This is specifically for XBox/controller users but might be helpful for others. I use a normal, non-elite controller so have limited mapping availability. Since the Quest Wheel recently moved to LB/A and the Pirate Chat to RB, would it be possible to have Pirate Emotes as a subset of the Chat or vice versa? So RB/A?

@ficlet1656 I actually really like this idea. It would free up the entire dpad for hotkey usage giving us console pirates 5 free buttons. The downside, of course, is losing mobility while chatting or emoting (won't be able to jump), which was kind of the whole reason why it was moved from dpad up to RB in the 1st place.
@galactic-geek Thanks! I'm a new gamer (going on two whole months!) so I don't use chat/emotes as much. I actually can't chat at all right now... I gave it up on the dpad for things I use more often: wood (up), bucket (down), food (right), throwables (left). I have spyglass on RS down and changed RB to emotes now that quests have moved (I find emotes more fun than chat, which is why they got priority).
@ficlet1656 Elite controllers do not have more mapping. The paddles on the back only replicate other button and are not their own unique options. They simply let you pull off special combos.

Don’t you need left and right d-pad for books?
@Captain-Coel
Really? That’s good to know.@captain-coel said in Combine the pirate emotes and chat wheels:

That's why I'm disappointed with mine. I wanted extra buttons! Keyboard warriors get them! Why can't I!?
@galactic-geek because you are on a controller, if it had extra buttons you would likely not be able to use it in controller only lobbies for example.

Balance? Bah humbug! 😏
@galactic-geek @Captain-Coel Thanks guys! You just just saved me for spending a bunch of money for nothing! I kept eyeing the elites because I thought they'd give me more buttons for in-game mapping. Good to know I'll just need to be more creative with what I have.
@BrokenTurtle127 Yea, IMO, the last update really helps us controller folk. I'm still recoordinating when I pull up quest maps (that double tap on RB was great!) BUT that open up new mapping options for RB. For the dpdad: even though I have them remapped for food and throwables, the left and right dpad still work for me to read books. The game overrides my mapping when I have a book open and lifted up to read so I can still turn the pages without issue. :)
@ficlet1656 They're still good with the adjustable triggers, joysticks, and D-pad. Not to mention it comes with a carrying case and a really good charge cable. Oh, and the rubber grip on the edges of the controller is to die for! It's always cool to the touch and oh-so firm!

Good to hear you like it! The reviews are so hit or miss sometimes. I like the idea of the adjustable triggers - I have small hands and am left-handed so swordplay on RT is starting to get to me. I've seen the non-welded mod additions for normal controllers but they don't look stable enough for real-life play.
Also, here's the n00b coming out, what did you mean by 5 buttons on the dpad? Am I missing one besides L/R/^/v?
@galactic-geek said in Combine the pirate emotes and chat wheels:
@ficlet1656 4 on D-pad + 1 on right joystick button.
Ok, I know about all of those already. I was hoping there was one I'd missed. Thanks!
