SoT partners getting arena shipsets.

  • I'm not sure how other people feel about this although I'm not the biggest fan of it.

Apparently Sea of Thieves partners were given the Arena shipsets regardless of what level they were at the time of the announcement. I personally don't care a whole lot about other people getting my cosmetics that much, although I find it kind of annoying that partners get special treatment for something that they didn't do, especially considering how much of the community was up in arms about not getting any notice on the shipset. It feels wrong to give partners something even though they did not work for it.

What are your guy's thoughts on it? I'm curious to know what the community thinks about it.

  • I couldn't care less if Partners got it (I elaborated more in the other thread why).

I also made my opinions known in the thread when they originally announced it. It came across as sour grapes from me because I argued that tying it to level 50 was arbitrary anyway, considering some will have bought levels while others doing it the hard way would miss out (I feel genuinely bad for folks who were level 49 at the cutoff). I really felt like it should have been tied to something more definitive of their commitment, if that's the intention.

But I would never have gotten it, regardless, so it doesn't bother me. I barely touched Arena. Happy enough with what we were gifted.

  • I've heard they also got given the ferryman set. Rare coddles and protects their partners because they make it popular. I mean summit1g saved this game from dying.

  • @cramp pretty sure Rare saved their game from dying.

  • They probably get it because partners get extra stuff like that. They promote the game for free so it doesn’t really bother me ¯_(ツ)_/¯

And you said that you don’t really care that others got the ship set yet you made this post.. that makes me think that you kinda do care.

Almost sounds like a business arrangement where they provide perks in return for promoting the game... huh, funny that

You can find a full list of Partner perks here.

As I said I'm not one to really care about other people having my cosmetics, things like limited time stuff. I'm just not a big fan of the special treatment, as in, it feels like they are getting rewarded for playing/supporting a game mode they didn't play or support.

  • Not something I would have done. Pleasing a few people with something they didn't earn based on their status weakens morale and builds resentment. Pushing cosmetics is significantly different than being handed rewards that are based on effort within the game, not selling the game.

It's their deal though and one they are free to make. If people find that it isn't a decision they want to support they can make those decisions with their time or money.

It's not surprising or egregious enough for me to emotionally invest in it. I'll keep playing.

  • @turkaspy seems like some of the streamers aren’t big on that either. Not sure why they got them if it wasn’t twitch drop related. Hopefully Rare will comment on this but I suspect they won’t. They normally tend to stay quiet about mess ups like this.

I doubt anybody is upset about partners getting perks.

I assume the frustration stems from the fact that these were given out last minute, before they were going to be locked forever, simply because of their status.

Additionally, these aren't Emporium items that could lead to viewers buying them after seeing a streamer with it. So the fact they put in the effort to gift these to their partners instead of spending that time on something more constructive seems suspect.

Also I'd add: why wouldn't all these items just be unlocked for partners by default, as soon as they get partnered? Especially if they're not expected to actually unlock them like other players, it seems like this would just be easiest and prevent potential blowback situations such as this.

  • We'll see what happens after the 72 hr mark. I know there's a bunch of people that did earn it that haven't received the Good Boy but got all the other ones.

As it stands, it's a bad look to the community and puts their partners in an awkward spot having to defend - or oppose in some cases - a decision they had no say in.

I'm just disappointed they haven't commented on it and probably won't.

  • I have a question here for people.

Should partners be given the year one legend set?

Only if they got PL year one

  • Dropping anchor here as it is basically a 'Witch Hunt' against a section of the community.

If there are any questions they can be directed to Support.

    Thanks.
