Save current pirate and switch between others

  • It would be so nice to save a certain pirate and be able to switch to lets say a bigger one today and back to my OG the next day ect. I wanna buy other pirates but I don't want to lose my main pirate because ive done literally EVERYTHING on it im kinda attatched to it

  • I don’t understand why it’s that important to have a different pirate to play as. You don’t even see yourself unless you emote.

  • @vbassay
    I agree
Sometimes in games it fun to just start from the beginning and see what it was like, going all the way to the top, but currently the only way to do that is buying a new account

I think by reaching pirate legenda second pirate should be unlocked, or just have 3 available pirate slots from the beginning.

Also, having another pirate allows you to have different player models, and overall adds more options to the game. Imagine being able to flex 3 fully pirate legend pirates??

  • @hawkeye99 Whys it so important for people to have like more than 1 captained sloop? People like using diff boats and people for diff missions ect. Like a PVP pirate or a chill pirate

  • I don't think it causes harm to implement this idea in some form.

Read a thread recently that stuck with me and removed my indifference on something like this

To some, immersion is one and to others having more options adds to their quality of life.

Hopefully people have the option someday.

  • @vbassay your response is hot garbage. Starting an answer with a question is annoying. Plus the second part kinda implies I think you need more than one sloop. For one thing, I said you can’t even see your pirate and you started talking about ships, something you see the whole time you’re playing. Ships also keep all their own stats. You want separate stats for these different pirate bodies? That opens up a whole new slew of things to discuss.

  • @hawkeye99
    How rude!

    @vBassay
It seems a bit more than usual people have been suggesting this recently. It seems a bit immersion-breaking IMO but many have made valid arguments in support of it.

  • @mr-whaletoes Playing on a different funny looking pirate is less immersion? Oh come on

  • @vbassay
Sea of Thieves is meant to be about your pirate. That's why "delete pirate" removes your progress, and you need an appearance potion to change your look. Having multiple options is a tad strange.

  • @hawkeye99 No, i just want to have different pirates to switch to on my account and keep all my stuff lol The argument of not seeing your pirate is dumb. How many times in a pace vid are they laughing at eachothers pirate or other pirates looks? Its the fact of knowing what I look like. You cant see your armor in halo till you die, yet people grind to get other armors. Your argument for that is also weak lol Its a very simple option to throw in the game. Literally 0 reason NOT to just have it, they will also make more money from it anyway

  • @mr-whaletoes Having to pay to get around that loophole then is also a bit strange no? Just go all the way with it

  • @vbassay
I'm sure the devs would rather keep getting money.

  • @mr-whaletoes Yea theyll make more by doing this lol Id spend like 30 off the rip if they do this idea. Im not spending nothing if its not

  • They cant even get the ship skins to save to the boat yet so maybe this is a bad idea. Prob would just delete my pirate or lose it somehow anyway

  • @vbassay
    You're not everyone.
Personally, I like having changing my character be a big decision.

  • @mr-whaletoes what was rude? I think OP struggles to articulate his thoughts. They just want what they want and it doesn’t need good reasoning. I especially like his “oh come on”to you. Great point making.

  • @hawkeye99 said in Save current pirate and switch between others:

    your response is hot garbage.

  • @mr-whaletoes I maintain that even more so after reading his subsequent posts. He doesn’t advance the conversation or make a new point. This makes for a garbage unnecessary answer. He said your own point back to you with an “oh come on”. That’s also not a valid response. Is it really rude to call it garbage?

  • @vbassay said in Save current pirate and switch between others:

Armor is the clothes in halo. You can change the clothes. You really aren’t making any good points. I think it can be done for this topic. You aren’t going to be the spokesperson though.

  • @crowedhunter saying “I don’t understand” to a two sentence post is an entitled way of asking a question? I thought it was a way to get someone that is asking for big features to be altered in a game to elaborate a bit more. I would argue that if anything in here is “entitled” it’s OPs attitude about this game being exactly what they want it to be. I think it’s a dumb overused term though and would never say that.

  • @hawkeye99 said in Save current pirate and switch between others:

    ...Yes...

  • @crowedhunter said in Save current pirate and switch between others:

@hawkeye99 I didn't give you much to go off on, did I?

This gives me even less 😉

  • @vbassay Rare has already weighed in on this in other past threads.

The idea is that your pirate is supposed to be an extension of yourself. It exemplifies you, your history, your accomplishments, and your experiences. You're supposed to care about that pirate. Having more then 1 ensures that you lose that, as each would become only part of a whole, and have less meaning overall.

    ...Yes...

Alrighty then, I even disagree with my best friends on some things like this so I’m cool with it.

  • ive done literally EVERYTHING on it im kinda attatched to it

Everything you say? Even the future content? All the milestones? Shrouded ghost?

  • While I don't think this is a feature I'd ever use, I don't see harm in having it.

