Too many players trolling

  • Rare, I hope you read these topics, as of lately there has been a huge entry of new palyers, but with these new players also come immature and annoying gamers that sole purpose is to troll and irritate others that simply want to play the game. Now I'm not going to mention any names for obvious reasons, but you guys really need a better a system than the "brig". Twice now I have encountered groups of trolls that join the game only to annoy and crush the voyage that I had set up since the beginning. With the addition of blunder bombs and fire bombs, trolling has just become a whole lot easier. A better punishment system needs to be put in place, especially in a game where people are encouraged to group up. As I am writing this, I will have you know that I am currently in a game session with a burnt, cracking, and flooded ship because of 3 crew members that have now left. I've supported this game for a long time, but until the waters cool a bit, I won't be playing or supporting any more purchases for this game.

  • @red0demon0 Record your gameplay, and report the griefers for griefing, using your recorded footage as proof.

They will experience consequences, if you do this... :P

  • All I can say is that Open Crew is a cesspit that I stay well clear from. LFG is the only way to go nowadays.

  • I too am waiting at an island at this very moment with a troll in the brig that wont leave...

    I suggest a simple solution:

15 mins in brig = kicked from session.

    [Name removed by mod]

  • @da-and-ma Do as @Sweltering-Nick suggested. That is the best thing to do. Also naming people is against forum rules as well just for future reference.

  • @da-and-ma Callouts are against the forum rules. If you need to report a player, please report them to Xbox Live here or submit a support ticket to Rare Player Support.

Your post has been edited accordingly.

  • @gundy-the-shark I agree, although my last open crew session was phenomenal. We were able to fend off and successfully finish an already started FOTD! We thwarted both a brig and a sloop twice! This pirate was brimming from eye-patch to peg-leg :).

  • Lock the party before starting a game.
    Done.

  • @da-and-ma simple yet elegant +1 :)

I already did, but the problem isn't that I encountered some trolls, it's that there's an influx of trolls. Most of these trolls are now also little kids or older aged newer members who don't have the cognitive evolution of caring about others or their experience. They think it's fun to destroy and mess around with others for no reason or even to attack a fellow crew mate just to ruin their game, why? Well in the name of fun, because to them it's simply selfish fun. And I just don't feel like a good or immediate consequence or punishment is in place for those people. I can't even use the xbox app to report them because it sucks on pc, and won't allow me to report them. All I got is to report them to Rare and hope they are keeping to their words that they are serious about the matter. But we need trusted individuals selected by Rare in game to keep an eye on the state of the game(Or something around those lines) , people that are gamers like u and me but when something goes wrong, they click a button, and immediately punishment ensues, whether it be a kick/ ban from the game.
@BurnBacon When you join a galleon to play along side other individuals as the game was intended all in good sportsmanship and with respect amongst each other, it makes no sense why I would possibly close the crew when I'm the only member of a galleon crew.

  • It comes down to chemistry and communication.

Some pirates are quite gregarious, others are a stick in the mud under the best social circumstances.

How do you expect Rare to control player behavior when that is the secret sauce that makes SoT so unique?

From the start, this game has been about four friends in a boat having adventures.
That has always been this games gold standard.

...and yet I too was griefed by toxic pirates that were members of my crew through an LFG not 1 week ago...

    Hello Darkness, My Old Friend

  • @red0demon0

I already did, but the problem isn't that I encountered some trolls, it's that there's an influx of trolls.

There is currently a Coronavirus quarantine, brother... A bunch of new people are trying online games because they're bored.

  • @red0demon0 1 reason is what @Sweltering-Nick said about the quarantines, 2nd reason is currently players can play the game for free during a short period of time.

  • I hate to say this, but I'm very happy to hear that other people are being taught to hate this otherwise-awesome game. My son and I are NOT professional online-gamers, like seemingly every twenty-something person playing this game. We just wanted to go into the game and play some piratey missions. We also got trolled by the open crew mischief that you are talking about. We put the first guy in the brig, and he immediately cursed us and left. So we went to a closed crew.

But what difference did it make? We were minding our own business, trying to complete an Ashen Mission (whatever that is) when some of the professionals who play this game spotted us and completely destroyed us. As ALWAYS happens in this game. My 12 year old boy, who really just wanted to have some fun with his dad, became pretty discouraged, since this has happened OVER and OVER again. We've gotten to the point where we do our little "missions", and if we see sails headed our way, we just hide the loot and scuttle the ship. Better to hope you can come back later and find the stuff in the weeds, versus being ganked, over and over.

