Eh. I'm certainly not thrilled about the event. It makes it rather unenjoyable to do anything other than Reaper's Bones at the moment, because attempting to run Emissary for anyone else means the server's resident Reaper ship is absolutely going to come pay a visit. If I were already set up and had a full team going, that wouldn't be a big deal, but typically it's just me and my buddy sailing a sloop. It's pretty difficult to get set up without avoiding Emissary as well, since Reaper ships have all just made a bee-line since the event started. I dislike that I'm obliged to sit out content because an event has raised the risk of engaging in that content so dramatically that it's impractical to do it. For my group of folks, at least, it's been a very not-fun experience, and I'm inclined just to sit out the game until it's over (or until some kind of solution is issued, which I'm not holding my breath for). I don't mind Reaper's Bones, but I do kinda agree that the event is escalating Reaper's Bones from tolerable to obnoxious.
Can't say I really agree with the banter stuff tho. I've never really experienced banter in SoT. When other teams communicate, it's usually just to troll.
I have a question on this actually. No offense but your post doesn't make any sense.
So you are saying you are going to fly Reapers instead of your flag of choice because there will be Reapers on the seas to combat the Reapers that will eventually come after you if they see your or get to Grade 5.
My question is this. If you are gearing for the fight and are actually going to defend yourself. Then what does it matter what flag you fly?? If you fly Reapers they know where you are instantly. If you fly any other emissary then you might have some leeway in staying off radar for a bit.
Just wondering.
Also this next bit might sound harsh, but how does not being able to fly a emissary stop you from actually completing quests?? The emissary just gives you a bonus at turn in, its not mandatory. You can do everything you want without the flag. Risk and Reward, personal choice.
Also some advice for you and whoever you play with. This goes for OP also @therealdecoy-tm .
Most initial engagement with any PvP will entail some trash talking. Its just competitive banter that you would hear from friends playing Madden with each other or Halo or whatever. Its how you reply that is most important.
You'd be surprised how often PvP'ers are on the receiving end of what you call toxic even when we don't say anything. PvP'ers hear stuff on the mics all the time "Why are you attacking me? Living in your moms basement. Get your jollies off greifing normal people minding their own business because this is the only way you can feel good about yourself?"
That is some of the lighter stuff. It goes into full blown slurs of every color. Racial, etc etc.
In our community "hey man, why you got to be such a noob and die??" is normal communication for us. Its not toxic, its not bad. Thats how we communicate. Like brothers who dog on each other but you know they care.
Give out a GG, try to have fun with the attack. When you make it personal or try to tell them that their way of playing is evil or bad, or they somehow inconvenienced you, they'll just sink you and push your buttons.
Example :
There was a brig I was chasing in a sloop. Grade 5 Athena, did a theives haven run. Chased this thing for a LONG time. Finally sank it. Killed the enemy. They talked major trash about me greifing PvE Players. Before I caught them I started to taunt them because they were just being so mad on the mic when I didn't even say anything at first. They started it.
After getting them REALLY mad, they made a mistake and I caught them and sank them.
However, 1 member on that crew was relatively new to the game. He swam up and said "GG guys, we sank and that sucks but you caught us. Sorry about my mates and how they were acting." - Told him why would they act that way and get mad being attacked?? - He replied with "Yeah they complain a lot of being attacked in this game but I got no problems with it, its part of the game. Probably my fault they sank though, I'm still learning the game."
I liked his attitude so I told him "well if they are still on the server let them know I'll let them keep the loot. I just wanted all the athena stuff and the flag. At least this way they get like 90% of their stuff." - He said they got off and left, so I told him I'll go ahead and separate it, put his stuff in a row boat and he can sell it.
Out of like maybe 50peices of loot there was only 6 peices of athena and the flag.
That happens a lot with us and other PvP'ers.
Another time we came up on a sloop and they were freaking out, when we killed them they just sighed into the mic and said something like "Well guys, we lost. GG though maybe next time." - They talked with us and had fun. At that time I just wanted their flag so I made a suggestion.
I suggested since I really ONLY wanted their flag, I would let them sell their loot. They asked how would they be able to do that since they knew I wouldn't let them anywhere near an outpost with the ship.
I told them that I would sail their boat with our ship trailing with a harpoon attached. We would load everything into a rowboat and they could sale at the outpost while we waited out in sea to sink their boat.
They said that would work, so we sailed over to plunder. Made sure to stay out of range of the outpost good and far. About half way from the outpost and the fort. They loaded the loot up and we waited on their boat. I anchored them, knocked down their mast and waited. They eventually came back, said thanks, we sank them and took their flag.
PvP'ers have a language. Its a trash talking language. It means nothing, just competitive banter. Like Muhammed Ali in his interviews, its part of the pizzaz. If you take it personally we are going to make it personal.
If you have fun with it and just give out the GG then who knows.
Just don't forget that PvE'ers are just as bad on mics to PvP'ers even when we didn't say anything.
Shoot a cannon "EFF YOU MOTHER EXPLETIVE EXPLETIVE EXPLETIVE, GO DIE YOU BLAH BLAH BLAH PVPERS ARE THE REASON NO ONE LIKES TO PLAY THIS GAME BLAH BLAH BLAH"
Think about the worst encounter you have ever gotten and just realize that it happens to us ALL the time.
