  • @prescafatty do you mean the same ice zone that has been shot down countless times here & by falcore himself? that ice zone? next thing you know he'll be tossing up vids in favor of PvE servers... lol -vids are good, streams are borderline toxic

  • You do know 90% of this be a giant joke right? Poke fun of.

It all sounds good but be serious....WHY! do we need a frozen area....

  • Why did you put the nitrado advertising up?

  • The thing i take most from that video is the realization that the world will never grow much larger than it currently is due to last gen restraints. And that anything extra added will have to be in another dimension from the current map if it is to be big.

So how long will this game continue on being held back by Xbox one/S/X limitations or will there come a time where it will only be available on Series S and X consoles and PC, and be able to fully grow into what we would all like it to be, with a massive map expansion and extra players added to each server.

  • @burnbacon if it really is a joke… wow. That’s sarcasm on a level I just don’t want to partake in.

  • @prescafatty beg for views somewhere else. Get a real job.

It's not the OP's video, it's Captain Falcore, who is a Sea of Thieves Partner. And full-time content creation is a real job. But, then again, I work as an audio engineer in the entertainment industry, so perhaps I should get a real job.

  • I feel like something like these proposed "Expeditions" will happen eventually. The portals are too wasted an opportunity not to use them to expand the world in a last-gen friendly way.

I'm not sure they necessarily need to be tied to a specific activity akin to a voyage that ends when one crew "wins", but it would make sense to introduce a means to group multiple crews together in a new environment and not leave portals as just a means to create an isolated instance for a single crew.

In terms of the game being "held back" by last-gen support, I think it's feasible that one day there could be a cut off where the Xbox One client is no longer updated and players using it will be grouped together and away from "current-gen" players. If I remember correctly, Final Fantasy XIV did something similar with the jump from PS3 to PS4, and PS3 players could only play up to a certain expansion.

  • @realstyli sorry I don’t know who any of these “content creators”(that just seem to leech off others creations) are. Audio engineering is a legit skill, don’t pretend like what you do is on the level of YouTube streamer tier.

  • The dude is literally begging for upvotes, he doesn’t even explain for what or why to watch. Just a link and please upvote any retail bot would do the same

A lot of content creation falls under the umbrella of entertainment. It's not really any different to late show hosts "leeching" off the popularity of their guests or making content around news topics.

I might be highly skilled at what I do (I would hope so after over two decades) but I still have an appreciation for those content creators who can make genuinely entertaining or informative content. I have a lot of time for content creators who go the extra step to make quality videos or streams (audio is obviously something I notice and I love when they get it right or put in the effort to).

Yes, there is a spectrum of how much effort is put into it, but there are a lot of really talented and hard working content creators, even in the Sea of Thieves.

Back on topic, I don't always agree with Captain Falcore's speculations or opinions, but I subscribe to him on YouTube because it's good to see other's perspectives on the game, and maybe learn a thing or two. I hope they do use the portals for more things besides two Tall Tales and a way to server hop, but I'm not really interested in the "expeditions" he proposes.

  • @louiscyphere1 Disregarding the rather minimal original post, if you aren't going to discuss or put forth your own ideas and opinions about the proposed idea and just seek to put down someone else's lifestyle/career choice, then you're better off moving on with your day.

I personally thought the video was quite entertaining, the idea is very clearly inspired by Dread Hunger, but ultimately i think it's something that wouldn't hold tons of staying power.
I love the idea of a larger island with ways to sneak in or hide your ship, but being one large sheet of ice would get very dull, especially when Sea of Thieves' environments are so beautiful and vibrant to begin with, i'd much rather see it's own aesthetic get the big island treatment, like a tropical jungle. In my personal opinion, snow/ice zones in many games are usually samey and plain.
Furthermore, i think the "Expedition" idea is good, but it just being a walk-a-thon to the end would be uninteresting, especially if you did it without any player interjections. Without major attractions along the island, it would begin to feel like a Tall Tale minus the Tale. Different routes, or some form of randomised element could solve this perhaps.
All in all i think the fundamental suggestions in the video are good, but i really don't think an Ice zone has a place in Sea of Thieves to begin with, but it IS the most suggested world expansion, perhaps second to Sea of the Damned, so it's a clear go-to example for sure.

  • @needsmokes Rockstar did it with GTA5...we can only hope Rare and Microsoft eventually get to a point where you can only play SOT on Xbox One consoles via XCloud.

  • @sweetsandman Honestly, the Xcloud tech looks VERY promising, give it a few more months and let it grow in popularity and i feel this will be the best approach. If you own Sea of Thieves on XBox One and they cancel support for it, perhaps you get some sort of free "Xcloud ticket" for the game, and can play it on there from then on, or until you can upgrade your console. Gamepass users obviously already will be able to do so of course.

  • @silentkiller646 Yeah we're definitely nearing a fork in the road, not just for SOT but for a lot of games in the next year or 2...either you'll have to stop supporting last gen (which makes XCloud very appealing), or hold your game back from being the best it can be.

