The Truth about server alliances.

  • Today, i entered the world on a sloop solo, shortly after gathering supplies and starting off my given quests i noticed every ship on my sever was running the reapers flag. So i set sail towards one of them. They are all in an alliance. I was asked if my ship could be used by them to bring other players on a waiting list on, to which i replied, i am awaiting a friend to join me for our session and we will be runnning athena today, we aren't interested in chasing you all. To which we joined their alliance.. Shortly afterwards things changed. I was invited to a party chat and told my ship was needed for other players and the whole server will hunt me down and spawn kill me over and over until we leave the server. To which they all did.. As i currently solo, i didn't bother to put up any fight as of yet.. I just sat back and laughed at the PVE'ers attempts at killing a static ship and player.. Took them a while. And was told over and over again to join a new server.. What sort of behavior is this!! No doubt the whole alliance will also be reporting me as many have been adding me as a friend to which i won't respond or accept.. I have kept any chat from myself very civil, accept for saying they have made their bed and when my +1 joins me, we will spend our day collecting flags.

So no doubt i will have many reports against me today.. I hope someone from Rare reads this and responds to all those who have sent false reports in so they can attempt to bully a player from the game to have their own way.

  • report it and move on as targeting people over and over to get them to leave is against the rules

I've seen it. I've seen the tactics they use. Just record gameplay and report it and leave it at that.

as long as you follow the rules and don't get baited there isn't any evidence against you to worry about.

in this specific case if you don't have video evidence you can send a context report just to help them have something to compare notes on

Keep it context and not commentary. Just facts.

  • @needsmokes
Wow. What a bunch of losers.

The thing that I dislike the most is their threats.

the whole server will hunt me down and spawn kill me over and over until we leave the server.

These scare tactics don't work on players that know what they're doing... So I can imagine them hunting down newer players that don't know how to use game chat or join an alliance or even just want to be left alone.

I wish I found more of these so I could fight them all!

  • Saw a reaper ship, found out they were in an alliance with server. Sailed toward them.

Never seen those words used together. :p

  • Don't join random xbox parties.

Think everything else has already been said. A lot of alliance servers suck.

  • Spiteful reporting without evidence en masse against you never works.

Way back in 2011, I saw a video by the head of the Xbox Live Enforcement Team who explained that similar reports in a short time against a single individual were all lumped into a single report so that this kind of thing couldn't be abused. They could also see who played with who too, so a clan, for example, couldn't send hundreds of reports against you - all would be discarded, except for those who were in the actual game together. And those that were would also be discarded if there was no actual evidence of an alleged violation.

For reports to actually work, an individual has to either A) commit a very serious violation, like cheating or racist remarks (with proof), or B) commit more minor violations consistently over a much longer period of time that is also consistently reported.

And this was back in 2011! I imagine it's even better now. While I can't speak for Steam or other similar enforcement services, I imagine that they have similar policies in place.

If I can find the video again, I will share it.

  • @galactic-geek Xbox yes....Rare, though?

  • I just blocked all the messages i was sent and went about having a bit of fun combat practice on my sloop for a few hours. Didn't go too well for me, but I had some fun. Slowed them cheesing gold for a while whilst I sailed about I guess.

I never really had any real prejudices against server alliances and those engaged in them before. But that has now changed.

  • @needsmokes

Same happened to me 2 years ago. A friend and I let one join and he reported our movements to the alliance as we where followed where ever we wen I kept him prisoner for 2 hours telling him the clan doesn’t care about you…. your stuck in the brig for two hours. You get nothing for your time. He finally left after realizing he was stuck and not reaping any rewards….this was before emissary flags.

He had jumped off with the Athena chest in a storm is why we we put him in the brig.

While in the brig he was looking at the map table so my mate went and put the map view in the bottom right corner so he had no idea where we were.

  • @needsmokes Yet for some reason yesterday you commented; "The average player suffers from the effect of alliance servers."

Now I wonder if the story is true at all.

  • @thagoochiestman

Of course your correct: ** I hope someone from Rare reads this and responds to all those who have sent false reports in so they can attempt to bully a player from the game to have their own way.**

I suppose i just post things like this for the attention.

Rare wants you to send following when reporting a player:

    • The offending users Gamertag.
    • Full details of the incident
    • Supporting images and / or video clips of the incident.

So as long as you don't swear or do anything that's report worthy it won't matter if all of them report you as they won't have evidence for it.

  • @needsmokes People like to go on and on about big bad PvP'ers. I been playing online games for awhile, PvP, PvE, PvPvE and PvE'rs are some of the most nasty biggest bullies ive come across.

