My suggestion is to have loot drop at the end of the kraken event rather than having it drop per kraken tentacle. Depending upon the length of the fight, loot begins to sink by the time the fight is actually over. Just my .02 cents, I would rather see loot spawn similar to defeating a meg.
Loot Drop for Krakens
I don't think it should be per tentacle it should just float up in the part where the last part of the ink clears up when it is vanquished
and it should have the rng of a meg for a sloop kill and have it improved for brig kills and even more for galleon
I'd even make inked versions of existing higher end loot, stronghold skulls, ritual skulls, etc for the more difficult krakens
@wolfmanbush It should be the same loot regardless of ship type, but improved from what it is now. The
difficultytediousness of the fight should be balanced across ship types however.@jumli7 said in Loot Drop for Krakens:
@jester1027 Yes, and they need to bump up the Kraken loot since it's not worth fighting for.
How much should fighting with 2 times 3 shots for a sloop be worth ... ?
A Kraken might even go down faster than a skeleton captain.
@lem0n-curry If we put jokes aside & be realistic, FULLY defeating a Kraken takes at least 10-15 minutes by an average player & you ONLY get a handful of loot and meat. Cheers!

There is no incentive to fight a resource heavy foe without good loot drops and a sloop kraken can literally be brought down with as little as 3 cannonballs and rarely more than 6ish required
@wolfmanbush That's what I mean, it should take the same amount of resources across ship types. Why should it be easy on a sloop, but hell on a galley?

What ? Perhaps if you're solo on a Galleon, but on a sloop you have to down only two tentacles. Each tentacle takes 2 or 3 shots. That's less than a minute.
Solo on a sloop you can take down a Kraken before she damages the ship.
Nowhere close to 15 minutes.@wsurftvveeds said in Loot Drop for Krakens:

Well imo it should be hell on all ships given that it's a kraken and a major part of lore and a very significant and somewhat rare event
but going easy on sloops is an understandable compromise for a shared environment.
Pve being wrecking machines a couple years ago was better for the game imo.
Pve and kegs doing major damage is generally a good thing for the combat environment imo and makes far more interesting scenarios than easily beaten/avoided pve
It was so much fun back in the day when a kraken/meg or a keg completely turned the tide in fights. Now it's a diet version when it happens
@lem0n-curry Not everyone is on a sloop, but nevertheless the amount of loot isn't well balanced for the time. Megalodon loot is 3x more.

Why should a sloop, that needs just 6 cannonballs and about 30 seconds to defeat it, get the same amount of treasure as the galleon, that needs a lot more?@jumli7 said in Loot Drop for Krakens:

You used the singular average player, I assumed you were talking about one person crew.
It's been a while since I've been on a full-manned brigantine or galleon, but looking at other crews being busy with Kraken, that 10-15 minutes is quite a stretch.A Megalodon takes quite some time more [than the time it takes down a Kraken, not the 10-15 you claim] (at least on a sloop) and more balls.
@lem0n-curry Nevertheless the Kraken loot isn't great and you know it. Especially compared to skelly ships & megs.
Defeating a kraken can easily take 10 minutes, depends on the ship type, crew experience and if they're prepared.
If the Kraken wraps its tentacle around the ship , it can already take a minute to get it off, and Kraken can do it multiple times.
10 minutes isn't a stretch at all. Saying it takes "less than a minute" is a stretch.
You can simply watch people defeating the kraken on youtube, see how long it takes an average or a new player to defeat it.Happy sailing! Cheers!

Less than a minute on a sloop, Galleon crew has to down 7-8 tentacles; one person below deck doing repairs, half the time a person bailing I guess. Still would leave 2 persons with 3 maybe 4 tentacles each to kill.
New or crews that have never had a Kraken before, sure - they don't know what to do and might sink while only bailing and repairing. They either sink or have a long fight. As would crews that haven't stock up properly - that's on them and would not qualify them as an average crew...
Other crews try to escape it or fight it; neither should take 10 minutes.

It shouldn't, but it can.
We had an encounter and decided to defeat it on a brig, it took somewhere between 5-10 minutes, including gathering the loot.
What I can tell you from that, that definitely wasn't less than a minute & wasn't worth it.

Hey, we are here to give ideas & feedback for the devs, not make game decisions. If Rare likes a concept or an idea, they'll have to figure it out & make it work, not us.

Happy sailing, Cheers!I think the kraken should be harder on the sloop, but making it "hard" like on the brig or the galleon would overwhelm especially new crews...I'm all for the customized version we have now, but not as easy as it is now...
At least each tentacle should drop 2 treasures instead of just 1 and 1 meat...@schwammlgott Aye, True! Maybe they could make it so, that sloops could get away from the Kraken more easily,
but fully defeating it takes the same amount of hits as with other ships? What if tentacles only drop meat, and added an actual head for the Kraken (in adventure mode), and it could drop all the loot? I don't know...

Happy sailing!Again, the less than a minute is on a sloop; your 5-10 on a brig including picking up treasure is far from the 15 minutes fight you started with ...
Spending time to get the one piece of loot and Kraken meat isn't worth it - no matter how long the actual fight takes. Unless low on meat or a very very nice treasure, I don't bother.

Well there we go, they could perhaps evolve Kraken into a more enjoyable fight and maybe have some more loot from it, so people would bother. Would make the whole game a bit more richer. Happy sailing!

Improving the Kraken experience would be great - if she becomes more difficult to vanquish then some improvement to the loot would be nice.
@jester1027 agreed it makes that fight worth doing also considering how rare that fight is now felt like we used to run into the thing all the time
I'd love if one of these were implemented:
- If the kraken's loot drops after the kraken has been defeated.
- If the kraken's loot stays afloat until after the ink clears, and then the sink timer starts.
- Or at the very least if the sink timer was increased by a lot.
I hate it that the kraken is so much harder than the megalodon, and yet unless you're extremely fast you will not be able to get all of its loot. If something isn't done to make sure you can get all of its loot (or it is made much easier to get all of the loot before it sinks), then at the last solution I can think of is to simply make the amount of loot that drops more. But that would raise its own set of problems, especially if you are able to kill it very quickly and thus not miss any of the loot as now there would be too much loot for it to still be balanced.

Happy sailing!I was thinking... what if the current kraken stays as it is, but then also add a new kraken that sometimes ambushes people in the thick mists. This new kraken would be younger and would rear its head out of the water and attack much more similarly to the one in the tall tale. Lorewise it could be explained that the younger kraken is perhaps more reliant on the mists to conceal and protect itself, wheras the more mature one uses ink in place of that.
