Combat rework

  • Let me start of by saying I love fhis game. It is one of the Best games I have ever played. Give it a few more months and it will probably be my favorite game. That being said I think the combat has gotten very stale and predictable. As a community we need to get some good ideas together so we can actually make a change we want to see! These are some of my ideas. Some of them are probably dumb. But that is why the community is an amazing thing. We can figure this out together.

    Sword
-the sword dash best use is to fast travel. It needs a rework plain and simple.
-damage for the sword needs to be raised.
-there should be some different combos to change up the flow. Right now its just spam.
-different sword styles could use different combos. Sabre, cutlass, scimitar. All these swords could have a different play style. This would make sword combat feel so much better. You could master a certain sword type. Or be a jack of all trades and switch it up often.
really think a good system for swords would be light and heavy attacks. Take away sword dash and make it a heavy attack.
-The sword really should be the bread and butter of combat. No pirate should ever want to go without one. Adding light and heavy combos would be a great way to reward people that got good with the sword. Right now there is really no skill in the sword. Just swing away. Make it require a skill to master so more pirated will use it again.

    Eye of reach
    -need to add headshots.
-EOR would be a one shot head shot
-an option to take off the scope would be great. Or just adding a new rifle with iron sights.

    Pistol
-also make it a one shot to the head.
-need better style pistols with better iron sights.
    -pistol reload should be quicker.

    Blunder
-I don't think too much needs to change with the blunder. The one shot is pretty realistic. Which is why I think headshots should also be added.
    Quality of life things.
-more ammo capacity for all guns would be nice. Fighting skellies and constantly running to the ammo box is really annoying. Ammo cap to 10 or 15 would be a great change I think.
-more options for swords and guns. I think this would really help not make the combat feel so stale. Having more of a pool of weapons would provide so much more different PvP and PvE encounters. Instead of every person you see just running what is meta at the time.
These are all just suggestions. I love this game and want to see it grow. I haven't played in a couple days because the combat has felt so stale for so long. I honestly don't enjoy PvP combat fights. I love the ship warfare. But when the steel and gunpowder start to clash it is just boring. I miss the long drawn out sword fights. Lets bring them back and better than ever!

  • While I would appreciate tighter feeling combat, I feel that the devs need to spend time making more varied content that isn't the same old voyage. more lore and things to discover. The combat as it is is still very serviceable.

I do agree about the spammy sword. I wish it were like it was when the game launched.

  • your forgetting that increasing the ammo count would do nothing but increase frequency of double gunners and do nothing but make double gunning a far more viable strategy than what it already is. if the ammo count is to change at all, it needs to be 5 bullets for ALL guns currently equipped.

the blunder also should have a decreased range to about 5m before the pellets disappear and deal no damage. EoR should have a knock back off ladders, if not that then the flintlock should still have it.

sword needs to have the lockout added back in to prevent weapon swapping and 1 shot blunders when your standing behind someone.

a lot of balancing needs done and its sad that RARE claims to hate the double gunning, but everything they do to get rid of it, does nothing but antagonize people to use it more often. before they balance any weapons though, they need to get rid of double gunning PERMANENTLY

  • @kin6-nothin6 I agree. My biggest issue with guns and ammo is it makes fighting skellies a nightmare. I always just end up using my sword. Wouldn't be so bad if the sword wasn't so stale. I hope they add more sword types/fighting styles.

  • @outeatamerica and that's one thing my friends and I were just talking about. like adding a 2 handed axe or something that would have a slower attack speed but deal more damage to not only other players, but also be more useful against gold skeletons than the regular sword as your would have more force behind the initial strike dealing more damage.

  • @kin6-nothin6 right. If you want to get rid of double gunning just make melee combat more fun and complex. Really hope they make some changes soon.

  • @outeatamerica if you want to get rid of double gunning, your going to have to force players into 1 playstyle, and that's forcing everyone to use 1 sword and 1 gun no matter how bad rare doesn't want to do that

  • @outeatamerica There is nothing wrong with double gunning... The sword is plenty powerful just poorly designed.

  • @betsill

There's nothing wrong with two guns, but the ranged instakill is very much wrong.

  • @ultmateragnarok The ability insta kill hasn't been in the game for a long time. There might be some sort of work around to shoot faster but it's still a decent delay.(unless there is some new bug that i'm not aware of)

  • @betsill

There have been those bugs ever since they tried to fix it for the first time. It's the reason so many people still complain about it.

  • @ultmateragnarok What the shoot swap sprint shoot?

  • @betsill

That was one of them, might still work in some cases but there have been a variety of versions. I don't particularly keep up with which works and which doesn't, I do find against them with the cutlass.

  • @ultmateragnarok After a quick bit of googling, I found that sprint canceling is probably all that exists as a way to decrease time between shots. And it's not even close to a problem big enough to worry about.

  • @betsill

I heard about something where it's been slowed and made significantly harder but is still possible, not perfect but it's progress. Hopefully it is finally done for good, it's taken far longer than it had any right to.

  • @outeatamerica

    Eye of reach

    -need to add headshots.
    Pistol

-also make it a one shot to the head.

No, that would give PC players the obvious advantage. Hard, resounding NO, to these suggestions, brother. x]

  • @sweltering-nick controller only lobbies. There are headshot multipliers in plenty of cross platform games. Pubg, apex to name a couple.

  • @outeatamerica

Yes, and they are giving advantages to M&Ks over controllers. Sea of Thieves is built against that - the advantage in gunplay that M&Ks have is lessened, and controllers were given an advantage in ship controls, so different input devices favor different styles of combat. We have controller-only lobbies because some people couldn't be bothered to use strategy instead of rushing the enemy ship where they were (outnumbered and outgunned and leaving their crew at a disadvantage) and started a segregation campaign which grew from others like them under various alternate names and false claims.