As far what to do if land in an alliance server. Best to just leave, its not worth the aggravation and I am sure its rare to land in one anyways. Just let them hide away and grind if that's how they want to play.

  • Me and my crew spawned on a reapers alliance server yesterday, they where highly coordinated in the sense that if we approached 1 ship they all sailed to each other in order to take us down.

It cost us a galleon or two but in the end we where victorious, they weren’t able to make good money for 3 or so hours, stole a tonne of loot including 6-7 athena chests.

When we first started attacking them they where all smack talking left and right but in the end one by one they started crumbling and none of them dared to attack us galleon v galleon without another ship present, it looked pretty pathetic actually.

What loot we weren’t able to steal or pick up out of the water we where sure to let sink and after taking them down a couple of pegs the final ships sold some of their loot and scuttled post haste.

It felt great taking down these gold cheesers and to make them eat their words in the end was even more awesome.

  • As it been said many time on here, just report those villains displaying disgusting behaviour.

How dared they call themselves pirates and attempt seize control on the lawless sea like The East India Company and take everyone freedom for greedy desire!

  • I obviously can't speak on behalf of the support crew but their reports will fall apart when they say "we asked these guys to leave the server so we can have their sloop for our server alliance".

  • For the record: NOT okay with these types of aggressive server Alliances. Or the ones that want you to make "pve srvs plx plox" threads. Shut those down. As a non aggressive pve player. SHUT THOSE GUYS DOWN.

Alliance servers are a necessary evil. PvE and TDM can attest.

  • Oh man we need bigger servers. Would be awesome to land a PvP fleet on that sort of alliance server and teach them some manners.

Also I wonder if these alliance servers are a regional thing? On EU I've only seen 3-4 ship alliances maybe 2 times in past 1,5 years. 2 ship alliances happen but they are no problem for anyone.

  • @elkee said in The Truth about server alliances.:

Indeed, but depends on how elaborate they with the truth when they write out their reports.

"they came towards us and started attacking", then "they just kept coming back and pestering us". I doubt anyone organised enough to try and intentionally report and have someone banned will be daft enough to tell the truth as to their actions in game sadly.

The kind of two-ship alliance we had at the weekend was much more fun and more of what I feel Rare intended - each of the two vessels off doing it's own thing as needed for the evening and meeting up as required to share some loot.

  • @needsmokes

I wanted to play the game by my own way in the past (Doing Pve) and a lot of players sunk me and bullied me. Answer from the community at forums -> Scuttle or jump to another server.

What you suffered, is what new players suffers every day when they play adventure mode.

    Spawn at outpost
Get chased by a bunch of griefers
Get sunked by that bunch of griefers
Repeat again and again and again.

As people say here -> Is a Pirate game :) If a pirate brotherhood decides to destroy you, they will.

This is the monster that PvP abusers and griefers made.

  • @elci-poteh said in The Truth about server alliances.:

Of course, PVE players bullying other PVE players into giving their spot for more PVE friends to come farm with them. Obviously it's PVP's fault.

The issue is abusers sure, but playstyle has nothing to do here. Quit it with the PVP boogeyman yeah?

  • Report them.

and give in to the terrorists? Not a chance. I'm all for alliances, but this behavior makes no sense. While it good to sail with friends, they weren't asking to swap a crew member on a boat, they just wanted the boat. What difference does it make if its a sloop from your crew or not, they were willing to be in the alliance (and they had 5 already).

This is really bad form by that specific alliance and continuing to hold a spot until they get bored is the best thing you can do to interfere. I couldn't imagine wasting all that time to grief someone whos WILLING TO BE IN THE ALLIANCE.

If they had asked nicely and I didn't have much time invested by the time the situation became clear I most likely would have traded the ship or just switched servers. Sounds like the alliance hadn't learned you catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

I get that giving into them is not a great option but I mean if Rare devs dont give a crappola about it why waste your time and energy on it? Trust me I do not agree with these servers or their tactics one bit.

Also they will and do give your gamer tag to their alliance to report and while some say that mass reporting doesn't work I dont really trust reporting systems much when it comes to fairness.

I have been in situations where I have been reported by multiple salty players(large crews) at a time on other games and then I get a notice that due to reports my accounts is being monitored for being a cheater. For me its not worth the risk on SOT, the grind to PL when I did it was too long. However if its worth the risk for you by all means have at it.

  • @callmebackdraft Gold cheesers?

    I like it! 😅

  • @leftypirate99 I fully agree, with you and most of the other people here. However, you may want to remove a certain word beginning with T and sounds like error and ist. Warnings are not fun.
