Way to return seasons and adventures back in future

  • Howdy,

I got an idea that there could be kind of "magical time portal from another world" thing at every outpost. Actually a board where you can replay adventures or pay a huge amount of money to return to previous seasonal progress. This could fix issue with adventures not being replayable because world is changing based on them etc. and also if someone misses the season (another game, life, kids, lots of work...) They can come back and actually get the skins if they grind enough to pay f.e 1 000 000 gold and then grind through whole previous season.

  • @mrstepino most season rewards will eventually be brought back. The adventures are not meant to be replayed. They are time limited and if you miss it you miss it.

  • @mrstepino I don't agree, I think it's fair the way it is, it would be unfair to those who have played in the time available.

  • Yea, Seasonal stuff is mostly meant to reappear eventually and having a small subset of truly time limited things in a game (Adventures at this point is how that is getting handled) is also fine by me. Adventures just move the world forward.

Sea of Thieves has backstory from before the game started in the Lore, so really the world moving forward is no different for someone coming in fresh from having to learn the backstory that existed anyways. No player of the game came in knowing the full story ahead of time. Just more being added to it, and you can meet people who can say "they were there and saw it happen" sort of like in real life.

SoT is a game as a service, not a static game that comes out and then just gets paid DLC for expansion - new breed of game and one I find personally refreshing. And something people still need to adjust to it seems.

  • i've always thought plunder pass or any season pass is at its core a manipulative concept. if you've paid for the pass there shouldn't be a time limit on it. going back and getting the free stuff is probably going too far but locking you out of content you have already paid for seems really weird.

  • I always have a hard time understanding why developers spend some much time/money on time limited story content.

  • @unfadingshimmy They are giving a game as a service a story. The goal is to have meaningful stories that are fun to play that leave a mark on the world moving forward. This should help make the game a little less stagnant.

  • @captain-coel Which is nice, until it is over and new players never see it.

  • @unfadingshimmy And? That's not a problem, they missed it. Same as many many other events and stories that have been added to the Seas.

They can read the stories somewhere else.

  • @captain-coel I mean I love gatekeeping as much as the other guy but removing story content from in game seems silly.

Maybe if they add some kind of in game lore books to catch up on the stories.

  • @unfadingshimmy it's not about gatekeeping. It's that the world will not be in the same place when the event/adventure took place. The story will move forward.

You already can not get all of the story in game. There exists lore in the forms of other media like the books. The adventure text is currently available on the website.

  • Maybe like in the Attic of the Taverns ? That would be cool i think lol A Secret Time gate up there this hole time just makes me happy!
