4v2 Excuse/Argument

  • A fellow crewmate posted something similar over on Facebook, so if this topic looks familiar, apologies. But I wanted to throw this on the Forum as well to discuss and gather thoughts.

My crew loves the PvP in this game. We love the unpredictability that fighting other crews provides in game. We love developing new strategies real-time in attempts to outwit and outplay our opponents.

Now to the topic... it has become more and more common for 2-Person Sloops to approach and attack our 4-Person Galleon. As noted, this I have no problem with as we love PvP. However, when we are sailing and they start trailing us, we quickly dispatch 1-4 pirates to drop anchors, wipe their crew, and generally sink their ship. In some instances, we are in the middle of some mission or planning to attack a public event and we just want to end the Sloop threat quickly so we can continue on our way. If this is the case we’ll send the whole crew off. Generally this is an overwhelming force and we quickly end the threat. What I don’t understand is the messages from the Sloop crew afterward with the argument or excuse including some form of “Need 4v2 to beat our little Sloop???” or “Trash Galley crew needs 4v2”

We have nothing against Sloop crews. They can be quite lethal on the Sea given a skilled crew. But why message the Galleon crew with this excuse? They chose to attack a 4-Person ship. Do they expect us to only use 2 of our crew to dispatch them just to keep the fight even? The Galleon is large, cumbersome, and obnoxious to turn around. And supplies for us are a precious commodity. If they want to fight a 4-Person ship, we have no problem with that, but we’ll fight on your ship.

It just seems like these 2-Person Sloops want us to fight them on their terms and then lean on the 4v2 or 3v2 excuse when we don’t. We’ve experienced this quite a bit lately. Any other Galleon crews receive these types of messages?

What you have found was the species called, salt-is pirate-is, aka the salty pirate.

Honestly, they are just trash talking mostly and being salty at the same time.

I used a row boat to kill a sloop the other day and they called me a camping expletive. I only camped them for 2 kills so I could get their ship close enough to the island so I can grab a keg to sink their boat. So there was NO camping done. Yet I was called a camper.

You guard ladders from boarders and they talk as if its the worst thing in the world "Trash players, all you do is ladder guard because you are trash" - Am I NOT suppose to guard my ladders?? Lord knows if they let them on they are going to be "HAH noobs don't even know how to guard your ladders!!"

Basically, pay no mind to trash talking. Just serves no logical purpose. Its just part of competing.

"Why can't we be nice about it??" - Who says they aren't being nice?? I've said some mean things to my friends when we used to play madden or CoD back in the day or even counter strike and they said the same things back except since we knew each other personally we knew we didn't mean it. Just friendly banter.

Maybe they meant being salty. Maybe they didn't. Maybe they wanted to be mean, maybe they didn't.

Just take it with a grain of salt. You won, they lost. Thats all thats important.

  • @xultanis-dragon Yep, we take it for what it is as trash talking or being salty. We all get a good chuckle out of it. That 4v2 message has been coming up a lot more frequently.

  • the trash talking seems to have got the response that they wanted......

  • I usually just get a 3 paragraph message about how lucky I am from server hoppers. Salty pvers loves to accuse others of cheating and toxicity and salty pvpers love to tell you how lucky you are and how bad you are

I don't subscribe to the popular modern philosophy of everyone needing to walk on eggshells and comply with whatever unrealistic expectations people set for interactions. I find it funny. People got upset who cares. Maybe they are a big pile of cringe or maybe they are just having a rough day or a rough time. It's just words during conflict. The Beatles and Elsa had it right. Let it be and let it go

Life and the seas are much more interesting when people get a little wild from time to time

  • Running list of reasons I lose:

    • Ez 4v2
    • Wow sword spam
    • Nice one-blundy
    • Wow ladder guard
    • Lucky kraken (or other PvE spawns)
    • Keg bot
    • Hitreg

I left out the possibility of me making a poor strategic decision, because I don't.

  • As this post alone proves...
"Hook-Line and Sinker." You were just fished and fell for the bait.

  • @clownpoison And that would be? Me posting and creating a discussion?

I’m not necessarily complaining. It’s more of a general wonderment why when Sloops attack Galleons and then trash talk, message or argue when the Galleon doesn’t PvP on the Sloops terms.

Actually, this could be expanded to when one crew (or Pirate) loses to another crew (or Pirate) and the resultant messages sling the excuses more or less along the lines that the winning crew didn’t PvP “correctly”.

We’ve received some pretty good ones: “Blunder Bot”, “Sword Spammer”, “Trash Galleon”, “Fight with a purpose cowards”, “4v2 or 3v2”, etc.

I think it would be good fun if one of these Pirates created a “Guide to Correctly PvP in SOT” just so that we are all aware of the correct etiquette and procedure. I guess we’ve been fighting incorrectly this whole time shrugs

  • @promotordj This is just how some people are. It expands all games. I have fought PvP match ups in other mix PvPvE games where the person started the fight with me and then when I started to kick their booty they proceed to tell me "dont use that weopon!", "take your armor off!" "lets go fight on this part of map!"(most likely part they have every spawn point memorized). Its ridiculous but some people are ridiculous. Some can not handle losing especially when they are the ones who started the fight.

The world of online gaming. Not much else to say.

  • @burnbacon I guess I don’t see it that way. We’ve received a lot of trash talking messages in our time. This one has just been coming up a lot lately.

Is it the Sloop Arena crews migrating over to Adventure so this type of trash-talk is becoming more prominent?

  • @combatxkitty Great point! Online gaming... it just comes with the territory.

  • Wherever there is tinterweb and microphones you will find village idiots, especially online gaming. I'm surprised you are surprised tbh!

  • @promotordj I can live with that talk , what I cant stand is the nasty foul mouth abuse by some squeeky irk whose only self worth is to swear at people online . Unfortunately it happens too often.
