Connection between non-native English speakers and immaturity/aggression?

  • This is more of a “share your opinions” thread than a tale. Just fyi.

99% of the time someone starts cursing at me in-game - whether they’re attacking me or me them, or whether they’re spawn camping me or I them - they always seem to have a strong non-English accent and use their native curse words.

99% of the time I’m dealing with someone from US or UK, they’re either friendly, don’t play unfair, or at the very least aren’t mindlessly bad mouthing me.

Example: I was trying to alliance a galleon at FOTD 4 times, each time they just boarded and sank me. After that I tried sinking them twice. I was making it clear through Xbox messages that I just wanted the alliance money bonus and commendations. I sent all crew members the same messages, none responded and half the time they were within hearing range, the only things I heard were “idiot”, the F word, or some other slurs and insults. They also seemed to love shouting “You’re nothing!” I don’t know why, maybe they though that would for some reason hurt me. lol

Anyway, what’s your guys’ experiences and thoughts?

  • Why the hell did you post this in the tavern tales section?

  • You were harassing them tbf!

Not everyone wants to be friends.. next time someone says no that means no! They sunk you multiple times.. that should be clear they don't want to team up!

I can see this post being taking very offensively by people.. be careful next time

  • @josiah4294 Wow that is slightly even racist so what if english is not my primary language? I speak 4 languages and i will communicate do everything just like anyone else keep these dumb thoughts to yourself.
It is frustrating to play with non english players its a language that everyone should know but its not like we are at your country/ house we dont have to do anything i cant stand how a person from UK or US treats someone from somewhere else like he is some kind of a foreigner, guess what its not your house its Sea of Thieves.
Whats the point of this dumb post?
What did you thought that would be the outcome of this? Youve just said that people who arent from UK or US are more aggressive and hostile and tried to sugar coat it even if they speak english.
You are not better then anyone i think that people from UK or US are awesome but not better then anyone, how about youll go out there and discover other then dumb opinions.

  • Clearly a lot of people either misread something in my post or completely missed the point.

First off, language has nothing to do with race, so my post is not in the slightest bit racist. You could be fully African or Asian and still have English as your native language.

Secondly, not once did I state anywhere in my post or even hint that I think people from UK or US are better than others. I simply stated a simple fact; that most foreign people I’ve played with have been immature or aggressive, and that most people from major English speaking areas were the opposite.

In terms of me “harassing” the crew I talked about, I was trying to gain their trust by coming back each time and not attacking. They even said in voice chat “you’re not stealing ++++” so clearly it wasn’t just them not wanting to be “friends”. They also weren’t angry, they didn’t sound p+++++ off or annoyed with me, I really just think they couldn’t care less about how they talk to people. They talked like your average immature PVPer, making snarky remarks each time they kill you.

  • @josiah4294 Ahoy matey!
