Hey friend.

Hello there,

Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

You are welcome!

I’ve tried to get better at the combat but it is very slow moving since a lot of the combat as of now is spawn killing on the boat. It definitely sets the curve extremely high and shows how far it has come since the Beta.

Yes, well keep it up. The path to glory is beset by stones in the road, or in our case, mines in the sea. I have had similar experiences too, but since I have little control once a ship has set upon me and boarded, I see them as opportunities for feedback and to improve, rather than any indication of failure. I think Bo Didley once said "Don't trust no one but yo momma, even then look at her real good." :)

I consider foul language and expletives “rude” as I feel everyone else would.

I see. I suppose the issue is that it is a subjective matter. For me, expletives are not rude per se and I am sure we can agree that pirates probably used them extensively, in the same way you would find this in other working class/military places. In fact I would say it is very normal in this regard from experience.

I also suppose it is a matter of context and where the language is directed. But someone calling me a rude word means nothing to me. I will not be offended personally, but understand others will be.

And nothing really says “Come try again” much like someone screaming “you fight like a b****”, “how’s it feel? Haha look you’re dead again!” It just makes the game harder to play.

Personally, I would be fine with that and take it that the person speaking is merely in character and may even be doing so to increase both his and your own immersion.

You would think people doing the reaper event would mainly go after the ships with a flag but I’ve not raised a single emissary since the event started and I still get sunk and chased.

I think a lot of people play the game just to hunt other players and that this is fine. They may also not realise that you have no loot on board.

I’ve played the game fore a long time and I enjoy the story line, Tall Tales, and helping the new players when they first get started but I’ll be darned if this particular event hasn’t made it a little on the difficult side.

I understand it is rocking the boat a bit for you. But I am sure a seasoned sailor like yourself bring a lot of value to the server being as you help others out. All I can really say is that this game really requires a balanced and sceptical mind to avoid being robbed all the time. You might just be too trusting, but I understand that to be distrusting and sceptical of everyone means you tend to sail alone more often - hence why it is normally just me out there hehe and that way I have lower feelings of responsibility for others as I am alone and do not have to feel the need to protect others.

That all said, if the other person makes it clear they are friendly, I can generally tell - but not always, and I will be friendly in return, but I tend to let the other person choose if there will be hostilities or not and if it is unclear, I will engage if they get too close.

Good luck out there mate.

Cheers

at First you're right! I havn't thought about that! Yes you can scuttle your Ship this is true!

Yes there where such Pirates but Like in every society they where pirates who aren't right in the head... Since the Event is up everyone is just Killing each other (and you don't wan't to say they are all a bit gone in the head do you? ;))

Haha. Well at least you have a sense of humour to carry you through the madness. Although I would argue that all pirates had inclinations to be deviant lol.

The most people i have met yet havn't killed me for glory, they Killed me for pure bloodlust... I personally don't Support that but Cheers, everyone Like He wants....

Yes, and while I wouldn't necessarily do that or try to kill others just for the sake of it - I play every game expecting it and am very distrusting of others. :)

The Point i want to make is that since this Event is up, bloodlust kills have increased, and that this Rips the fun out of this Game for people like me... Before that it was in my opinion a better Game with a friendlier Environment...

I read another post saying he was starting a Navy. Perhaps you should join it and police the waves as best you can. Perhaps that way, when you are killed, you will feel like it had more of a purpose. In fact I think it was this very thread:

@gobbelgobbel said in The Reaper event is bad for the community.:
When I read about the event first I was already afraid that it would turn out like this. We as Sailors have to organise ourselves against this new threat. I want to start the Navy of the Sea of Thieves. I ride around with the merchant ship haul and white sails telling People I run into that they can join my alliance as freeboaters and if they get attacked by filthy reapers they should find our Ship on their Map and drag the Reaper ship towards us. We will help. And I want to ask all of my fellow Legends who agree with this post to do as we do. Put up the signature colours of the Navy (white and Blue) and assist Players in their fights against the reapers.I hope that we can bring freedom, justice and security to our new Empire.

