Different Grog

  • In my opinion I believe there should be different types of grog or booze you can buy in game, if you played Deep Rock Galactic before you know what I’m taking about, I’m not saying copy off them but I believe it would be a great addition to the game, you could go to the tavern and buy a keg of a certain type or strength of grog and it would have 20 or 30 uses till you would need to refill it or buy a new one from the tavern, and sunken ships would have them as well as a new merchant alliance mission with delivering boozes to different Tavares across the map. This is my idea for new missions and content for the game I hope you all like it!

  • Besides the name, what would separate 1 grog from another?

He's talking about different kinds of grogs that might give you slight boosts to your stats. I'd be scared to add something like this without really considering the balancing but it's not a completely bad idea either.

It would add another layer of depth to finding these treasures and deciding to sell them or use them as well as add more interesting loot.

  • Grog. Historically.

    One part sour (lime)
    Two of sweet (sugar)
    Three parts strong (rum)
    Four parts weak (water)

That old Royal Navy rhyme is the recipe for grog.
Personally I use Pusser's navy Rum for the recipe.
Kraken doesn't do well with it.

    Splice the Mainbrace, gentlemen!
Sailor lingo for serving the grog.

The word grog came from Edward Vernon, Vice Admiralwho wore a grogram coat and introduced the watering down of rum for the sailor's rations.
He was known as Old Grog amongst the sailors and grog was somewhat of a derogatory term for the watered down drink.

The Royal Navy did away with the rum ration for sailors in 1970. A sad day in navy history.

Alternatives to grog? Historically that would be wine or beer.
Pirates would often be drunk from wine captured from the ships they took.

Having been drunk on many of these, I can say that the drunk is different for each.
The idea of different drunks is kind of cool, but would be a nightmare to implement in game.

There should be no increase in stats for being drunk. Rather the opposite.

What is being requested is more akin to a protein drink or a magic potion.

    Aye, me rambling be over.

  • @butterybarnacls Thanks for the history lesson. I might actually try that recipe! 😅

  • @galactic-geek It is actually quite good. And gives a taste of history as well.
Make sure the lime is nice and tart!

  • I've been thinking they should add something like Tea or Coffee to the game for a while now. We have Tea Crates, why not actual functional tea? Something with benefits like, increased movement speed, or attack speed, or sleight of hand.

That reminds me of my other old favorite game and a quote from it: "Those who say, 'There's nothing like a nice cup of tea for calming the nerves', never had real tea. It's like a syringe of adrenaline straight to the heart."
