Welcome to Sea of Thieves... Check out that last word there. It means sometimes in a sandbox game of this nature, people don't want to ally or they want your stuff. Maybe they just want to see the world burn and go out to troll. This is the game, and going into it should have been aware of this.
There are many reasons why people don't ally:
- Lack of trust
- They have been burned before in alliances
- People just reap rewards and don't contribute (Happens ALL the time)
- Don't care to ally
Most of the people I play with fall into not caring (doing our own thing) and get tired of people mooching off us or just not doing anything to make the alliance worth it.
As for your suggestions:
- Interesting thought, might help some players be a little more trusting based on Risk/Reward. Not sure this would change the above said, but interesting. (Trust is a major factor in this game and well doesn't come easy.)
- Yeah this won't change anything, for example I go for the glory and the loot is a bonus. Of course we want the best loot possible, but if you have something that is of decent worth. I'm going to grab it along with your supplies.
Most are out there rolling for easy grabs, I typically don't bother on simple boats with loot that is of lower tier or doing simple voyages, but others sometimes just going for it all.
This is the game, RISK vs REWARD. I like your idea of maybe alliances bonus, but honestly that will be exploited since we already see force alliance servers or people trying to avoid the grind. So I am not totally for this but interesting consideration.
As for stolen loot being less, well that is a bit ridiculous. Just learn from the game and get better at fighting or avoiding if that is the case. That is the heart of the game play and a massive reason why this community is here.
Find some solid friends on the forums or where ever and get out there with the buds have have at it. May take a bit, but to me this is much better than going out and trying to find alliances. They do happen, but who can you really trust?
