NPC's that can help sell loot and other suggestions

  • Before you read this suggestion, i've been playing this game since day 1 release, on and off at least. So i'm experienced with the game.

    But,
I think it would be a good idea to add in some npc's that sit on the docks of the outposts looking cool.

We should be able to go up to them and purchase their help, to help sell loot on our ship, give them a check list that we can choose what type of loot they sell, in case your keeping something for a certain reason. Also allow players to take the loot from them or hit them to force them to drop the loot so players can still steal the loot.

I'm suggesting this because this game has a lot of stuff to do on it at the moment and you really can't play this game much in a "short" amount of time. Selling loot by its self can take up to 30 minutes. Some people have suggested to me to just allow a mass sell, where you wait for like 5 minutes then it sells all loot but personally I think it would be better to make outposts look alive, to have npc's running around selling loot and stuff.

I also think some games need to be placed in taverns so people can chill out and hang out and play card games or dice games. Example, Red Dead redemption 2's poker system. (i do believe this is probably been suggested, i just feel like its missing a key part of being a pirate, gambling)

  • I really like the idea of "hireable" npcs. You should also be able to hire a deck hand who would bail water and fix sails but not repair holes, steer or fire cannons. Would make the game more possible for solo players.

  • @tpieman2029 ^^ agreed, if they can learn to make hireable npc's it will allow for pve human ships that could sail the oceans under the merchant alliance too~

  • This is not an MMO.

This game is designed for interaction between crews.
This is why the mundane act of handling cargo efficiently is so underrated.
This can actually make, or break a voyage.

Dont expect Rare to provide NPC's to do a job that you and your crew are expected to handle, any more than Rare providing NPC's that fight for you.

Some pirates think they're too awesome to hump rocks, I suppose.

  • @joe-krakatoa
I agree, it's mundane and it can take a while but it's also a part of the experience.

There are ways to speed up the process if you happen to be in possession of a harpoon rowboat.

It's really not that bad if you have the crew working together to sell as quickly as possible. On a galley have 2 people drop the treasure onto the dock from the bowsprit and the other 2 running off to sell it and make sure to avoid larger outposts like Golden Sands or Dagger Tooth.

This doesn't add anything to the game except make it a hair more convenient which isn't necessary because the current system works.

The point of the game is that the NPC's are "friends" with your pirate and you're all against the skeletal scourge which would make this suggestion of attacking NPC's not make sense lore-wise.

This wouldn't be possible without increasing the game's rating so I doubt they would do it.

  • @joe-krakatoa i don't disagree with you all that much tbh, but not everyone has 2 - 4 hours to play sea of thieves and tbh i've had a lot of friends stop playing this game just cause it takes to long to do mundane tasks, its more to help keep the playerbase higher and to give the world more immersion ^^ but i respect your opinion eitherway~

  • @capn-goofy-807 this issue really only effects sloops, i do solo sloop a lot, but it takes quite a long time to sell, obviously galleons don't have this issue for a lot of the stuff in this game just cause they have 4 people, but not everyone uses galleons

  • Sure. And when an enemy ship shows up they drop what they are doing and leave all your loot scattered across the outpost. Easy picking.

Alas, in this way it can be used as a warning signal that other crews are close-by.

  • @capt-soul-beard understandable about the damage to npc's hence why i said both hit or take, even if you don't attack them it could still be possible to "take" the loot from them, this suggestion is more ment for smaller ships, as obviously galleons are able to do everything in this game at a way faster speed, i mean if the playerbase wants to keep tedious tasks i don't really care all that much, but i don't see how adding this in would "hurt"

    As for gambling thats understandable, but i don't really see how this game has Teen rating to begin with since his games full of toxic players and racial slurs and the act of thievary i guess its ok for teens to steal :p and say racist stuff in chat? ^^;;;

  • @soulphia8253 and next comes an npc who keeps the ship sailing in a straight line, or helps you with the sails, cooks food for you...
Oh wait, many people say, there is nothing to do while sailing from A to B, how's that gonna help?
So...stop beeing a lazybeard and hurry selling

The game rating only applies to Rare generated content, hence why right on the box it states "Online Interactions Not Rated by the ESRB." I can't speak for the European PEGI, but ESRB has for a long time never applied to online play in games.

