More Uses for Ritual Skulls

  • It's obvious that most ritual skulls are simply sold for 10 doubloons (a currency that is only worth to convert to gold but that's another story), but what if we added more options than just starting FOTD, since let's be honest FOTD takes some time, may bring unwanted attention, and can be annoying to start up if the lanterns are not lit.

Simple ideas I had were to be able to use them at various islands and forts to just summon a skeleton lord, or maybe use them at sea at beacons of sorts to spawn in skeleton lord galleons (which are just skelly gallys but much stronger). Seems like a fun simple addition to the game that can build upon previously added content.

None of these would spawn a massive skull that can be seen across the map, instead just a larger than average flare like skull that can be seen within a few tiles. This would make them safer than FOTD but still a risk, and can be done much quicker with less set up time. Of course they would give significantly less good loot but still be fun and worthwhile to do instead of discarding the ritual skulls!

  • I wish they could be used at all those ritual tables around the world that are only used for Tall Tales today. Spawn sort of a mini battle with Graymarrow like we saw in the Fate of the Damned event.

That said, I want there to be more player activated world events than just the FOTD, so I would definitely want them to be visible across the sea.

I also think they should de-activate Molten Sands as a regular skull fort and make it a player activated world event location.

  • make them safer than FOTD but still a risk, and can be done much quicker with less set up time.

That a No go for me.

  • @burnbacon why not? That’s significantly riskier than their current use of being sold for 5 doblouns lol.

My personal record for FOTD is just under 15 min so it’s not time stopping ppl from doing it it’s the risk + massive set up.

This introduces a smaller risk with smaller set up for less loot. It does not devalue Fotd and will liven up PVP on servers since these are not risk free since the still have a small signal.

Overall this is significantly more dangerous than 99% of the other activities in the game just not the same level of risk as FOTD.

  • @sweetsandman activating at the ritual tables sounds awesome! And I love the idea of actually being able to see Molten Sands again lol.

However I would prefer a mix of risk/reward activities. Players may not always want super high risk events and as a result will still just sell ritual skulls.

I would much prefer more players doing “low” risk stuff than selling them. Mind this low risk stuff as I said would still give a flare/sign of sorts just not as obvious as FOTD. Which in turn still makes it significantly riskier than 99% of the other activities in the game.

In addition something like this may help newer players grow confidence to try riskier stuff in the future and we may actually see FOTD on a server more often.

Been a long while since I stole or did a good FOTD stack been pretty stale as of late.

  • i think being able to use them at the ritual tables around the world could summon graymarrow as said, but when he dies he drops some loot of the damned like a few chests, crates, skulls and ofc a captains skull.

  • So you want to use loot to grow more loot with less risk? The ritual skull already does the 1st half of that, and the FotD is the counterbalance to that. In this case, you can't make your cake and eat it too. Sorry.

Expand on it, sure, but not this way.

The biggest concern with risk/reward comes from server hoppers, right? If the mini-event was fast enough (think 10ish minutes for a good solo player) to complete and offered an appropriate loot return for its quickness, you wouldn't have to worry so much about a giant beacon for the entire sea to look at. Because the odds of a hopper seeing it and getting over to you in under 10 minutes would be low. That's why I solo the Ashen Winds event so regularly...I probably average 15 minutes solo to complete it not using any cannonballs. The reward vs time is very high.

I mean I support any additional player-activated world events. I just feel they should be visible from across the sea, not just a few sqaures away. That's how treasuries are today and they go largely ignored despite a high reward vs time.

Honestly, I think the biggest problem with the FOTD is the fated flames. The event itself is pretty quick if you have the right crew. My buddy and I do it around 15 minutes and we're by no means the best of the best in terms of PvE sweat lords. I would certainly do them way more often if I didn't have to go through the annoying exercise of getting the lights. That usually takes twice as long as the event itself lol. If the lights were on a timer and then automatically re-lit, I think you'd see way more people attempting the FOTD. Or, if they made those mini-voyages that got you the lights from the Fate of the Damned event a permanent fixture of Larinna's voyage offers, that would work too.

  • I'd love to see more usage brought in for Ritual Skulls!
You're absolutely right that they mostly just get sold for doubloons haha!
2 uses I think could be neat are:
You could use a Ritual Skull at any fort to trigger the standard skeleton fort to start, including the massive skull cloud. (I rarely ever even see these nowadays so it would be nice to have them be a more frequent occurrence to get people chasing after.)
    OR
The Ritual Skull could be consumed/destroyed to make a random fort become active, with a slight visual queue that it was manually summoned, potentially with a greater reward than a standard fort.

Maybe it's just the servers I get in, but I almost never see forts up, and when they do pop up, no one really goes for them because there's way better methods to make money.
I think being able to kickstart a few forts manually would be good for adventurers and thieves alike! It would be a breath of action into a sometimes empty horizon.

  • @galactic-geek
The ritual skull does exactly that’s expand small loot to bigger loot.

Now FOTD is high exposure for high loot.

This would add a use for the skull for lower exposure (BUT STILL EXPOSURE) but lower loot.

This is still more exposure than 99% of the activities in this game. Just not as much as FOTD is.
