Okay... I agree with that, though that's totally aside from the point I was making.
I was merely attempting to establish that playing the game in an unintended way is not always bad for the game. Spiking lobbies for naval scrims (agreeing to avoid chest-running), or "rowboat races," are not the intended use of Arena, but these games do not hurt anyone, especially when done in a vacuum.
I agree with you, it's a lot of fun to create new ways to play, I once did a kind of hugby with gunpowder, there's no problem in creating new modes, even that should be encouraged. The problem here is that TDM and Server Alliances are the bad behavior of many players, problems for the community that plays "right". I'm not saying all "TDMers" and "Alliancists", but unfortunately a large portion. I've been on both sides, I don't know in other countries, but here they are the focus of these problems.
Perhaps our experiences are different, but in mine, I've experienced much more toxicity in Adventure after stealing someone's loot than I've been experienced in TDMs.
I could be wrong, but at least in the communities I've met, the vast majority of TDM players tend to have quite inflated ego and tend to be the center of toxicity, so much so that it's currently impossible to talk in arena mode. When in adventure, these folks used to spawncamp for no apparent reason. Of course, I am in favor of the practice in specific cases, but it was really for no reason at all. Even these same people have had many banned accounts, but they always create new ones to continue doing everything that is not correct. I hope this is only in the communities I've participated in, but that's a big problem, unfortunately it is.
I'm not saying that there aren't rude players who also TDM, but I wouldn't conflate the two unnecessarily.
Are you opposed to someone playing Arena for the sole purpose of boarding? Because that is how a lot of players work on their weapon commendations and boarding-pvp practice.
I haven't in a while, but I used to try to lock down a 1v4. Or just stay on my ship, wait for players to try to camp me, and break out of it.
So if someone is in Arena to pvp, but not naval; and no one wishes to TDM with them; and they don't wish to re-queue the lobby, it leaves them with few options. Either camp the chest for pvp or board ships for pvp.
I don't care if I'm boarded, most of the time they don't even make it past the ladders. But when it's you solo or with a friend against 8 other players who spend the day playing TDM things get complicated. If it was a fight where everyone egainst everyone I wouldn't see any problem, but clearly it's everyone against you. And well, it's no problem for them, after all, their main accounts have already been banned and if they are, they won't be missed.
A dedicated TDM mode, which is what OP is asking for, would be in its own server and would not disturb anyone.
But again, as I said in my last post, the only way to organize TDMs, naval scrims and races will be in private sessions.
I would rather see communities grow within SoT and use those private sessions, than send them elsewhere.
This will never happen, Rare clearly doesn't want PvP in the game and knows that many problems are caused by TDM, so we don't have to think too much to know that this will never happen, the Arena closure is proof of that.
