So we have two “modes” I’d say. Arena and Adventure. Arena is focused solely on PvP (or it tries to at least) and Arena is a nice blend
But it’s see calls for a PvE servers/private servers a lot. Now we know this isn’t possible or fair. But perhaps a nice middle ground would be a third mode with the intention of Co-op missions.
Here’s how it would work in my mind:
Duke needs help with major threats to the Sea of Thieves that cannot be ignored. He wants to recruit as many people as he can to face these threats.
A new faction would be created, perhaps “Guardians”. Much like Sea Dogs, this would be limited to the co-op mode.
After matchmaking is completed, you’d spawn in the Bilge Rats Hideout, similar to the Arena. Once the mission starts, that’s when the fun begins
Each ship is given a specific mission or item to find. Once each ship has completed their quest on the allotted time, they may move on to the next step.
Everyone brings their item to the “center” of the play area. This starts a fun boss battle. Perhaps a huge ghost fleet, powerful skeleton fleet, resilient megalodon, or even new bosses (ahem Cthulhu). Once the boss is killed, it counts as a victory
Of course, there needs to be chances of failure. Perhaps only allowing for a specific time limit or a certain amount of ship respawns before it fails?
Of course, to prevent “cheese” as some would say, there would be no typical loot. Instead gold is awarded based upon the remaining time, lives, and mission completion
I feel this would be a good way to appease those who want private servers while also not giving them access to leveling up the other factions!
