This problem is well known among the Sea of Thieves community. That's when every time you shoot an enemy (player or entity) there is a big chance that you are going to get the hit mark for dealing damage to this object or enemy but the server doesn't record it.
That's probably server issue in the main part. That's why we have seen that the ship server cap was lowered. That maybe helped, because a server is mainly CPU and RAM and having to think for one less ship is helpful, but that's something that isn't good for the game experience for the players. Also, right now, the server ship cap i think can be increased and also the server performance, but that's not going to happen because of the support of Xbox One. If the server performance is increased and also the ship cap, Xbox One can't handle all the things that might happen in one big ship fight and the experience of this players is going to be really bad. Also Rare can't just say that they aren't going to support this console for future updates because this is going to kill the game for this console.
If that's the problem and increasing the server performance is going to help with the hit registration and with added bonus of additdaional ships, with the downside of not allowing Xbox One players to play i would suggest that:
- Adding a button for PC players and Xbox Series S/X to be able to play in better servers without Xbox One players. (There shoud be a warning that it requires good hardware for PC players for example)
- I know that will increase the cost of the Sea of Thieves servers but also it's not going to be that much because that way they can merge two servers into one. Only Rere can know how much is going to bring the cost up, because we don't know how much the current cost.
- If this is going to be a third banner for Big Adventure (with better servers) along with the two existing ones Adventure (with Xbox One players and the normal ship cap) and Arena or an option in the setting menu (like how xbox players can choose to play with xbox players only) , i am going to leave that to the community and Rare.
In conclusion i think this is going to help with a lot of issues like the hit registration and the ship cap in the servers but there is going to be an option for people who dont want a lot of PvP and want something more chill to choose to play on the smaller servers (the Adventure servers right now) with Xbox One players (if Rare adds the third banner for big servers). The better servers are going to be more PvP focused and a lot of players that like PvP will go there and will fix also the issue with the PvE servers. The players that want PvE servers are going to get PvP servers with less PvP hungry pirates, but that dosen't mean that the ship next to them is not going to try stealing the loot out of them.
