Microtransactions

  • I spent £50 on a game where the main reason to play is to earn money to buy cosmetics that have no effect on gameplay. There's nothing else to spend that money on, as you start the game with everything unlocked in terms of weapons etc. So why are we now expected to spend more money on stuff that should be a part of the standard edition.

  • You clearly haven’t heard the whole story. There’s some stuff that can’t be talked about since it’s Insider information, but the gist is the micro transactions are also cosmetic only that don’t affect core gameplay. It’s an optional additional revenue source for Rare to keep the cash rolling so they can keep releasing free updates with more meaningful gameplay content.

  • @blam320
All I'm saying is that a game with an initial cost of £50 shouldn't also introduce microtransactions

  • @MiniChadderzzz thats a lot to ask of a triple A game these days. Do you complain this much about a game like black ops which has micro transactions that are some of the worst gaming has ever seen probably not.

  • @minichadderzzz
I wanna point out when the game launched it was barebones. They originally planned for microtransactions early on. But the game was in such an empty state, they pushed it off to work on releasing content. Plus everyone would have rioted....

Here we are over a year later and they are just now releasing them. Not to many companies would have put it off for the sake of retaining players.

I hate microtransactions too. And for a game that is all about cosmetics, we dont have alot of them. But its takes cash money to make stuff like Tall Tales. You think those cimematics were free to make? They have to have a way to keep the cash rollin in. At least Rare will keep their word about the game not being pay to win. Like i said i hate them too mate, but its somethin u gotta accept. Even if you dont buy any

  • @minichadderzzz the thing is if you want to keep receiving free monthly content updates they need to have a way to monetise.

The way RARE is doing it is the most ethical way possible.

Also it has been known since before release that this monetisation would be coming and it is as promised completely optional.

  • @minichadderzzz Sorry but it's how the industry works today. If people have a problem with it now they should've pushed back and voted with their wallets when Horse Armour was a new thing.

  • So we get future content and the devs continue to support the game??

  • You could kind of say the same thing about fortnite and that game got really popular and made a lot of money

  • This is a "Online service game" (at least for the moment, I hope if someday in a very far future they stop with the game, at least we can play privte in our own sessions, or at least singleplayer.) This means, that they need to keep the servers open, and this also needs maintenance. We are not talking about a lineal game or with a story mode like for example call of duty, or Tomb Raider, or whatever game out there. This is an open online game, you buy this game as it is in that moment, but the game keeps changing, cuz its not a finished game and it never will.

You are paying for a service that is constantly improving, with devs, creators, designers and a huge amount of people who is working every month to bring new things. Its not like you are gonna play a game with an end and then you play it again 500 times. Im against the companies that makes you pay for silly things Call of Duty for example, which makes you pay 60 euros for a game, and then you have to pay for getting stupid things for your weapons, when you already paid a lot for that game. But thats totally different cuz its a finished game and Sea of Thieves its not.

So basically you are saying that you paid for a service online game, and want to keep them working for free for all the players? They need to earn money too to keep the servers on and to still create more features and improve the actual game so it keeps growing(also they are people, they need a salary too)! Also they dont make us pay for the Expansions, they are totally free, so I dont see the complain here, they are gonna sell cosmetic things with any kind of purpose or use, so... Just buy if you want to have it, no one need it to keep playing the game. They said not all the new stuff is gonna be on the "real money store", so just some little part of the cosmetics will be there (or that's what they have said), so No worries for the moment, you are gonna be able to keep buying new things with your in-game gold.

If you want to support the game and you want to thank the devs for their hard work, you can help them by buying something of this microtransaction store. If not, thats okay. It's jus optional. You can STILL PLAY THE GAME LIKE ALWAYS.

    Yeehaaa!!!
Spread the curse in the seaaas!!

  • ye in cod you have to pay 50 and 50 more for a season pass with map packs ,allready finsished mappacks ,same for fifa people buying every year the ultimate edition for 100euro t get playercards(ultimate team) but thats not a guarantee you will get a world class player so people spend 100$ more for playerpacks its pure pay2win....

  • I must be confused. I've been playing the game under the assumption that the reason to play was to pretend to be a pirate with my friends. Guess I had better stop sailimg and start trying to find those outpost fashion show I always seem to miss.

But seriously. In the archaic days of online gaming I am from, for a single player game that would likely never see any more content or patches, you paid $30-$50. You also paid that much for an online game. And than usually paid more very month to play it. And then played more for expansions if you wanted access to extra content. Because it turns out that game development and running servers costs a pile of money.

In short, stop whining about being given the option to pay more for cosmetic options that don't even affect the game, because that is a pretty sweet deal when it comes down to it.

  • @minichadderzzz

my reason to play is be a pirate. Not to gain cosmetics.
So in that spirit. Added cosmetics for moneys is all fair to me even if u bought the game like me.

  • They could also sell updates as seperate DLC Packages, like GTA does, mate. Any complaint about microtransactions is pointless, you can play the game "as is".

  • You don't have to buy the micro transaction cosmetics if you don't want to. It won't affect your "in-game experience". It's just a standard way for gaming companies to make some more money to pay their employees.

I'm sure at some point there will also be paid DLC packages as well. Dev's have hungry children at home too. But I'm thankful that Rare have (so far) promised never to start with "Pay to Win" purchases. Like a +5 Blunderbuss. Because then your "in-game experience" really will be influenced.