  • @schwammlgott i agree and disagree with you, i don't think we really "need" npcs for ship tasks, but them programming them would make it easier for them to make more ship related pve content, but i respect your opinion eitherway ^^

  • @nabberwar right but thievery, murder, and alchohol is only a teen rating? hmmm -thinks-

  • @soulphia8253

@nabberwar right but thievery, murder, and alchohol is only a teen rating? hmmm -think

Is this supposed to be some .."Gotcha"..? Just stop and take a look at other games with a T rating. A lot of them have thieving, murder, and alcohol use. Typically its the blood that will make it M rated. Hell, even look at movies based about teens that have that PG-13 label.

The gambling one makes sense to me, Gambling is very destructive to people. Introducing it to children a young age has consequences. With the advent of loot boxes, we need to really be on guard with this behavior. Children just don't have the developed tools to properly fend off gambling addiction.

When it comes to ESRB, it is just extremely taxing on a developer to wrangle that in. They can't be big brother to everyone without expending vast amounts of resources just to achieve it. Online has always been this way, its impossible to contain it without fully ruining it.

  • A big NO.

Some people want to play the game without playing the game.

NPC selling your loot is just for cowards who don't want to get stolen.

Selling a big haul is a tedious task but there are ways to do it quick like harpoon rowboats. It supossed to take time so other crews can catch you and steal your loot. It's part of the game.

  • @soulphia8253 think Minecraft, you are encouraged to kill pillagers and steal their stuff. It’s rated E10+. Rating only really applies for sexual content, language and gore. Not really some ridiculously powerful grog and stealing someone’s stuff because u want to and killing people.

  • It just sounds like someone wants to eat a sandwich while they play SoT.

Kind of like playing World of Warcraft.

About gambling games, Rare did not put all this effort into the water graphics and wooden ships just to have players sit in a tavern instead of plying the seas encountering other crews.

These ideas just sounds like more MMO drivel, when SoT is a session based experience.

  • Well thanks for your opinions. I'd still enjoy the feature sorry if you don't like the idea ^^;; i'm just trying to give out my thoughts to help players who have less time then the average hardcore gamers

  • @soulphia8253 I've mentioned in a FB group it would be cool if the NPC's have work shifts to mix it up. Different rotating characters, different attitudes, ethnicity, body types, gender etc. to give the impression of a larger faction at work. Also, and more importantly (for me) a day crew, and a lively night crew.

We've seen the day crew, so imagine a night crew such as a male tavern keeper that spit-shins the tankards and tells corny jokes. Or viewed at a distance, the night merchant looks all around to check for witnesses, then quickly takes a swig of a rum bottle. The shipwright could be asleep at her desk and snoring, maybe drooling a bit, then irritated you woke her. Or like the gold hoarder digging in his nose, and when you approach he jumps and wipes it on his shirt or something. A shopkeeper could be eating dinner, complaining his food is getting cold and hurry up, another could be drunk and telling bad but funny pick up lines. They always repeat the same dialogue and have the same movements. They should have their bad days too, moments they are grumpy, happy, trip and fall down, want to share a juicy piece of gossip, maybe tell a clue like Duke does. Make them seem more.... real.

I also like the aspect of games in the tavern. I've talked to others that want throwing daggers in game since we already use them to vote. I suggested using them as darts at a target board in the tavern. Would be especially interesting attempting while drunk.

  • @margothemeek That would be really cool, I've been thinking lately that a TCG would be nice to have in Sea of thieves, going around collecting cards with varying rarities, with the ability to trade with players, and play said TCG on the ship/tavern

  • Could be cool. Having a small army working for you that have to defend.

  • @soulphia8253 I think the idea of hirable crew is a great idea on a private server. But not on the main game.

  • @shadow20642 i don't expect them to ever allow players to have a pve server, its been requested since release, i don't think they intend too

    I never said PVE server.
    I said private server.
    They have no progression.

PVE servers wouldnt be any fun.

However, sailing in a server with no progression, inviting friends and having massive solo galleon battles would be pretty fun.
