Please Fix Kraken Loot

  • The loot from the kraken really should just drop all at once. It's nearly impossible to grab during the fight and once the fight is over it's all despawned. I think I've fought the kraken maybe half a dozen times and not gotten more than a few chests out of it.

It's not even that hard of a boss fight, it's just time consuming and I really wish that it was worth to even consider. Sucks that at most cost effective strategy for the Kraken is just turning around.

Its not, its just something you get the hang of with time. We even have the harpoon to get loot without even leaving the ship. Just give it time, at some point you will understand when to go for the loot and when to stay on ship. Your crew can quite easily manage things while them or you go gather.

  • Nearly impossible is definitely an over exaggeration but the vast majority of it gets sent straight the bottom of the sea.

Anyways, my failing to grab said loot is certainly something I can get better at. However, the point is that as it currently stands the reward for fighting the Kraken is not worth the time or risk to get better at. The low end reward for success is that you receive a single tentacles worth of loot for your efforts after the fight which stands in stark contrast to basically every other boss fight and world event which saves it's biggest payout for the end.

Defeating the Kraken, the 'big boss fight' of the game (while not exceptionally hard) is something that shouldn't gatekeep it's rewards like that.

I do think that tentacles should still drop a majority of the loot, those that are skilled enough to weave their way in and out of the fight while grabbing anything they can should be rewarded, but at least let defeating the kraken leave more than a scant few pieces for those not yet skilled enough to do so. It's not like it leaves behind that much loot in the first place even if you do nab everything you can

  • @awyrlas its not the "big boss" its merely an encounter. For the sloop kraken ita gotten a easy it took me and my mate 30 seconds to kill the other day.

You can collect the loot if you want.

  • It does kind of seem like an oversight. There is no good reason to keep it the way it is. People here just love pooping on everything and saying “git gud.”

  • @puggins7318 the kraken fight requires minimal skill, getting the loot requires more effort.

Good grief. It's not an oversight, it's the way Rare designed it. Yes, there are some reasons to keep it the way it is. No, people aren't just "pooping on everything." Please.

Reasons for keeping kraken loot distribution the way it is.

    1. It makes logical sense. In this game, you never actually kill a kraken. The best you can hope for is to fight it off by killing(?) enough tentacles that it loses interest. The loot that pops up from an encounter comes from the tentacles. Presumably the loot was inadvertently sucked up while attacking previous victims.

    2. Loot collection is an intended part of the challenge. Let's face it, the mighty kraken isn't all that mighty. But when you add other tasks in addition to fighting the beast, things get more interesting. The loot isn't meant to just pop up in a big heap like other PvE encounters. It's meant to be provide challenge.

    There you have it.

  • @captain-coel

The challenge should be fighting the Kraken, not getting the reward.

It kinda sucks that every Kraken fight needs to be over in less than 5 minutes lest your loot dissappears.

  • @genuine-heather No, I do not believe they were designing the encounter and said, “But the real challenges will be getting the loot before it disappears!”

That is a stupid idea, and they never had it.

  • You need to be glad there is any loot at all. Initially you got nothing for beating it AND it was about 3x as hard as it is today.

I'd say if you want changes to having a big loot pile equal to events like a skeleton fleet, then they need to dial up the difficulty back up to about 1-2 years ago instead of these tentacles which are equal to a standard ghost ship in terms of difficulty. The problem then is most crews will go back to complaining that they are "always repairing" or "get sunk too fast."

You're being disingenuous. I didn't say collecting loot was the "real" challenge. I said it was part of the challenge. It's obvious this was intended by the developers, rendering your last little gibe rather self-defeating. To wit, it's not a stupid idea, and Rare evidently had it because that is precisely what they designed.

5 minutes ? Do you rotate tentacles when you attack it or use flintlock ? A Kraken fight on a solo-sloop takes a minute or two max, maybe longer when you end up in one of her tentacles. Pull up sails, get canon balls and fire at one then another tentacle, get more canon balls and fire at yet another tentacle, perhaps switching to one that grabs your sloop in between. Result: the kraken goes under.

It does seem lately that the loot spawns further away than before though.

  • Krakens can be speed 'killed' very quickly, definitely before any of the loot sinks (yes, even on a galleon, AND YES, even on a solo sloop). So you can either do that and grab your loot OR take it nice and slow and enjoy every second of it, while occasionally hopping off to grab your pieces of loot.

And yes @Puggins7318 , anybody having any kind of probems with kraken fights is the perfect person to be given as "git gut" example.

  • @awyrlas loot despawns after 10-15 minutes in the water...so it shouldn't be a problem at all to get all the stuff, because it doesn't take that long to defeat it..

  • Loot despawns in 5 minutes on the open seas. It lasts longer if it touches the ground underwater, but since the kraken doesn't spawn near islands, you're on a 5 minute timer.

The kraken is easy but it definitely takes longer than 1-2 minutes. Between taking shots, occasional repairs and making your way over to treasure, it definitely rides the 5-10 minute range.

I'm not even saying that I think tentacles shouldn't drop loot, or that the Kraken should be easier, just that defeating the kraken should at least drop a fair amount right at the end. It just sucks to finish a kraken fight and get maybe 1-3 pieces of loot for your troubles.

  • Ok so I did say that I think the loot should drop all at once, but I'd like to amend that because its rewarding to grab loot from tentacles and I wouldn't want to take away that part of the challenge in fighting the kraken. Players who can grab every piece of loot during the fight should be rewarded for their efforts.

  • I like the old days when the kraken was more difficult and didn't even drop loot. I understand why they changed it, players were just turning around instead of fighting it, but I enjoyed the fight more. My point is if you're just playing the game as a loot collector you might be disappointed.

Like @Genuine-Heather said, it makes sense lore-wise for it to drop from each tentacle.

  • @BadRobott

Honestly I wish I had been around for that. A more difficult Kraken sounds awesome, though if it had dropped loot that would have been even better.

I know loot isn't totally necessary, but it is par for the rewards in this game and it's part of the feedback loop that keeps you playing longer and feeling accomplished when you cash out.

It would be really cool to have the tentacles drop 0-2 pieces of loot and a piece of kraken meat, while finishing the encounter awards 3-8 pieces of loot at the center of the ink pool as if it coughed up some treasure before running away.

The amount of loot would be roughly the same, but the average low end is way higher and it would still reward coordinated crews for killing it quickly.