  • @sweetsandman I think the tech shortage and scalping has lowered the likelihood we will see a cutoff anytime soon, but i think once more Xbox series X/S' are in peoples homes over the next few months/year, then they'll be in a healthy position to lay Xbox One support to rest, and the game, hopefully, will absolutely flourish.

  • @burnbacon we have two beach levels, a haunted beach level, the fire level, and now the water level (an aspect of gaming most don't enjoy), everyone enjoys an ice level for the most part. its probably just a big enough joke at this point that people want to see it come to fruition.

  • OP chiming back in. I agree with @silentkiller646.

We can debate "ice zones" to the end of time, and the concept as presented probably needs some work.

But the IDEA behind it, whether it happens in the snow or the desert, is amazing! It's basically a half-step between Adventure and Arena—staying true to PVPE, but moving it into a more pressurized, more competitive environment.

I've played my fill of SoT at this point. The new season looks fine. But if this game added Expeditions... holy smokes, I would be back in so hard.

  • @prescafatty
New modes of play always provide me the biggest reasons to keep coming back. Take the Arena, it represents a significant time investment for me. I'm always down for a new mode of play, and I like a lot of Captain Falcore's ideas. It would be nice if there were more uses for the portals. Though, the sunken kingdom is enough of a "new area" to make me want to explore it all I can. I like the idea of putting more things actually in the Sea of Thieves instead of taking us out of it (The Sea of the Damned doesn't count).
We have four big story threads right now: Flameheart, The Sunken Kingdom, the Sea of the Damned, and the Dark Brethren. S4 expands the Sunken Kingdom thread, so I'm expecting S5 to be a continuation of that thread or an expansion of Flameheart and the Sea of the Damned together. Flameheart is heavily tied with the Sea of the Damned in our story, so I think it would be a nice duo.

Anyway, what I'm saying is, Expeditions wouldn't work as an ice region. But it could work with one of our threads. Falcore based his idea off of something like Dread Hunger and even said that they could add more expeditions over time. Instead of an ice region, I think that something like Expeditions could work really well as an expedition into the Sea of the Damned or as a plunge into the Sunken Kingdom. To me at least, this sounds 10 times more epic.
For a long time, pirates have theorized what kind of thing we could be doing in the Sea of the Damned. Maybe this is the right thing, but only if Rare wants to split modes again...

  • @grumpyw01f

    Love it!

I personally am all for an Ice Region. But I'm even more excited by Expeditions, in whatever form they take. I would be equally excited to see an Expedition into the Sea of the Damned.

  • @drizkillz

Maybe you should watch the vid before commenting? He clearly deals with the issues.

Expeditions sound good and I like the idea of the heat meter. I think the thing I like about an ice level is bergs of different sizes floating around, it would make combat a bit harder.

  • @miserenz subbed since he started and watch when released... it's a joke that's run its course. the expedition concept would work for a multitude of other gameplay using the sea of the damned maps, or other single purpose locations: battle royale, ctf, prop hunt... etc. the game is already grinding enough, there's no need to keep twisting that screw for ice. I mean, ice? how boring can it get? let's go do a desert... great! let's try & find things to do in baren wastelands.... sign me up or let it die already.

  • @louiscyphere1 is everything a cynical conspiracy to you?

  • Right because Captpain Failbore was the first and only person to suggest this.

  • @amybun No one said that.

  • @prescafatty Ice zone sounds cool... after we get something more unique and original. Just because theres a fire zone does not mean we need an ice zone. I want region of mountainous islands that you need to cannon to access, and thin, wobbly bridges connect tall spiring plateaus. One wrong step and you're falling 200 feet.

  • @klutchxking518 Exactly the point i made! An ice zone would be so dull, especially when the Devil's Roar DOES have it's own unique aesthetic outside of being essentially a "fire level". A sheet of white and blue, and maybe some grey, would just not be visually interesting no matter the spin put on it.
I REALLY like the mountainous idea, something with winding jagged paths and cliffside views, like Tribute Peak but over a much larger island! And rickety bridges across chasms is cool too, much like the scene in POTC: Dead Man's Chest on the cannibal island. In fact, when i suggested lush jungles and such instead of an ice zone, that scene was what i had in mind!

  • I think people are too hung up on the ice zone part of the idea and not the expedition part of the concept.

  • @amybun said in Captain Falcore's Expeditions:

    Did you even watch it?LOL

  • @mferr11 I’ve never really been a fan of the ice zone thing because it would practically be the devils roar again where it’s the same gameplay with some nuisances and some extra gold. It usually never gets touched by players. Now, if the ice zone thing was introduced as an expedition as falcore suggested, it would not be too bad honestly.

  • @klutchxking518 Awesome. There could definitely be an Expedition to the islands you're describing, sounds super fun.

  • @prescafatty No thanks, I think an expansion is needed. I want new scenery on my voyages, not one-off locations

what makes you think I have any desire to watch Captpain Failbore?

  • @drizkillz "Shutdown" so you speak on behalf of Rare and the community?
There are so many people who would love to see it like me and im not sure why do you think this idea is off the table....
