As was suggested by @XZODEAK in another recent topic of mine, it could be useful if you were able to refill/restock your mobile ammo crates with ammo pouches that are dropped from enemies. To balance it, each ammo pouch could perhaps only refill a max of 5 ammo/charges to the crate.

Maybe this isn't effective or practical.
Where would you do that? In a skeleton forts, where are there two other boxes of ammunition? A big island where there are also other boxes of ammunition? Just leave your ammo box in an intermediate position, and when it runs out you should go to the fixed ammo boxes and reload. The reload will be faster than you get using the scattered ammo bags, and you can soon get back into the action. Leave ammo bags for emergency refills, preferably in more remote locations, while running to the ammo boxes.
On small islands, your ship will be so close that you can go back to it and reload both your weapon and your ammo box. Ammo bags are best for fast, direct refills, without having to have the box in hand, click the bag, drop the box, and click it to reload. Use the ammo bags and reload your weapon when you arrive on large islands reload your ammo box. Nothing has changed

That, and there are a few islands where the ammo boxes aren't in very desirable positions and you're also not able to park the ship in a very good or very close position, or sometimes there aren't even any ammo boxes.

Small islands, are so small, that you can cross it with a cannon shot and fall into the sea. The other islands have one or more ammo box, with time you get to know them and anchor your boat at the point that will suit your needs.

You can already refill the moveable ammo box from fixed ammo boxes in the world, and from the one on your ship!
Simply pick it up and hold it in front of one out in the world.
Every large island has at least 1, and forts have multiple. Plenty of places to restock it on your rowboat adventures

@maironds88 being able to fill my ammo box at 100% of islands (excluding islands that enemies don't spawn) rather than 50% would be a drastic change. Also I never really need to use ammo on the islands I mostly use ammo fighting ships sharks and mermaids which is why it would be nice to stop at any island to restock it (rowing takes a long time).
