  • I don't see how it can change gameplay for better. We already have ships and rowboats... It's just an addition that is fun but unnecessary.

  • @targasbr this is mainly a joke 😂 but I'm gonna defend the sea turtles regardless!!

I understand your concern but you are mistaken, having sea turtles in the game will bring more life to the oceans and beaches of the seas and allow population over growth to no longer be a problem.. have you seen the amount if seaweed in the waters?? Nasty!

Another thing, since we all know the mermaids are stuck up scruffy looking nerd herders who don't care whether we live or die, we can use turtles to escape being marooned on islands...

  • @avacadobeard244 I'm in favor of adding all sorts of life to the game to give it more immersion, but there are things that don't make any sense when it comes to game mechanics.

  • @targasbr ik I'm joking about this, forgetting about riding the sea turtles for a minute.. have you seen the concept art for manta rays? I totally think there needs to atleast be more marine life in sea of thieves and idc whether it's intractable or just the same as the splash tails and pondies animation..

  • Only if while riding them I could drink a new type of grog called "Legendary Sea Grog"

  • Would be nice to have more ambient sea life such as sea turtles.

Agreed, and make it like Subnautica: you don't get rewarded for killing them, but you can still kill them if you feel the need too (just give them a lot of health)

  • I'm open to more ambient life in the game, or even variants of existing things that don't have it so much (like Sharks, we could have skins for the existing Great Whites and potentially also Tigers and Bulls maybe with just different textures similar to that of the various Chicken, Snakes, and Pigs just using texture variants).

Of course some additional models could be good. Sharks are basically our Snakes for the Seas (interactable and aggressive), so having the Sea version of Chicken and Pigs (interactable but passive) could be a nice parity between Sea and Land move and give us some more models to see out there and expand the "ecosystem" of the game world (and make the underwater part of the world more lively which would be good since that actually constitutes the vast majority of the space in the game world, yet it is always just barren for the most part). So Rays and Turtles could be a nice fit for this honestly.

I see the Sirens as our Sea equivalent of Skeletons (mythical sort of humanoid enemies). I guess we could also wish for an equivalent to Phantoms and Ocean Crawlers now that both of those also spawn on the land (though maybe Ocean Crawlers could be updated to actually be able to function in the Sea as well - just behaving differently there - so that they pose as a bridge between those two parts of the world). Don't have anything specific in mind for an equivalent to Phantoms (assuming we use Crawlers as a bridge).

The various Birds and Bats are a good comparison with the visible Fish in the world - wildlife that isn't interactable but just adds visually to the environment. The Birds and Bats seem to be split across "open areas vs caves" as it pertains to above the Sea, so maybe we could get that distinction under the waves too? You can keep the fish schools as the open area option and maybe use something like Jellies (apparently their actual name is a no-no on the forums???) for in caves or something like that to be the flip side to the above the waves caves?

But that would go a long way to making the world feel a lot more filled and diverse in regards to the things you encounter by just trying to maintain some general level of parity between land and sea.

  • I personally think the Sea would look fantastic with more sea creatures in it! No changes for gameplay but imagine seeing a whale come up for air, or dolphins jumping, or turtles swimming past your boat! It would be so awesome! I'm sure the very clever people at Rare have thought about such things and perhaps it would have implications for performance that would make it difficult to implement but bringing the sea to life would so so cool! I think a perfect addition would be the manta rays/sting rays that we see in the ancient paintings on some islands!
