Enemy sound FX

  • Any time I play arena and I get boarded I cannot hear a single sound that the enemy makes outside of shooting a gun or using sword. I don't understand why the sound effects are so lacking, I feel like most of the time when I die from being boarded its just because I can't hear anything at all. Has anyone else had this issue? Rare please make it so its louder when anyone boards your ship, its really badly implemented right now. I have other things to do on a boat besides guarding the ladders constantly while in arena. Being able to hear anything at all would really be nice.

  • This is more of an individual problem sir. The audio is perfectly fine for me. For starters make sure your in game audio is turnt up. To do this simply just go to your audio settings and you can adjust your Music Volume, Shanty Volume, Player Chat Volume, SFX Volume, and Master Volume. Also, listen for sound cues such as ladder grabbing. You may be hearing players board and just don’t understand what your hearing. 1 more thing, make sure your headset/monitor/TV Volume is turnt up. If you do everything I’ve suggested, you shouldn’t have any problems. I can assure you there is nothing wrong with the way audio works in game at the moment.

  • @boogyghost101 But do character footsteps even make any sound? I don't hear anything when pirates are running around.

  • @burglebutt if they are wearing footwear yes, if they arent then no

people are taking off their peg legs and boots so that's why you don't hear it

  • That's sad for me, so the only way to hear people is them climbing up the ladder which I can't seem to hear even with my volume loud 0_o

  • So I think it would be good for this sounds to have a setting in Accessibility. That way people with hearing problems can have visual notification of mermaids, footsteps and boarders.

  • @burglebutt Character footsteps don’t make sounds unless they are wearing any type of in game footwear cosmetics, and the sound even from those is difficult to hear in general. It’s not a problem because it’s not like anyone has advantages over you considering nobody can hear footsteps and plunder then their volume allows it. If your having trouble hearing people in the ladders and mermaids, there is something wrong on your end because for me it’s perfectly fine and my volume isn’t even on max.

  • As someone who is hearing-impaired, I wholly support accessibility here. I too have not often heard the splash that often comes with a pirate boarder grabbing my ladder - and that's with all of my volume settings set to the max.

I think that it's working, but that we don't often hear it for 2 potential reasons.

    1. I was once told that if you are not moving as a ship sails by, and grab the ladder, it won't make a sound. I haven't tested this to see if it's true though.

    2. It's entirely possible that the sound is either drowned out by louder sounds, like cannon fire, but still plays if you listen carefully, or it is completely muted altogether as a result of such loud sounds overriding it.

Personally, I think it may be the latter. I have watched a pirate swim to my boat while I was sailing. Not hearing anything, I assumed he missed the ladder and got stabbed in the back for it.

Regardless of how this issue occurs, it is an issue, because it does occur, and as such, it should be addressed in one way or another.

Also, I think footsteps should he the same volume across the board regardless of cosmetic footwear.

  • I agree all footsteps shpuld make sounds.

  • I've only had it a few times myself but that was because the sound of a cannon firing tends to shroud that of a player going up a ladder, there's also a technique vastly used by players in the PvP community called "silent boarding".
My advice would either be to listen for sharks and players swimming, both of which can easily be heard even when in battle, also listening and looking out for mermaids which can be done with ease, yet again.

I also recommend taking a look at your audio settings for both ingame and headset if at all possible.

    Kind Regards,
    -SeeDeath.