So ist is bad for the Part of the Community i am in! ;)

To the last Part, since i reached Legend i mostly just fish, hunt and relax yeah! No i have no Bad luck, i have Always met many people in this Game while i fish and hunt but before that Event they mostly didn't kill me on sight...

Be careful out their ship mate.

Hi,

Hi Charon,

i am sorry to inform you that Spawn Camping while keeping the Ship floating is actually toxic behavior because you force them to quit to get out of it! It is never intended that a Player has to quit by any Game!

I'm not so sure that is true, because you can simply scuttle the ship? If you have been boarded and are getting spawn killed = you have lost and your ship is gone.

Non of us here said that we don't like PvP, WE wouldn't play this game if that would be the Case! I could definetely stand my own against many other Players!

Yes that is fair, but there is a corelating pattern emerging here that tends to be a distaste and taking of offence in regards to PvP.

The Problem is that Events like this make people in this game actually hostile and paranoid and bring this game to the Point where we have to rename it from sea of thieves to sea of killers! No pirate would kill anyone that has nothing!

Pirates did kill at random actually, there own crews too.

If you have no Treasure and no flag then you should be uninteresting and left alone!

You should, but some players kill for glory - which is perfectly acceptable.

But this isn't the Case! Instead you are attacked and sunk and then respawn miles away from your target for no reason!
Yes, nothing wrong with that mate, sorry, but there just isn't. Please remember that I am a solo player for the most part and am just as vulnerable to players as you are.

Fish is uninteresting for Reapers because no one takes it but when my Ship sinks it is lost forever and all progress i made is gone! I didn't even have a Chance to get it Back because they didn't took it!
Maybe they are vegan reapers? Fishing is boring. :)
And since this Event is up i can't even catch 5 Fishes before i get attacked and in Most Cases sunk because of the pure Manpower of a gally! I Play this game Long enough now but it was never so hostile and there was never so much toxic talking.

Oh you are a fisherman, sorry lol. But seriously, I have sailed around plenty recently and hardly seen anyone. In fact a reaper brig sailed very close to me and went about his business. Could it just be that you have a bit of bad luck?

Hi,

I wonder please, what great damage has it caused? If it is "great" then I presuming you have a great amount of non anecdotal evidence to back this up?

One small issue though, "spawn camping port camping and generally killing other for nothing to gain on there part" - is completely allowed in the game. It isn't "toxic" it's just choices some people make in the game to partake in.

For me personally, I'm a solo slooper for the most part, so I try to avoid getting into trouble with full manned crews and I don't hang around ports or spawn camp, but I accept and consent to it being a possible outcome of any game session I begin. It has happened to me a while ago- and it happened because they were better at the game than me. I deserved it and it taught me a lesson as to how to better evade these situations.

This is just another thinly veiled "I don't like PvP" thread, which should be condemned to the eternal black hole megathread asap.

The game isn't dying either lol, or do you think games tend to win baftas as they die?

It’s quite fun to have epic naval battles. Can’t do that it real life.

There’s no reason toxic voice chat needs to be a part of that formula. I’ve had a great time. We sold 12 flags in one night, after a very fortunate server merge.

We play on Xbox so there’s way less communication in general with other ships. Party chat keeps everyone rather isolated in their own silos.

Put up the signature colours of the Navy (white and Blue) and assist Players in their fights against the reapers.

I hope that we can bring freedom, justice and security to our new Empire.

Hi,

Getting organised and thinking less of trying to change the game and more about changing the way we play to deal with the issues we see. That is a great attitude to have actually. I respect this pragmatic approach, perhaps you should set up a discord or reddit page as a central hub to attempt to consolidate a Navy and report on sessions/ships to look out for (with evidence of course).

Not something I would join, but I much prefer to see this transcendence of perceived PvP issues rather than the constant whining we see on the megathread.

