Boarding Axe

  • Hello, I feel like it would be awesome to have boarding axe inside Sea of Thieves. When it comes to boarding in Sea of Thieves there isn't much you can do to keep the enemy sinking (Apart from anchoring and killing them) With the addition of a boarding axe it could be used to scale up the ship's walls to get onto the boat (making it unpredictable if they do use it). A player can also use the boarding axe to break down boarded up hole to make it easier for them to sink. If you think this too overpowered it can be made to have a cooldown or make it slow so you cant take all the hole down at once which will give the chance for the boarder being killed.

  • I think the ax will only be used in combat. Few people like to have his ship broken with an ax.

  • There is no reason to have a boarding axe that can remove planks as there are plenty of other ways to do this already. Hit them with cannons, drive them over a keg, or ram them into rocks.

  • I think this is a neat idea but would be better in a game with Vikings and longships. i think a grapple hook to swing from your sail would be a better boarding tool in this game.

I mean, I would appreciate a subtle method to put holes in. Ramming and beaching is about the only non-explosive method to deal damage. Fire isn't reliable in that sense, it takes too long to deal holes. Giving more options besides bringing the entire ship over seems like a much appreciated new tool. It doesn't have to be an axe, at least something.

  • @nabberwar I think the boarding meta already has a lot of advantages, namely that you can disrupt repair, prevent returning fire and kill players to remove them from play, that it doesn't really also need the ability to do additional damage to the ship.

  • @d3adst1ck I think it could work on both sides though. if it takes a while to pull a board off, say the same time that a level 3 hole would take to repair then it could give the boarder that chance to pull it off certainly but at the same time it would leave them vulnerable to just be shot in the back. this would be along the same as reviving someone would be, there is some give and take to it

  • I like the idea of a boarding axe being used as the dedicated "close range power" Melee weapon, similar to the Blunderbuss.

I don't think it needs to grant the user the ability to scale walls, but I do like the idea of the axe's charge-attack being able to break holes in a ship's hull. It wouldn't be as efficient as cannons or kegs, not by a long shot, but it would be an option.

  • Break holes in the ship? No.

...but damaging the ship components (mast, capstan, and wheel)? I don't see why not.

    Scaling walls? Definitely not.

  • You are aware this would boarding extremely powerfull and the meta. This would lead to few people actually bothing to use cannons/do naval combat as it would make it a lot easier to sink a ship without a ship. It would lead to sweaty players boarding you, killing you, switching to axe, makeing a few holes in your ship, switching back to double guns, then spawnkilling the ships crew again untill they sunk. Which wouldnt be very fun for the more casual crew.

  • @roboticbobio sagte in Boarding Axe:

There are , but you dont know or you dont like .
I sink ships without boarding at all.

  • With cannonballs being able to damage through ship walls, boarding via cannons, sword dashes, and funniest of all, harpoons, there's no shortage of ways to board a ship nowadays.

However, I do think one more possible boarding technique would go a long way, there's a reply on a post labeled "grappling hook" I made not too long ago, my personal recommendation for boarding tactic would be something along those lines.
