" Whispers " : Psst , Mr Stundorn...MR STUNDORN , over here ... Yo, my dear Pirate , what does DG mean ? We aren't all English originated , and this old , useless Pirate simply doesn't understand abbreviations...

  • @clumsy-george

Stundorn turns around, squints his eyes to find the origin of that whisper.
You know, i'm and "old" man from germany, i also needed to learn a lot of new words and abberations.

DG means having two guns, in short double gunning and focussing on shooting instead to swing a cutlass.
And TDM means Team Death Match, i heared some weird pirates meet at forts when they arent active to shoot each other over and over.
Idk if they have some extra contract or relation to the ferryman or if they are only trying to finally die or if they are just lemmings who ssem to like to die too often.
But these riflemen who often claim to be very good at pirate versus pirate combat may rely on external help in form of a crosshair that is not available for everyone.

have a nice day George, happy and lucky fishing.
    yours Bill / Stundorn 0/

D'Oh, of course , Double Gun... Jesus , i'm getting old , thanks for the explenation , Mr Stundorn .

Any kind of crosshair is forbidden by Rare. We've already had this discussion in the past...

And what is the point of this poll anyway? What kind of a trick is this? It's like asking someone to admit if he's using a hack or not. Of course he will say "NO" even if he does...

  • you don't need a software/mouse driven crosshair you can put a very small physical sticker your screen indicating your center of view....
you can also add ones for the various guns hit points when not 'aiming' before pulling the trigger.

  • @leftypirate99 Lol didn't think about that. Wouldn't glue destroy monitor eventually ? or embedded itself.
However I can see how stickers would be helpful.

  • Let's be honest especially the PvP focussed Players running DG or even TDM in Arena.

I've never met a single Pc user that actually uses monitor crosshairs. It really isn't hard to know where center lies on the screen, you just build a feeling for it over time. Most double gunning happens on a ship, so that means rather close quarters, that is hardly much distance to make the hitbox smaller on a player. Pre-EoR hip-fire nerf, I could do it with ease.

Just to reiterate if this is what is intended here, these crosshairs are hardly worth noting or worrying about.

  • I use physical crosshairs that embed themselves into my TV screen...

    ...They're called my eyeballs.

Not quite sure if I want to risk expensive monitor or TV with cheap glue. However, I am surprised nobody had argued about banning people with stickers on their TVs/monitors. Usually this forum wants to ban everything.

Actually, as I mentioned above, any kind of crosshair (including dot on your monitor/TV) IS indeed bannable, officially confirmed by Rare.

I'm not sure if this thread should even exist. Don't think 'friendly' discussion over bannable use should be allowed.

Maybe the @Deckhands would like to have a look?

LoL, Banning people over the sticker would be just a next level of ....<insert appropriate word here> .

    Considering Rare's record so far:

Would that Surprise me - No,
Would that be disappointing - Yes

We can't get simple things fixed in the game after 3 years, but people monitor stickers would take priority?

Why other Microsoft games seem to have no issues but Rare's games seem to be a constant struggle?

  • @jadescissors32 I guess those people have good enough critical-thinking ability to realize: you won't be able to know if someone is playing with tape on their monitor.

  • @thagoochiestman Or maybe Rare's inability to address most simplest deficiencies in the game is causing frustration in players.
Rare can easily add cross-hair every-time you pull out weapon or a bucket, so when you trying to bucket in sloop you are not bucketing barrel.
DOOM Eternal has cross-hair, why not SoT?

We're pirates - we have crossbones, not cross-hairs.

Immersion breaking, isn't having not too much of a UI on the screen one of the core things of the game ?

  • @lem0n-curry You can easily solve "Immersion breaking" by making it optional like in every other game .
Lack of development should not be substituted with all kind of bans.
Gaming business is repeated customer, very hard to have repeated customers if your solution to everything is a ban.
I wrote this before but I will repeat:
Rare's handling of all, reflects badly on Microsoft Gaming services.

As Microsoft Gaming services are trying to compete with PS Plus/ PS Now. This is something they can't afford.
I like SoT as the game but all the bugs/problems/drama is having are making me unlikely to purchase another game made by Rare.
Its like with Cars, you can buy car that is pleasure to drive when it runs, but if you have constant issues you are not likely to buy from that manufacturer again.

  • @nabberwar

I got aware of it because people said to me they use it and it makes aiming/quickscoping much easier.

I also knew the spot of my EoR before ADS.

Didnt want to make a drama of it , just wanted to ask around and see if some are honest enough to say it if they use it.
Some answers are childisch already , sounds as if they feel attacked :-)

    @JadeScissors32
Nobody want to ban someone using their hardware to full potetntial, except makros maybe.

We all know some gamers use all and everything they can to win.
    It's OK!

No Drama intended , just a simple question who has it and who uses it.

