Pirate Legend Weapons: Seemingly Unobtainable For Most?

  • The PL weapons always stood out to me as way too difficult to earn compared to the other PL cosmetics. All of the other items are tied to Adventure Mode, which makes sense since PL is exclusive to adventure mode, but then the weapons are... tied to Arena for some reason? And require an absurd amount of wins to earn the weapons?

I get that the stuff is supposed to be hard to obtain, this is okay, but why are they comparatively more difficult to obtain than any of the other PL stuff? I'm a day one player and I've seen only a handful of people with these weapons since I've started playing.

PL can be earned by anyone if they simply play the game long enough. The same should be said for the PL cosmetics. The weapons shouldn't be ONLY available to a select few elites who are extremely good at PVP. I played 10 arena matches and only won a single match (PC player), because you're either playing against new players... or hardened veterans who have exclusively have been playing Arena since it came out. It would probably take me years to ever earn the weapons.

And that's the other thing, 240 wins? Why is the number that high? I could probably get pirate legend 2 more times in the timespan that it takes to get that many wins. It's ridiculous. The weapons should be unlocked via adventure mode commendations like literally all the other PL cosmetics - and if not that, make it so there are some lower tier PL weapons that we can earn in adventure mode if it's desired to keep these legendary weapons tied to arena. Everything in arena should be exclusive to it's faction; the glorious sea dogs. Not PL, the ADVENTURE MODE faction.

  • @reckap The Ships of Fortune update, releasing on April 22nd, aims to fix that, in a way, by completely revamping how the Arena works. 24-minute matches is reduced to 15; there will only be 1 chest at a time, instead of many; and there will only be 1 turn-in location, instead of many. This will incentivize more pirates to jump into the deep end, get them actually fighting, fix matchmaking times in the process, and get more pirates winning.

Oh nice, I knew they were changing it but didn't know matches were being made shorter. I'm starting to think I may have to play on console to have a chance to win, because on PC most the people who are in PVP are like... way way better than me. And I was one of the first 100 people to obtain the glorious sea dog set and have done plenty of PVP, and even then I stand no chance against them lol

  • I think the most frustrating part of the arena is that you get complete newbs that have no idea even how to play.

The other day I joined an open crew...since my regular crew members moved onto "better games". So I load right into a new game instead of a lobby, rush to get the anchor up and than find the map closest to us which was chicken isle with 5 chests. The guy on the wheel wouldn't go there had to blunder bomb him off. We finally get to the island I jump off to dig while they decide to keep sailing. They eventually come back to the island only to look at me bewildered at what to do. I finally harpoon 4 of the 5 chests on board before another ship makes there way and instead of going to hand in they decide to almost drive into a rock as they try to smash into another ship.

At that point I just left couldn't be bothered with it even though I could have had the win with 4 chests.

  • Just grind.

  • It’s not hard, get better at pvp. And the arena “elites” don’t go for wins.

  • @sherpa725 Put that quote in golden letters, only the thrill of battle counts!

  • Would be cool if they attached a commondation to player ships sank, like some absurd number like 1000-2000.
Understand quite alot of us have sank that many and then some. But if they implemented it in the same way they did the commondation for legend cannons, that would be awesome.

  • @sherpa725 This is not an argument. Not everyone can become good enough to win consistently, or even very often.

The commendation for the weapons should be just like the sea dog weapons, but a higher number. Like 500 flintlock kills for the legendary flintlock, etc

  • Been going ham in arena the last few months and it's doable but time consuming which makes it feel worth it in the end when you have all the cool and rare items!

  • @reckap said in Pirate Legend Weapons: Seemingly Unobtainable For Most?:

You earn the shovel and compass from leveling up to 50 in Gold Hoarders (Adventure)
You earn the PL shovel and compass by selling 500 chests as PL (Adventure)

You earn the cutlass and blunderbuss from leveling up to 50 in Sea Dogs (Arena)
You earn the PL cutlass and blunderbuss (along with other weapons) by winning 240 matches as PL (Arena)

    Makes sense to me.

@sherpa725 Not everyone can become good enough to win consistently, or even very often.

Then why do you deserve rewards if you're not good enough? Is it too much to ask for some difficult commendations? Does everything need to be nerfed? It took me 10 months of playing a few matches every weekend with 300+ ping (Australian connecting to American servers) to get my 240 wins. I grinded for it, you can to.

And if you actually took some time to get better you'd realise that your PvP skills don't play a large part in the current Arena. It's whoever can dig up and sell the most chests while avoiding combat. The new Arena update next month plans to change this, and it will become more PvP based.
