recently ive had to select another pirate due to a mistake, and in the process, have remembered the thing i hate most about this game. the concept is not a TERRIBLE idea i would say... it just needs a slight improvement and needs atleast SOME love. its frustrating when people who want a particular character go into it and spend soooo much time looking, and people will say that the pirate appearance isnt "for everyone" despite no one ever really wanting it, or people will say "pirate weren't perfect looking, they were scarred or grisly", i wouldn't say a game with ghosts, krakens, flying flaming head skulls, and more, is going for "realism". there should atleast be a gender option, because no matter what type of character you want, serious or silly, you usually know what gender your picking, maybe there should also be skin color, and body type, but it needs change.

I would assuredly be ok with some filters. I understand what the devs were going for, not wanting the seas filled with Greek Gods and Goddesses with people who spend way too much time in a character creator (guilty as charged). However, I agree some simple filters, gender/body type (masculine, feminine, androgynous), and skin color would be pretty simple to implement and still allow for the variety of pirates they are looking for.

I always wonder. What the game would be if they didn’t give the players this option and you were given a random generated pirate by the games choice.
@burnbacon It would be great if you just got a character. Well it would kinda suck for people who like to tuck and get a fat character. Maybe 2 spins of the pirate wheel and that's it.
@lackbarwastaken my pirate is from launch day. 3rd wheel, 3rd pirate to the right. Had my flat faced, missing tooth grin ever since.

What a terrible unthoughtful idea. The game would be the same, just a lot fewer people would play it.
Just because you dont care about what you look like, doesnt mean that everyone else doesnt.

again. not suggesting random, imperfect characters be thrown out the window, just saying at the very least tehre should be a couple filters. i would say 99% of people KNOW what gender theyll want.

Mine too, but took me a bit longer...about half an hour...I searched for one with red-/brownish hair...that time you couldn't change hair colour, so I wanted one with same hair colour as mine