In desperation, my son looked online for "hacks", thinking that people have been cheating. I was pretty skeptical, but by golly he FOUND them. I told him that if such things exist, then they ARE being used, and probably by almost everyone in the game. People are obviously not in there for the purpose of just having fun, but RUINING the fun that others are trying to have. Human nature is GARBAGE. (I hear you - it's a PIRATE game, you say - pirates ARE garbage. But this is a GAME. The GAME shouldn't be GARBAGE, and unfortunately, it is.)

So it's a little refreshing to see that we're not the only ones getting a little aggravated while playing a "game" in which others just won't leave us the hell alone.

Private servers will never happen, but they sure NEED to.

  • @countedbog219

How can you judge this game with 1 Day At Sea??? If this is a REAL Account and legit and you literally set sail for THE FIRST TIME, then you have NO IDEA how this game works or ANYTHING about it lol

If you TRULY set sail for the first time and you come in contact with a well experienced crew, I mean YEAH you're going to get destroyed lol

And to call people Cheating or using Hacks because you got killed and sunk?? Come on Bruhhh

I call shenanigans on this account anyway lol

  • @mrbadabing
The number of days at sea is obviously either only for the number of days I've been posting in the forum, or it's a bug in the game. We bought the game for Christmas and have been playing it since. You are "LOL"ing about something you know nothing about.

  • @countedbog219 I know enough that people constantly flood these forums with PvE Only Servers , and Private Server requests when it's NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. I know that you are publicly bashing this game calling it GARBAGE because you simply put are not good at this game and call everyone a cheater or hacker.

This is a Pirate Game where Pirates are sailing around looking for people to sink and steal loot. It's part of the game. How about asking for advice on how to better yourself as a pirate instead of just bashing the game and the people playing it.

  • @mrbadabing
I'll let you have the final say on this. It's JUST a game, and you have accidentally made my point, so we can just leave it there. But it really is kind of a fun game, for about 15 to 20 minutes, until the professionals find us casual gamers. So my son and I will continue our strategy of starting a mission, finding some treasure, and when discovered by you professional gamers, hiding the loot and scuttling the ship. Sometimes when we come back, it's still there.

I'm glad you enjoy this "Fortnite at Sea" game. Just understand that not everyone enjoys that. It's okay to have a different point of view . . . "Bruh". And I'm glad I could educate even a seasoned veteran like yourself on what "days at sea" refers to. LOL!

  • @countedbog219 Ok well when people see your ACCOUNT STATUS as Day 1, we are so used to people making FAKE accounts to keep trolling and pushing for the same nonsense about PvE and Private Servers.

So as a NEWBIE player as yourself, why not ASK us "Professionals" for Advice and Help instead of crying wolf??? There is absolutely zero need for you to scuttle your boat and hide your loot every time you see a boat.

This game is AMAZING, but it is what YOU make of it. I'm sorry you feel that it's only good for 20 minutes and then that is it, because you're missing out completely. Just because you have a few bad PvP Encounters doesn't mean that's how it always is. Put your Alliance Flag up and team up with other players such as yourself and work together. You can always hop servers if you find the one you are in is just to "action packed"

  • Stop playing in an open crew and find yourself regulars you can play with.

  • I recommend Solo Sloop or Closed Crew with friends.

  • @countedbog219

You are a gamer and you are teaching your kid that everyone online cheats or is pro while it is a very very small portion of people that are either? How are they ever going to become better at gaming if they are to believe they cannot improve and regardless of what they do stand no chance?

Maybe instead of viewing casual/hobby gamers as pros and denying all responsibility for the game session you have, teach your kid that games are about the enjoyment, win or lose it is part of it and look at what you could have done better to win? Grow together to become great pirates that can stand their ground?

#BeMorePirate and become a legend, it isn't difficult to be a 'Pro' based on your description. Games are to challenge people not hand over the win! Be a good example for the younger generation and show good sportsmanship, teach them how to improve, learn and overcome the challenges that the world presents them.

Instead of blaming others, look at yourself and learn to play this game, you are very new to it. It is like going to a sport club and expecting to be as good as other amateurs in said sport, because you bought some nice shoes and signed up. It takes time, practice and knowledge.

I'm sorry you have had so many unlucky experiences with other pirates, but the experience I had is a bit different than the ones you expressed with enemy pirates, and I do not agree with your idea of private servers. Other enemy crew members can attack you for the opportunity to steal some gold or resources, and to me that's okay. I however do agree with putting your own crew member trolls in a brig. The idea of one player being punished for trolling is great, but what happens when you have 2 or 3 friends who joined together and they are all trolls? The one being punished would then be the player who is doing nothing wrong. that's the problem I got with this game. I also don't think most people are using hacks, however if u find someone who just doesn't seem to be eating bananas, and doesn't seem to die then yeah definitely needs to be reported

Yeah agreed, which is why I'm staying away from this game for a bit. Rare needs a better way to monitor the waters, simply having undercover task force and people knowing about them being active can do a lot of good.