People saying its not a slight advantage seem a litle bit dishonest or want to play it down.

It is what it is a hardware advantage in a game without a crosshair.

  • Or maybe players that spend time practicing their skills by tdming and get to a level that is Neigh unachievable for some. Actually are just good at the game and not cheating.

Although I do agree it is an advantage even if it can be talked up a little bit. Although It is not that difficult to tell where the center of the screen is. Especially considering this game doesn't require the most precision.

  • @jadescissors32 lol I was responding to this comment:

But I agree: there's a lot of features that seems like "no-brainers" that Rare should include, but they just don't. And considering everything that was mentioned in their new update video it doesn't even seem like the actual game is Rare's biggest SoT focus at the moment..

    Oh, please do tell...

  • @galactic-geek Lol I've been around for a little bit, so I know that you're active around these forums.

There have been countless features that have been suggested on these forums multiple times (some of which you've even commented on) but yet they've never been added, nor has there been any word from Rare about which feedback they're actually considering.

Here's the one that leaves me scratching my head the most (especially after those recent cosmetics were introduced):

    • Why is there no ice area to act as a bookend to the Devil's Roar?

I do believe Rare already answered that 1...

    NEXT!

  • @galactic-geek What was the answer? Tbh I don't remember ever hearing (about) it.

As for others examples: there have been many ideas that would be greatly enjoyed by the community as well as new players but I also know some/a lot of those aren't your cup of tea (again, I've been around here awhile).

I would just hate to see this game die because Rare did nothing to target a larger audience than its base of core-pirates; and it's not like Microsoft has a very good track record when it comes to either:

    • Exercising patience for products, and/or
    • Making decisions that don't anger their loyal users/customers.

So I fear those habits will (unfortunately) trickle down to Xbox as they begin to transition Game Pass into much more of a market-leading service.

  • @jadescissors32

LoL, Banning people over the sticker would be just a next level of ....<insert appropriate word here> .

What is your suggestion to treating people who purposly violate official rules then? Bake them a pink cake with a blue "pls don't" sign on it? Maybe add some sparkles and butterflies? Oh, and let's not forget the party baloons!!

Come on brother, let's get a bit more serious here...

    Considering Rare's record so far:

What are you even talking about? I play this game for 2+ years, and yes Rare could do better on some fronts, but overal, they've done A DARN GOOD JOB!

Or maybe Rare's inability to address most simplest deficiencies in the game is causing frustration in players.

Rare can easily add cross-hair every-time you pull out weapon or a bucket, so when you trying to bucket in sloop you are not bucketing barrel.

DOOM Eternal has cross-hair, why not SoT? SoT?eople want this or that.

It's not about ability, it's about desin. SoT is not meant to have a cross-hair, and that's the ONLY reason it doesn't have one!

You can easily solve "Immersion breaking" by making it optional like in every other game .

Again, SoT is not meant to have a cross-hair, making it “optional” will only contradict with the actual game design.

Lack of development should not be substituted with all kind of bans.

Correct, however, violating the rules should.

Rare's handling of all, reflects badly on Microsoft Gaming services.

Again: I’ve no clue as to what you’re talking about.

I like SoT as the game but all the bugs/problems/drama is having are making me unlikely to purchase another game made by Rare.
Its like with Cars, you can buy car that is pleasure to drive when it runs, but if you have constant issues you are not likely to buy from that manufacturer again.

    Personal opinion…

    @ThaGoochiestMan

I guess those people have good enough critical-thinking ability to realize: you won't be able to know if someone is playing with tape on their monitor.

It's not about being able to tell if someone is violating the rules or not. Violation is violation, simple as that.

If you're secretly using drugs (or anything else that's illegal) authorities maybe won't catch you. But does that make it alright? Of course not, you're still in violation with the rules!

But I agree: there's a lot of features that seems like "no-brainers" that Rare should include, but they just don't. And considering everything that was mentioned in their new update video it doesn't even seem like the actual game is Rare's biggest SoT focus at the moment..

After seeing how you failed to justify this standpoint to Geek, I shall not comment it at all.

Bugabooboo has me blocked but for everybody else:

Nobody want to ban someone using their hardware to full potetntial, except makros maybe.
We all know some gamers use all and everything they can to win.
    It's OK!

This is wrong! And definitely not “OK!”

Macros and artificial cross-hairs are advantages that can be provided by peripheral equipment (things outside of SoT) through 3rd party software. Thus, they are not allowed in the game.

Saying macros and cross-hairs is fairplay, just because you have them and can use them, is the same as saying hacks and aim-bots is also fairplay.

  • Ahoy there!

Modifying the game in anyway, using third-party software, hardware or anything else that gives you an advantage in-game that is not designed to be in the game goes directly against the Terms of Service that you agree to when purchasing, launching and playing Sea of Thieves.

    Community Standards
