Anti-cheat software

  • So why hasn't rare installed an anti-cheat software for their game. If it's because they don't want to pay for it, then screw them. They're literally getting a ton of money from animals and emotes that do nothing for the game. Rare, hackers ruin the game. If u cared about your players at all you would fix that.

  • Much agreed. Cheating is literally pay to win and apparently Rare doesn't want a pay to win system but they still do nothing about hacking.

  • Cheaters aren't huge deal.
Besides, no amount of money will ever be enough to prevent cheaters from finding loops or cracks in the system.

So, yeah, you could have phrased that a lot more respectfully, by toning down the emotion, by like, 100%. By doing so, you'd be far more likely to illicit a civil response, that's actually from Rare, rather than putting yourself at risk due to your anger and carelessness.

  • I feel like there was a particular scenario that prompted this post. Can you explain what happened? I'm not saying cheaters are not out there, but I can't recall running into one since launch. I have been called a hacker before, but that was bc I am on PC and able to do loops around xbox players lol. If you suspect a cheater, unfortunately the only thing to do is report and hope for the best. Best of luck on the seas!

  • @thesinisterkfo they have an anti cheat, and they have been banning cheaters since the start.

Thing is hacks are like a hydra, cut one method down a new one will be made

Then there is the fact that most people perceive server/hit reg issues as hacks/cheats

  • where are these hackers? 2000 hours and I've never seen one. Not saying they don't exist. But I'm saying they are about as rare as the Shrouded Ghost. So that makes them not real in my book.

  • Ive personally NEVER seen a hacker on the seas and ive been playing since before the first tall tale was made. But there are a lot of peoblems with hit reg. Can you please say why you think there are cheaters?

    Very true

  • Most simple cheats will stay undetected, as it isn't aim assist or teleportation. Those things can easily be detected. It is more stuff like having an overlay showing you all loot and other players and if they have loot or not.
This being said, I ran once into a cheater, but I am not sure what happened, as he basically appeared from nowhere (wide open sea, no island even close), missed a few shots (cannon) and disappeared as he did appear. As it was a white sail ship, I guess someone did download cheats and got banned faster than he installed the game.

  • @saschaam he perhaps got merged into your server, that has happened to me before.

I also have had the issue where i took a mermaid and instead of going back to my ship i was suddenly on another ship on the other side of the map.

Both of these cases happened quite a while ago though

  • @callmebackdraft wait, I thought when servers are getting merged I get that text on my screen. The 2nd case you describe I do not understand. You took a mermaid and ended up on someone else ship? I just know the thing where I am on an island and not my ship, which requires me to take a 2nd mermaid trip.

  • Been playing since the beginning and only ran into 1 hacker. They seem to be doing a pretty good job to me.

  • @saschaam if you yourself merge to another server because your server is empty you get a message on screen, however if you are on a server that gets another ship merged into it (so they get a message on screen) nothing really happens to you and your ship thus no message is required to be shown.

A server merge is not actually servers merging together but the ship(s) on a server that is low population or preparing shutdown moving to a more populated server that is not shutting down yet.

The other thing was where i indeed took a mermaid and just as normal popped up on a ship, which should be my ship but wasnt i was suddenly on a random brig whilst my crew was on a galleon

  • @callmebackdraft if the merge really is like you described, this would be a heavy design flaw by rare though. As that should not happen the way it than happened to me. I mean the whole idea of the crows nest is being able to keep an eye on your surroundings, which is basically trashed by "next to you spawning ships"

The 2nd thing never happened to me, but again an example that rare should fix some stuff.

  • I think this post needs to be locked.

  • @musicmee I’m finding it hard to kill people because I hit them several times with my sword and blunderbuss and they don’t seem to die. This happened the other day to me and my mate.

  • So why hasn't rare installed an anti-cheat software for their game.

...because Microsoft did it for them, its called TruePlay. You would know this, had you did a quick google search rather than go half cocked. Internets a wonderful thing, all this information at your finger tips. Yet, everyone seems to forget that.

  • @xtremexbox5975

Are you new to the game? that's because of bad hitreg and not cheating.

Everyone that cries cheaters here have most likely never even seen one at all. The hitreg in this game is awful, you can hit someone 3 times with the sniper without it dealing any damage but the game shows you a hitmarker.

  • @itz-majman I’ve played this game since release date

  • @thesinisterkfo
Hello , i understand your dissapointment , sometimes encounters seem pretty unfair , but not all of these encounters are won by cheating...Take in account that this game is 2 years released, and that many very experienced Pirates roam the Sea , they could pull yer socks over yer ears in no time , sort of speaking…

But i will not deny that there are indeed cheaters ,but what can Rare do , they may import the best anti cheat software to their game , may even hire a special engineer for this , who will work for months to finally find something that helps ...but ...the next day ,some already well have found a way to bypass that defence…

Fighting cheaters is a fight that will never end ...Don't blame Rare for this , every game suffers from this "mentality".

  • @clumsy-george Agreed - there will always be those who break the rules, but the thing people seem to forget is that rules were never meant to stop certain behaviors completely; they were only ever meant to reduce them as much as possible (the same can be said to apply to rules of law). In that regard, I do think they're rather successful, because most logical, sensible, and thoughtful people do choose to follow such rules.
