Sell/change ship during gameplay

  • If you play 2 players on a sloop and another friend wants to join, you just have to start all over again. Emissary, storage treasure chests and more. How about beeing able to uppgrade your ship in the harbor for such occasions? Sloop - brigg - galley, where the old ship is replaced, and all the loot and progress is transfered to the new ship? Quite easy programming for you to do and very welcome feature.

And since the whole game isaboit endlessly grinding things for gold.. Why not be able to sell your ship when you log out? A small coin for every cannonball, piece of wood and piece of food you so badly spent time on gathering.

Unfortunately would get cheesed. Everyone would swap out for a Galleon and invite their mates just before turn in.

  • @wagstr I don't think that really matters, you can already do this by inviting players to empty crew spots. I think being able to continue a session without starting over would be a player quality of life benefit.

I'm sure this is on Rare's radar, but it ties into the matchmaking and party systems which would need to be changed to support dynamic crew size changes first.

  • @d3adst1ck

But you don't have many empty crew spots usually though, this would allow sloops to turn into galleons which is a bit OP...

  • @wagstr Not really. The switch shouldn't be instant - just follow the scuttle protocol. Old ship sinks, new ship spawns in place. Then don't carry over the supplies - if the crew wants to do this beforehand, they have to do it manually which takes more time.

The end result is no different than if a galleon spawned on that server with a new crew.

  • @d3adst1ck

It is if they are five minutes away from cashing in a theener... I think it works the way it does as intended.

  • @wagstr If they're at an outpost, they don't need to change ship sizes to do that?

If they want to add 2 people people to the crew to get credit for cashing that in and want to sit at the outpost with an Athena in hand waiting for the switchover to complete, I don't have a problem with that.

  • “Quite easy”
If it was, would of been done already. It not that simple with how servers work

    Picture this.
Chasing a sloop. They got distance but they are heading for a outpost, clearly they finished a fort and they won’t sell everything quickly. Suddenly as they stop at the outpost and you arrive, pop Galleon and two players added.

Sure it be “surprise” but silly to see this happen and frankly. Ugh

  • @wagstr ah.. Didn't think on that. But what if the ship it self Didn't earn gold, just the exess loot you've collected? That mening, everything above the start resources on the ship. Since the only 2 Options aviable for that cargo is to let it sink with your ship when you logg out or put it in a storage crate for some Lucky pirate

  • @burnbacon i believed there could be certain rules to this change, wich is why all your suggestions, inputs and thoughts are of high value for a good outcome if Rare likes the ideas 😊

  • You're also forgetting about server ship and crew limitations. Leaving spots open to grow the crew and ship could potentially prevent other ships and crews from joining that server, which means fewer pirate-based encounters, and therefore, less fun and excitement.

Isn't the server limit about the amount of ships rather than players?
I like the idea but if Rare decides that letting you keep your emissary, supplies, etc. is too much, I'd still want to have the ability to swtich ships in-game without having to re-log and all that.

The idea about selling your ship seems pointless unlesss you'll also need to pay to get it in the firs place.

  • @ahlahumus I believe its 24 players to a server, so 6 galleons

  • Alrighty if you say so

  • Ahoy!

So I agree with the first part about how you should be able to change your ship type during your game. I can't tell you how annoying it is especially on console, to have to load out and back into the game for a friend to join. It honestly takes like 10 minutes of load time, not to mention stocking up again.

Now for the selling ship option, I feel that people would kind of cheat this by selling the materials they spawn with? Maybe it only counts for the materials you picked up? I do feel it is a good idea overall though.

  • This has been proposed many, many, many times before.

The official word, from Rare, is that it is just "too hard". The way Sea of Thieves has been built, and the way matchmaking works, it simply cannot be implemented easily.

While people have asked for it many times, the effort to implement vs. payoff has never put this anywhere near the top of Rare's list of priorities.
