I am so tired of going to dig up bait then go to pick it up and dig again only to have shoved a grub in my mouth because instead of it just going in my inventory it ends up in my hand and I was expecting a shovel. I would not eat bait knowingly, it is annoying.

Raw food mixing with food - Once again, nothing is more fun than going to eat something because you are hurt and, oh no, I just ate a raw piece of chicken. Raw food and fish should not count as food. Catch a fish and go to take it into your inventory... Oh wait, you can't because you have five pieces of food. You should be allowed to have x amount of food and x amount of raw food maybe even x amount of fish.

Another idea is to not only have color cues while cooking but perhaps sound as well. Whether the fried sound starts out loud and then the crackling lessens or a ding like some sort of timer set? A sound cue could give pirates who aren't able to be glued to the stove a chance not to burn food.
Digging bait / Raw Food / Food

Don't disagree but, in the meantime, you can cancel the animation if you are quick enough by switching to a weapon or something.

Yep, it really should prioritise cooked food over raw. A workaround is to assign food to a button, so you can cycle through them quicker.

There is already an audio cue, though you may need to train your ears to listen for it. You can hear a sound like oil hissing (drying out) when the food is perfectly cooked. It's even audible from the helm on a Galleon if you have decent headphones.

Yeah...magically dig something up and it ends up in your pocket. Or hear me out...pay more attention?

Again...pay attention..
Raw food and fish should not count as food.
It does. It heals a little but at a cost.
Catch a fish and go to take it into your inventory... Oh wait, you can't because you have five pieces of food.
haha, we all been there. Yeah 5 pieces is the limit. idk maybe go fishing with empty pockets?

Risk of burning foods or burning your ship if you forget.
Dont think in the "Time Era" of SOT..they had Timers or magic dings to say, food done.It basics time management, mostly 45 seconds for most of the foods before it Cooks. Bigger stuff is about 1.45 or so.
Once you got that memorized, you dont need to watch.@realstyli It is funny you mention that audio cue because I thought I might have heard it the other day but then I tried again and couldn't tell between the waves and going-ons above bored. Weird.

It doesn't have to "Magically" end up in your pocket, it can be implied that you put it in your pocket or if you prefer there can be an animation of putting it in your pocket and then grabbing the shovel again. This is a game, you know?
-
Again... This has nothing to do with attention. If you are looking to mimic real life most people don't eat raw food nor do they mix raw and cooked food. If I was holding raw and cooked food they would be separated to prevent contamination and so I would not accidentally eat raw food.
-
Id rather it not heal. If someone purposely wants to eat the raw meat or bait, they can make that an option so long as they are attached to their own button and not food.
-
How many fish can you carry with you when you go fishing? what about hunting? If you have food but catch fish do you have to get rid of your food? 5 food, keep it 5 food. Allow 5 raw foods, separate, no healing. Done.
-
Not sure what they had, pretty sure bells were around. I am okay with better food sound cues, there is apparently one now but it is hard to distinguish. I don't want to get rid of burning food or the ship, it is a great addition, just a better cue for those doing other things, if they still forget, rip.
