The Kraken

  • I started a solo sloop adventure and was heading from the outpost to the first island. The kraken was upon me in about one minute. As I was moving from the wheel to the cannon, the kraken grabbed me and thrashed me around a few times. By the time I made it back to my ship it was sunk. The entire encounter lasted 3 mins.

While I am glad that I had just started my session and had no loot on my ship, the encounter left me wondering...what if this happened as I was returning from an adventure with loot? It would have left a severe sour taste in my mouth. It really felt like there was nothing I could have done to have won that fight.

I have recently returned to the game after the steam release and I thought that the game may have added new features that would keep me playing this time. This experience, however, really leaves me wondering if I should continue to support this game. How is it that after all of this time, the devs haven't thought through this encounter to give the player even a slight chance at saving his/her boat?

  • @mcgarnicle87 Hello, I beat the kraken 100% of the time solo slooping maybe I can offer some advice. Biggest thing is when a tentacle starts the sucking up animation you need to run below deck so you don't get sucked up. Other than that repair and canon.

  • @osok-op Also don't set sail unless you see a skull cloud or ship cloud in the sky and none of the above will even be necessary

  • @captain-grim834 True! Another great tip if you don't want to even chance it. If it wasn't clear if a skull fort or skeleton fleet is active the kraken cannot spawn

  • Thank you for the advice. I am a pretty new player so I do not know these kinds of tips.

It might be by design, but if you are solo slooping and you do get grabbed by the tentacles, its pretty much over it seems. I wish there was a way that you could get the tentacles to drop you sooner so you have time to make it back to your ship before it sinks. I know that you have to go into this game thinking that you could loose all of your loot...but it just feels bad when you can't do anything about it.

  • @mcgarnicle87 when hes closing the tendril around you fire your gun and hell drop you. You can avoid it all together if you stay in the ship when its sucking. This game can be "hard." However its not dark souls. A solo ship can make it through just about everything. Keep looking through the forums and youll see alot of good tips.

  • You think getting attacked by a kraken while solo slooping is hard?

    No, it's not.

Try getting attacked by a kraken while solo-slooping, and then having a skeleton ship spawn on you that's able to freely move around the ink and shoot at your non-moving ship. Try as I might, I couldn't repair the holes faster than they were coming in. I could bail the water, but with so many holes, in the end it simply didn't matter.

    That's hard.

Rare, why are skeleton ships able to move freely in the kraken's ink? Are they in cahoots or something!?

  • @mcgarnicle87

I'd check out youtube; there's plenty of helpful guides there. Personally, I find it easier to understand and adopt a strategy if I see it in action vs just reading about it.

This one is quite good (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nO3Toxi67y4), but it's hardly the only one.

  • Im sad I haven’t gotten the kraken for a long time i wish they would make it where it doesn’t have an event timer, i hardly see the kraken anymore which upsets me because it shouldn’t follow up on event timer it should be like the megaladon where it is just a tad bit less likely of attacking you then the meg

  • A. learn when the kraken is sucking and avoid that. B. solo sloop is meant to be hard mode not easy mode. if you want easy mode get some pros to help you and carry you.

  • @galactic-geek depending on the type of cursed ball the skelly ship is firing, even this can be survivable, otherwise with anchor, rigging and maybe some others, it's pretty much just a matter of time until you sink.
