@saynt-sorrows sagte in Why I quit SoT:
@stundorn
- Do you think that a lack of consequence is good for the game? If so, why? And, if you do think so, what do you think about the ways in which SoT does not fit that paradigm?
I dont have the time and will to grind for beeing competetive anymore and if you have that sort of item- and vertical progression, the 24/7 players just rule everything, the crafting, the economy, the regions, the farmspots, the PvP, but i'm ambitious casual at best and i played some open PvP full loot games the last years as they are the best to immerse for me. Dying and losing my loot even if it is only cosmetics is enough consequence for me and its good that it is a small consequence. I have rather everything and still millions to spend.
As someone who played as a PK in some games i can deal with many disadvantages.
SoT has to less for pure PvP / PK playstyle , but thats another story.
I like the even playingfield and that skill and experience is the only thing that makes you good. I'm mediocre at having skill maybe , but i'm above average about knowledge of the map, the world etc. and can compensate a lot also with my mindset at least when playing solo. And i mostly play Galleone with the crew.
To me it was or still is the perfect game, except the exploits we have, but Community is not, because Rare allows to much cheesing, exploits etc... and while having a good gamedesign and intend how to play the game , at least what i think as a Founder playing since alpha , their main audience always disagreed and they let them circumvent and cheese it up to today and create rather unintended playstyles , but this is what sells on Twitch and YT .
I can elaborate that more , but well.. . :-)
- I personally only need the sails to be fixed, and tacking to be geometrically rewarded over sailing into irons. I think that if you try to add more than that, you risk solo-slooping getting too nerf.
My stance about soloing, what i like to do sometimes and did before they adjusted AI world encounters and made them easier is way more unforgiving to encourage players to crew up.
Rare again want to please everyone and made solo slooping easier, in early Alpha it wasnt even possible and not the plan to do it.
Only because many cried and wanted it they allowed it afair.
And then they cried too hard and the Game was Made easier and easier in general and for soloing especially.
- Double-gunning has some serious drawbacks to it, aside from the hit reg. You can punish that if you have a cutlass. I should note that swords also get hit regged all the time. It's just more obvious with guns.
To me this is a Pirate Adventure Game, if you ask me this is more of a roleplay game than anything else, a Sandbox to immerse and do PvE mainly but have it all contested and PvP allways possible, but also easy to circumvent it avoid, so no hardcore PvP Sandbox at all.
But there is barely any roleplayers or people who like the random aspects of these Game or understand how PvE and PvP are knit together. They cheese and exploit the Game in favor of their PvX only playstyles , Thats the Main Problem and that Rare let them do it.
But Else they wont ve that succesfull and it would have flopped maybe or become a niche Game at max.
Gamers of today see 1st Person and a gun and tell you its an FPS PvP only Game :-)
Or that because its a Pirate Game with Thieves in the Name its is Seaof Murder Hobo and that exploits Like Animation cancels is Skill and Not Cheat/ exploit.
Well i actually laugh at it , but i also paused the Game because of this audience for some weeks , but most of the time i can deal with all of this pretty well and Login, immerse and have some fun.
