Shrouded Ghost is a Unicorn

  • A lot of the posts on the Shrouded Ghost seem to be years old. I'm curious to know if there's anyone else out there in the same 'sloop' as me having never even seen this Mythical beast.
I've been a Pirate Legend since 2018 (I think). It's been so long. Hunted all other Megs almost to the point of extinction.
PS. If I come across one I'll repost.

  • @lord-mmoll I barely see any Megs these days, but aye I am in the same Sloop as you.

All my friends have encountered, but not me. I’m starting to wonder if I already had spotted her and sailed away mistakenly thinking it was another breed I didn’t need 🤔

  • Never seen it here, either.

  • Gonna be more rare with how spawns are these days

one or two less megs per day or a few less a week doesn't sound like a lot but over years that is a massive hit to the chances

People that hop around a lot and/or don't spend an hour and a half+ time on a server during a session are going to rarely see a meg.

  • Shrouded Ghost is Exceedingly Rare.

There's some Discords that run 'meg fleets' where they basically use Shores of Gold to force Megalodon Spawns. These Servers occasionally record stats on the encounters and published some report of all Megalodons they've encountered and they've averaged Shrouded Ghost to be over 1/2,000.

So yea, its not that weird you haven't found one.

And yes, It seems since Shrouded Deep they've either silently nerfed the Megalodon Rates or they've been bugged and Rare haven't fixed it yet. I used to find like 3 or so megs per long play session but now I'm lucky to see one every other day of playing. I Play this game all the time and I can count the amount of Megalodons I've seen since Shrouded Deep on my fingers. I'm not the only one experiencing this, everyone else I ask agrees Megalodons have dramatically decreased recently.

  • Saw some one mention defeating it yesterday(? Timezones) clips and all. 2 Brigs fighting... realised the other Brig got Megged....saw it was the Shrouded Ghost and both stopped fighting to take it out.

Best part is that the 3rd party Sloop that wanted to disrupt was too late to land a shot! 😂

At the end of the day it is all RNG....not heavily weighted on the chances of encountering 'The Myth'.

There were competions on the Forums a while back for guessing how many Megs were defeated in a 24hr period and also one for how many Shrouded Ghosts were defeated in a 24 hr period. it was something like 6500 total Megs and about 12 Shrouded Ghosts, if you want real numbers.

I'll edit the post with real numbers when I dig out the posts.

EDIT: Megs Defeated in 24 hrs 6441

    Shrouded Ghosts Defeated 11

Unless they operate with some sort of exploit they figured out they aren't really spawning them because of shores of gold.

The process they would use isn't any different than how organic players see them more. More ships together see more megs, it's really that simple. Each ship can spawn a meg at some point and keeping 5 (sometimes 6) ships together is everyone killing everyone's megs.

Pvpers and pvers have known this for years organically, drawn out fights lead to more pve sightings by everyone sharing their spawns.

A common mistake people make with meg hunting is thinking time coincidence is area benefit.

The reason people think they see more from shores of gold is because it's time consuming and people think it's area and not the time. They do this a lot with ancient skellies.

I've got megs coming back from shores of gold multiple times, but it's not because of area it's because the content is about an hour to an hour and a half and would fit right in with the typical time it takes me to spawn a meg anywhere else with the current algorithm

  • @triheadedmonkey Do you have a link? I’d like to see the clip.

  • @sn0kanon yes, but as it probably goes against the Forum Rules of promoting, I won't share it here.

  • @lord-mmoll so funny story, I only got back into SoT recently and I kinda knew there was types of megs but I assumed it was just the normal and Shadowmaw. Well a week back into playing the game I saw the white Meg while solo slopping and thought oh is this the rare one? And searched on my phone what a shadowmaw was(because I thought it was the rare variant) and saw it wasn’t that so kept sailing… it wasn’t that long ago so it’s plenty fresh in my mind and now that I keep seeing all these “the rarest encounter!” Posts I keep kicking myself more and more. I just keep learning everyday that it was rarer then what I thought it was the day before. It’s torture.

  • @wolfmanbush I think they don't actually do the tall tale, just sail there and back again

  • @triheadedmonkey If this ever happens to me.. Is landing a gunshot enough? or does it need a cannonball hit from my ship?

  • I saw it once in a storm.

I was trying not to sink and it was back when megs were mean and we didn't know how rare the Shrouded one is lol.

  • @sudsierboar5526 I believe any kind of damage dealt would suffice and (as long it is defeated) you would receive credit.

I would get a cannonball shot in current day hunting

In the past it would be enough but I've shot 3 krakens on 3 different servers in the last week that were other people's krakens with guns and did not receive credit.

Of course take the shots you can take how you can take them but I would prioritize at least 1 cannon shot on something so rare.

  • @triheadedmonkey Thanks!

Oh you know it, I'd risk life and limb to get a cannon shot off!

  • @wolfmanbush

I do not think that's correct, you're effectively saying the Meg Spawn from Shores of Gold is a Placebo and it just feels like its guaranteed because you spend ages there.

As i said I can often play on one lobby for like 8 hours and never see a Meg but if i go to Shores of Gold for Half an hour I pretty much always get the Megalodon spawn.

I'd like to see some results, lots of people say lots of things but results hold stories accountable.

I regularly post my results publicly because I think it's helpful for people looking for ways to reach their goals.

If it works there should be some data to at least strongly indicate it being helpful in the hunt.

If people are finding ways to get meg'd in 30 minutes or 40 or 45 minutes consistently in the current hunting environment there should be results to show that consistently. Per individual

If they are getting meg'd consistently from an hour and a half to two hours+ (per individual), that can be done in most areas on the map.

  • I have hunted and killed well over 1k Megs all up since they first introduced them I have yet to get even a single Shrouded to spawn on me.. I even have a figure of it to remind me how bad my rng with it is compared to all the other people that seem to encounter it out of pure chance especially new players and don't kill it since they don't know how important it is.

I have my finger on the replay recording button for the moment I first kill one.. I am not giving up until the day that I do get it, it's really one of the last things keeping me going in this game as I captain my galleon at this time. I will continue to sail from edge to edge, corner to corner all squares of the map until it happens, I have done 8+ hour sessions and if I have to I will do 24-48+ ones when I can't sleep.

  • @th3xr34p3r Now that's dedication. Invite me when you see her bro jkjk, I'm coming for her too

  • I saw one, then a reaper brig pulled up and spawncamped me. That's why I never let anyone go near me.

I'm usually posting in the official and community discord servers LFC channels when starting up the ship, all that folks need to keep in mind is ping since I host on the OCE servers and what the crew whats to focus on at the time.

  • @triheadedmonkey I remember that discussion! Crazy!
