Cooking 2.0 Adding a social element to cooking!

  • Cooking as it is now in the game is used mostly for mechanical purposes. To heal more and gain health regen.

I purpose that a crafting functionality is added to alow crews to cook full meals that have a varying of non-gameplay effects that are ment to be just fun while also adding a host of achievements and rewards for finding recipes

    • New Item: Cooking Pot
This would be an item placed next to the ships stove where the player would put ingredients for what ever meal they might be making. Think like how it functions in the Legend of Zelda: Botw

    • New Item: The Recipe Book
This would be an item that can either be in the characters inventory or a item you can interact with at the stove on your ship. It would keep track and record all recipes the player has learnt. Half the fun would be mixing and matching ingredients to see and catalogue all the meals

    • The Social Element
I imagine a new table placed in a ship that can support as many crew members can be on that ship. Once a meal if completed you would press a key prompt at the Cooking Pot for "Serve Meal which would move the meal onto the table with each crew mate getting a plate. They can sit down and use Key prompts for Taking a bite of Food or Taking a swig of Grog. This could be extended to Taverns at any Outpost. A player could use some coin to order food and people could eat at the start or end of a Voyage there.

    • The Effects of these prepared meals
Much like how grog makes you tipsy and throw up, cooked meals would have effects that are purely social in nature and not give any gameplay benefits.
Such effects could include, Over eating making the player walk slowly and maybe give them a new walking animation show how full they are, Throwing up if the food is prepped wrong, Falling asleep from food-coma.

Anyway that's my idea. if you have anything to add or have ideas to make this work better please post them below.

  • I love this idea
Reminds me of Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild.

  • I think that instead of just pressing a button to serve the meal, you should have to pick up the pot and take it to each plate on the table to serve it up.

Other than that, love the idea! It’d be tough to implement but very immersive!

The only problem I see here is that there needs to be a LOT more foods and ingredients added for this to be interesting enough. Right now there’s not a huge amount of diverse food options.

    love it

  • @gundy-the-shark
Well there are already sugar, spices and maybe even ancient bone dust could be used.
On that what if you could use your sword to cut the food to different sizes?

  • "Welcome to Pirate Pete's Particular Piratical Particularities of Perfectionistic Piratical Perfections! What can I get for you today?"

  • @gundy-the-shark IMAGINE THIS WHILE DRUNK LOL

  • @fllw3rb0y That would be great

  • Love the idea but I don't see why it shouldn't give in-game benefits like the currently implemented health regeneration since it does (I presume) take a while to prep. Also this would finally give the brigantine's serving window a purpose.

  • I'd love to have a large "Pot" be something you could find upon isles to be used instead of the default frying pan, you could then add a mix of fruits and or meats and water for stews, broths, soups etc.
These could be scooped with the Tankard to be consumed.

Ahhh me dreams of a Soup Sloop. One day i pray, one day.

  • spices should get added so you put chilly or cinnamon to make the food quality better.

  • @ixxolos A soup Sloop is an appealing idea! I already often gather supply to give them out to others when im alone on a sloop

  • It wouldn't make me feel more Pirate and to be honest I'd rather Rare spend their time and resources on something else.

  • @lem0n-curry It would make for a decent expansion for the Hunters call

  • @olgilviemaurice yes please

  • I would add you need to use your bucket to get water to put in the cooking pot for some foods, use your lantern to create a flame under the cooking pot to start cooking so you have time to put all the ingredients in, and have fruits and vegetables grow on island. For example you can find carrots growing out of the ground, also make it so all the other small things like spices are already on the ship on the shelves everyone uses to store their skulls and keys on the sloop and brig.

  • @dauntingbread46 While I very much like this idea my worry is about making the mechanic too obtuse for players.

Something with a low barrier of entry would be best as to not alienate any new players.

  • i would like to this kind of improvments when and if they fix the hnters call. this plus the addition of new sea life and monsters would be great!
