Commendation changes

  • Sailor of Athena fortune (or any miles sailed commendation) - 1000 miles is too much. When I hit Athena 10 I had only sailed about 300 miles. I think it should only require 500 miles

Legendary merchant of fauna/legendary merchant trader - these should both be halfed so we only need 250 of each and not 500. The skulls and chest pirate legend commendations are fine because we get skulls and chests for basically anything we do. Skull fort or skeleton fleet drops skulls and chests. We sink someone and we steal their skulls and chests. But with merchant animals they have to be delivered on time meaning you have to have a merchant voyage active so you can't really steal animals. You also don't get animals from forts and fleets so why do we need 500 of them for the commendation? It's the same problem with the cargo. I think these commendations were supposed to require the same effort as the chest and skull ones, but I don't think rare considered just how many more ways there are to get skulls and chests, when compared to animals and cargo.

Legend of the deep - only 50 fish for the legendary commendation? I got that in about 2 hours. Shouldn't this be closer to 2500 fish? I mean we need 500 animals for that commendation so why only 50 fish? We can catch a fish every 30 seconds if we go pondie fishing, and if it's a full crew you can problem complete this whole commendation in about 20 minutes. This is weird to me considering how grindy most of the other Athena commendations are

  • @stevent2002 I disagree, I like the harder commendations as it gives us a goal to aim for. I don;t want things made easier yet again to appease some people.

  • I disagree too. It really doesn’t take long. Let’s not water down the meaning of more achievements. They are meaningful because they require extra effort. Reaching 1,000 nautical miles (I said it!) won’t take as long as you believe if you put your mind to it.

  • @ghostpaw for the past few months I've logged on almost every day and done nothing but sail around for an hour with an Athena voyage down. I'm only at 517 miles. That's way too slow.

And that's not a "hard" commendation. It's just an unnecessarily grindy commendation, designed to make people waste much more time than needed playing this game.
If I had a problem with hard commendations I would've also brought up the legendary sea dog commendation but I didn't... I think that commendation is fine. It's grindy, but can be achieved relatively quickly if you're a skilled player, and it encourages you to actually play the game, unlike the sailor commendation which encourages you to leave the game on in the background whilst doing something else...

I also didn't bring up the animal/cargo athena commendations because they're too slow. I brought them up because they're inconsistent with the skull and chest Athena commendations.
As I said in the original post, I feel like rare intended the merchant commendations to take as long as the skull and chests, but they didn't consider everything that goes into the commendation.
I don't care if they lower the requirements for the animal and cargo commendations, or if they increase the requirements for the chests and skulls commendations.
But they still should make each of those commendations take a similar amount of play time to get.
That's also why I brought up the insanely easy fishing Athena commendation, since catching fish is a whole lot faster than getting any other kinds of loot, yet you only need 50..

  • @octopus-lime sailing around on an Athena voyage isn't a "hard" commendation... There's literally no skill required to get this commendation done. All this commendation shows is that you've wasted countless hours sailing around just to unlock a capstan...

  • @stevent2002 Fair enough that's your opinion, no one is forcing you to complete them.

  • @stevent2002
Love how you say "wasting time" as a excuse that has any weight to it. Grinding is part of the game here, its gonna be here for a long time (maybe 6+ years) before it evolves or stops. who knows, but what I know is....

The less you complete quickly, the more reason you have to login and keep trying. Once you reached the 100% mark...then what will you do?

  • @burnbacon if I ever 100% the game, imma get a bunch of powder kegs and ruin everyone else's game

  • Already completed this one fastest way to do it is with a brig in a closed party, pick a place on the map to do laps with no obstructions, sit back watch a few re-runs while also setting your phones stopwatch, job done

  • @stevent2002 If you want the reward then you will do what we did and earn it. If you want the cannons then you will sink a lot of skeleton ships. If you want the capstan then you will sail the same nautical miles (I said it!!!) that we had to. I don’t remember what we do to earn the helm, but anyone who wants it will do what we did to earn it. This claim that something isn’t hard so it should be neutered is nonsensical. Waking the entire Appalachian Trail is grindy. Building a structure out of toothpicks is grindy. Finishing a 10k is grindy. There are a lot of things in life that are not necessarily difficult but do require commitment to complete that we celebrate. Just because you want the reward without completing the work is not a valid reason to undermine it.
