I play.
Similar to how the Ships of Fortune update basically forced everyone to run an emisarry at all times; the Captaincy update really dissuades the use of all non-captained ships, by preventing access to many convenient features and all progress.
In a sense, both of these updates kind of dictate how one should play, lest they greatly hinder themselves x_x

  • Too abuseable for grinding milestones. When it first came out I did wonder what happened when captain left, was tempted to start throwing up lfgs for supply stocked ship if it meant they would be increased

  • For all those shouting this would get abused.. I would like to point to the fact the emissary flags and the voyages are essentially the template system and it is also able to be abused and farmed out, the middle ground in both cases is that it takes effort to do by needing to dock up to do it instead of letting it happen anywhere on open waters via the crew management section of the pause screen and by using a dagger voting system just like with the tables for each emissary.

Shouting ? Who is shouting ?

Perceived abuse / farming of a feature is not a good reason to add possible abuse to other features.

  • @lem0n-curry every part of this game can be abused to farm it out... but again some of it takes effort to setup and do.. I don't get this logic that any new system suggestion is always abusable and should never be tried based on the systems already in place, in the grand scheme as long as its not an implementation of a system in a way that it allows exploitation in a HARMFUL manner to anyone else on the server at the time why care? let others have the option to swap to a new captain and let them apply the new captain ship when it next sinks after a vote at an outpost stop.

I'm not affected in anyway whether this is implemented or not since I do host my own captained ship, its more for the people that join on me if they want to continue on their own one after I leave if they want to stay in the same server session instead of portal hopping with a non captained ship that has supplies saved up or starting from scratch to load in theirs that way, this just lets them do it via in session means and how I would implement the system.

  • This.

I used to like to homescreen quit after switching to open crew so people could have my supplies and a cool ship. Obvs would be changeable once you sail over to a shipwright.

But me and my kid play and sometimes he gets bored before I do and I like the server we're on (Alliances or just chill) so I don't want to leave the session to switch to my captaincy.

Sloop obv goes to the partner. Larger ships is a forced vote, which could lead to other issues.

But the idea should be explofurther