Good luck with it.

@galactic-geek That is exactly what they did. We had to pair up with a galleon crew just to try and recover some enjoyment out the session by catching some Battlegills at a fort but the brig pelted us with holes, kept one open and just let us constantly sink without sinking just so we wouldn't respawn at an island

Hi,

I found it odd that you had to note your friend as being "autistic". I know people who are autistic, but I don't see any reason to point that out to others like it is anyone else's business.

But anyway, what you describe is absolutely fine within the game. Getting pelted with cannon balls and getting sunk - all good stuff. Good for you on teaming up, so you show you have options, it just didn't work out for you.

It also doesn't help when you get multiple recordings of them and their language, file a report only to then be told there isn't enough evidence so we should just carry on as normal

Well you are being told there isn't enough evidence because...well there isn't enough evidence. If there was then they would act on it. Remember, what you present needs to be reportable solid stuff as it is going to be used to potentially ban someone else.

Imagine if I just reported you and said "this guy is being rude and I want him banned!" - then you too would rely on the evidence to prove you are actually innocent.

But you are reporting people for just playing the game as it was intended to be played. Either that or what you are presenting them with isn't actually as bad as you are making out and the decision makers just aren't telling you that.

Just get out there with your mate and get some revenge. Also, you might now be able to call in the navy hehe. Good luck.

I personally have been kind of irritated to say the least. I have flown no emissary flag because I was trying to finish the glitterbeard journal hunt and had a sloop follow me from place to place. They had no reaper flag, I had no flag and they were very rude on the In Game chat. I told them they could have what I found and that I just didn’t want to lose progress but they said “need the flag bro sorry.”

Hi,

Well at least they said sorry. Them being rude is hard to gauge with no evidence.

And then decided that they wanted to call me several unkind names.

Depending on what they said, (what is rude differs from person to person) - simply being rude is not really against the rules as they are pirates and might be in character. I like to be polite to everyone in game, but never expect it back.

Can’t we just decide on a flag to fly for people who are only doing Tall Tales and Adventure Quests? I’m tired of having someone chase me down, spawn camp so that my ship sinks, and then scream at me through game chat for them to literally gain nothing.

Having a flag will probably do the opposite and attract more people to attack you. I also find it hard to believe that they are doing the screaming after sinking you, most likely the other way around. They may also be doing it for the glory mate, what they gain is up to them, not you. They may also think you have loot.

I have scuttled ships to get away, I’ve jumped servers but I always seem to end up with someone chasing me down and repeating the torment.

Yeah well keep doing that. Or fight.

I’m an adventure gamer and I will do PvP but I’m not very good at it. Makes the game a big waste of time until the Reapers event is over and the blood from the water settles.

The more you do something, the better you get at it. If you make a choice not to get better at any particular aspect within an all encompassing shared pirate game - then the only person you can blame for your lack of being able to defend yourself is you.

I don't get this logic of buying a pirate game and then trying to be a pacifist. If you really want to do well at the game, then you should be able to defend yourself.

Cheers

Me and my Mate mostly Duo Sloop and are mostly Just hunting or fishing (Hunters by Heart) but since the Event started every Ship and Crew ist Just hostile and only hostile towards you, even though when you are just anchored and obviously just fish! We didn't even have an emissary flag or anything valuable that attract oponents we Just get attacked for nothing! They didn't even Take the Fishes! And these Cases increase since the Event is Up! I know it is Part of the Game to Fight for the Treasure, but they didn't even take our Kind of Treasure and we Just lose our progress! It's called Sea of THIEVES, not sea of Warriors! And Events like this Break the Community apart and make everyone just hostile towards each other! The Festival of Fishing was a great Addition where so many people came together to just fish and Talk, and i really enjoyed myself in these days! I know that not everyone likes this but when someone hasn't anything valuable for you then Stop ruining theyre day and Just find someone who has what you want! Events like this just make the sometimes very hostile Community even more hostile and paranoid.