If we had a kills based matchmaking system of some sort, I'd think differently, but it literally doesn't impact anyone to be able to have fresh accounts to test things or start fresh or whatever the reason is.

  • @burnbacon Everything..as in like.. you know.. my commedations that ive done? Who is talking about future content lol Lets compare commedations and see whos done more mr take 30min on an ashen lord. Every post you go on you bring nothing of value. Im sure youre still upset milestones got nerfed

  • @galactic-geek Maybe for some. Id still be super tied to my main pirate vs the others id have.

  • I agree with this idea.

    My reasons are that:
    • Roleplaying, sometimes I want to roleplay as a different character, but I don't want to lose my OG pirate.
    • Try outfits in different body types without losing the OG pirate.
    • Yes, I emote a lot and sit a lot on my boat or the tavern and I like looking at the 3rd person view of it and take screenshots of my pirate
    • You can have multiple ships, but only use one at the time, why not do the same with the pirates?

I don't think saying that the game is about ourselves and we are supposed to be our pirates, because a lot of players play a pirate of different sex or skin tone, also if they really wanted us to be ourselves they would have let us customize the characters with a proper deep customization to recreate ourselves instead of the IPG.

I personally like this idea, I wish I could play as a different pirate without losing my current one. Multiple slots would be amazing, and I think 3 character slots is enough.

I don't feel it is inmersion breaking as that actually depends on the player, but this could be a great addition to the game.

  • Every season we get new miles stones & commendations so you will have something to grind for soon. I would like there to be a few more shrouded ghost-type ones that are very rare. For instance, each world event could have a new loot added to it to e.g. Ashen lords drop a different type of ancient skull of a random color and value, the shrouded skull being the rarest. This would mean world events would get an instant revamp.

  • Fully support your idea, it respects the game's vision and harmless.

Ive always wanted another pirate to make him look like Afro Samurai, and more styles to play with.

  • I support the adding of a second character too, some people want a pirate different from their main one. Ie fat guy and skinny guy, young and old, male and female. It just adds a bit of variety IMO.

I think this would work best like GTA5 Online, when the 2nd character has access to the mains money, but nothing else, it could work like this in SoT too.

  • But wouldn't you kind of regret it in some aspects. That character would basically be a smurf in a game without real matchmaking and horizontal progress.

I might understand people with 2-4K hours in this game, being bored of doing things without little pop ups of leveling up. But wouldn't you feel bad when you would find with your smurf toon a box of wondrous secrets and a shrouded ghost attacks your ship?

I also don't see a point in owning multiple ships.

It would make sense again for people who have 2-4k hours but probably not that many have a maxed out ship just yet.

Another instance where this would be great, if we could pledge alliance to a certain faction permanently or once a season. However, I am not sure if this is necessary.

  • I don't know if its a limitation of the character creator but with all the issues they have with our ships saving I would imagine pirates would be even more of a mess.

I almost feel like the pirate limitation is intention. When Rare brags about "35 million players" for example. This game being on gamepass means people don't have to buy the game. Millions of people have simply played this game as a demo because its "free" so there's no reason not to check it out. As such the sales figures for this game wouldn't look as impressive. So their measure for success of the game is Pirates created AKA "players" since you are limited to 1 pirate per account. This gives them a more impressive metric to brag about 35+ million people have logged into our game at least ONCE... And in a lot of cases only once. There's an alarming number of people who quit without ever leaving the outpost because there wasn't originally a tutorial and figuring out how to even get started in the game was too much for some people. If we could make more than 1 pirate that would mess up their numbers as technically speaking each player is a unique player. Though I know a bunch of people who have multiple accounts via family share so in some cases 1 player might actually be 4 or more but that's besides the point

  • @honeycrisp1

    I agree
Sometimes in games it fun to just start from the beginning and see what it was like, going all the way to the top, but currently the only way to do that is buying a new account

xbox family share. no purchase required.

From a cosmetic & commendation perspective if you had a 2nd character they wouldn't have access to any of your main characters things. I know a few people who stopped enjoying the game when the reputation bars were maxed... Kinda weird that was the only aspect of the game they looked at... Yea commendations don't show progress bars on screen when you sell stuff. But there's loads of bars to fill in commendations you just actually have to open the page. So these people who have deleted their pirates lost all their time limited FOMO cosmetics which this game has an INSANE amount of. There really isn't anything fun or special about having to start from 0 reputation again other than the bars moved much faster early on so you got this illusion of progression. And progression for what? To unlock cosmetics, which if you are starting over you just deleted them all... I mean I guess some people like the hamster wheel games. While Diablo or Path of Exile arent pirate games they are grate if you like you progress being deleted every 4 months.

Also captaincy has invalidated thousands of hours of players past progress so isn't having all these ship milestones enough of a reset to not need to start a whole new character as well?
