New fort just more pve?

  • Less loot and it's not indicated to the world that it's active. This is pretty much an above-water shrine. When are we going to get something that incentivizes pvp again?

  • @ssolutionss You realize that by encouraging people to be in 1 spot, that encourages people to be able to find you? Interactions that have choke points encourage pvp

  • Well, we already have shrines, normal forts, fort of fortunes, etc. Its been some time since Ive seen a boat doing a shrine and they are relatively new compared to the others. Just my opinion but this doesn't really incentivize pvp since you can get in and out before others realize you're doing it since there in no world icon in the sky or something like you see with for, fotd, etc.

  • Most people do not pvp for pvp's sake. People fight over treasure. New open world events always boost pvp. Remember the absolute chaos when the fort of fortune dropped.

Although this is true, PvP sparked from those events last only a couple of weeks, and then barely ever again. There needs to be something that doesn't reward spawncamping or farming sinks on a dedicated ship, but still can consistently encourage combat for extended periods of time, not just after it's release.
Perhaps the Arena could show it's face again...

The issue is most people don't run emissaries or hold big loot stacks on active servers, and I don't know how to change that (although it isn't exactly my JOB), but giving EVERYONE a reason to PvP with large amounts of loot or high tier emissaries, not just those who do it for fun.

  • More treasure= more reason to pvp.

  • I think (hope) what OP is talking about is actually rewarding an increased risk of PvP akin to what the old Mercenary Voyages entailed where you had to be flying the Flag of the Reaper's Mark.

Again, this is true, but these sea forts are spread across the sea, with nothing to tell when someone is at them. "Choke points" as they might be, if you're actively looking for someone at them to fight, then you might be wasting a lot of time having to check all the others since there's so many...
Although the whole point of the sea forts aren't exactly to bring PvP, but make short but profitable adventures to players with not much time.

  • PvE is an incentive for PvP yet PvP is the reason people do not PvE…
    HmMmMMMmMmmMmmMmmmm

  • @sweetsandman Yes, the most fun I think I had was the reapers vs the world events where you had to farm emissary flags as reapers or run emissaries for extra rewards. That gave people a reason to get to lvl 5 on their flags while giving reapers something to constantly do. Reapers flag or not Im hopeful that the golden sands outpost could be a tug of war between reapers and athenas somehow. Don't get me wrong this still is my favorite game and I will do this new fort. Just kinda see it getting abandoned soon after its released.

  • It’s both pvp and Pve.

You can be at the fort trying to complete it and a passing ship sees you and decides to also take part.

  • I'm looking forward to the roleplaying and king of the hill aspects - after you complete it, you can stay and defend it! 😅

  • obviously i'll withhold judgement until i actually play it, but the sea forts i expect will be nothing more than a slightly better shrine (which are terrible) a month after launch and will just add more clutter to the world. whilst there new and have commendations/achievements behind them they will be fought over etc but very quickly will become ignored by the majority

Not if you make it worth their while.

Forts sound cool. You don’t need to put them down just because you’re not getting what you want, specifically.

Imagine that you’re Rare and you just spent 6 months building them and some gamer complains like that. It makes you less inclined to listen to their request.

Try another phrasing if you want Rare to listen to you.
    For example:
“Forts sound great but can we please also get some PVP content?”
    Simple change, friend.

Because frankly. I REALLY want more PVP content too. There’s just better ways to get what you want.

yea true but historically the devs haven't balanced things well or introduced new stuff in a way that makes it worthwhile, which is why i think it will be dead after the first month

Me too. Some sort of extra incentive to encourage other ships to attack you might be needed though. We'll see...

I do shrines all the time with my crew, but we never leave the boat there. One of us usually hops off and stacks the loot while the others keep sailing, doing whatever we were in the middle of.

We just swing by later and grab the loot.

All jokes aside......if you want some pvp you could try making a loot pinata out of one of the forts. Make that thing shine bright and see who it attracts.

  • For me, seaforts are a huge pvp assist. They are currently the best places to supply fast, and quick rank up for reaper flags.

There will certainly be some incentive needed. When was the last time you attacked or defended a skeleton fort when it wasn't active?

  • @red0demon0 most people see it as
    More treasure=Run from PvP

  • Cant believe we lost arena for this... The loot and supplies are good at the forts though. But why did they nerf world event spawns for this. If the content was good enough by itself why nerf the other world event spawns....

The closure of Arena and the introduction of the new content are in no way related. Can the theatrics!

  • Yes.
Short, concise burst of focused activity. I like them.

They do not have the isolated safety or the security of the stash mermaid. It's a lot easier to spoil someone's Seafort than Shrine.

  • @dlchief58 Im pretty sure the closed arena to "focus more of the team on adventure mode".

  • @ssolutionss unfortunately for you, the majority of players are against pvp…hence wht rare has been keeping the focus on pve contrnt for over a year now

I typically solo, and can't do that. Though, most days, like today, I usually get away with it.

Wrong on both accounts. The major of pirates favor both PvP and PvE, and is NOT why Rare has been focusing on PvE aspects.

  • having now done a fort nothing has changed my mind. i see forts being dead this time next month. there just going to be yet another piece of clutter in the world for the majority of people. that being said i see the intent behind them, it should have been them instead of shrines.

very disappointed with the content this season i know theres athena stuff to come but i played for 20 minutes and feel like i've already done everything new

  • The stance for the game and how it can be played is a long since established one and has no intention of being changed. That stance is one of an open and shared world experience. Creating PvP centric activities would go against this core concept. The game was designed with the threat of PvE in mind. So please bear that in mind when sailing these seas.

  • I think they are a nice addition to the game. They won't have much use to most after a week though. I hope they get utilized more in the future. As galactic said above, king of the hill would be awesome. Fly your factions flag on the fort, claim it for yourself, be able to stash the key so you can hoard your loot in them and other players can try take it off you and place there flag upon it. Have it as a static emissary fort. There's also 6 forts and when back to normal 6 ships so one for each crew. Its an easy way to get a faction influenced system in there where you gain rewards for a particular faction for claiming the forts or removing a faction.

  • @a10dr750

Exactly what I am thinking. I can see a lot of potential for them in that regard.

Did that yesterday and it was a shocking amount of loot. Stacked all 6 and as a Grade 5 Gold Hoarder it was about 192k in Gold...As a Reaper it would've easily been over 250k in gold.
