And this is why ships run from other ships

  • I’ve been playing the game since April of 2018. With that said I had not been spawn killed since late last year. Tonight I watched a galleon with basics and an Athena brig duke it out. Galleon sunk. Then the brig went after the galleon again, and they were both at an island forever. Then finally the galleon was running from the brig. We wondered why. Well here’s why my sloop partner and I were spawn killed by the Athena Pirate Legends for over 20 minutes. They repaired our ship after they killed us the first time. Then they kept spawn killing us and saying we sucked. Which is true, we’re not good at pirate to pirate combat. Then they kept telling us to scuttle. We didn’t scuttle, because that’s what they wanted. We had treasure on board and lots of supplies, and they took none of it. They even rode our sloop around Lone Cove. Of course we’d kill one and then the other 2 would kill us by being on our sloop and the other on their ship firing cannons on top deck. Each time they’d repair and continue to spawn kill us. We finally got away with our sloop because we loaded in at the same time and knocked 1 off and killed the other. One guy seemed invincible he took point blank to the chest blunderbuss several times and never died. But the others did.

Anyways... people run because of people like them that just spawn kill for 20+ minutes and make fun the people. I remember when I first started playing this game back in April of 2018 I stopped playing for a couple of months because I kept being spawn killed by Pirate Legends.

  • @purplemajic under the newly released code of conduct that would simply count as harrasment and is a punnishable offense

    https://www.seaofthieves.com/code-of-conduct

  • @callmebackdraft I reported them via the Xbox report. My sloop partner has video of them telling us to scuttle and telling us we suck. He’s going to submit it to Rare.

  • @purplemajic I see that @CallMeBackdrafT beat me to the punch. It's abuse to verbally abuse people and use game mechanics to hunt people down over and over etc.

While from your side the fix is simple: Scuttle ship and stay away from that area or simply server hop. I'd have to ask you to raise a ticket because the abuse these people give (if your story is as I read it) is just punishable.

I can totally understand a few spawn killing to get a ship sunk or to loot supplies, but to spawn kill to rub it in on people that there are better players out there is just a huge no for me.
It's also a really rare occurence and not the norm, so no the game didn't change since april 2018, the general public also didn't change, you just didn't meet this particular breed because they're not everywhere.

  • @purplemajic jep, that is the best course of action.

I sometimes keep spawnkilling during battles but only if i am:
    A) Waiting for my crew to bring our ship around.
    B) Siphoning supplies

Me and my crew, never keep a ship afloat just for the spawnkilling aspect. I dont see the fun in that anyways.

  • Yes, I understand spawn killing fir those reasons, I have no problem with that. But they took nothing and didn’t sink our ship. They raised anchor to drive it around Lone Cove not to crash it into Lone Cove.

  • Rare are not going to do a thing about it! Don’t kid yourselves.

  • @biter-wylie They will.

  • @biter-wylie have you even seen the new dev update and the newly released code of conduct ?

    They will act upon this.

  • Id love to see a Navy faction and a Pirate or Rogue faction in SoT. Something to help differentiate the PvPers from the casuals

  • @uribedh said in And this is why ships run from other ships:

There are plenty of "PvPers" who are "casual" and plenty of "PvEers" who are not.

As for a faction, there already is one, the Sea Dogs (regardless of the reality of Arena, a lot of Sea Dog commendations are aimed at PvP)

  • @realstyli What I meant with factions was to allow the choice of a joinable alliance when you entered adventure mode. Players of the same "game alliance" would not be able to hurt each other. Something like the Rogue or Pirate "game alliance" would just mean a free for all group with no actual guarantee of player protection. I don't mean to create a specific server or game mode to separate players, instead, more so to establish an indicator for friend or foe

Edit: It's a complicated mess to articulate what I'm picturing in my head

  • @uribedh Pray tell what magic would prevent one from hurting another crew in a game where it's even possible to hurt your own crew and ship?

Also, why do people want to have factions and systems in place to tell people how to play the game. Accept and respect the freedom sea of thieves gives us.

  • @hynieth Why not? Let's split the community between pirates and sailors. The Merchant Alliance has potential to become something great, with the right lore. Why are there no Merchant Navy ships police-ing the seas from piracy? Id love to see something like that. The British Navy hunted down piracy in the Caribbean, why not have that here in SoT? It would lead to some sick fleet battles. You can trust a pirate to be dishonest and to double cross their own, but not the Navy, cus they ain't pirates

  • @uribedh I'm against any setting that would prevent two crews in an alliance from hurting one another. Even if we leave aside the delicious double cross, it leads to balance issues. The only advantage a single ship has against an alliance of two is the confusion that can be created in an alliance. Such as the ease of accidentally killimg your alliance members in melee, or being able to get one alliance ship to accidentally fire on the other. Removing this makes alliances way overpowered, and since pvp is a core and accepted part of the game, it would be unfair to disadvantage players who choose the pirate faction.

  • @uribedh I'll give you an example of why not:
At this moment in time I can roleplay a pirate who is nasty and kills for loot. Hunts down all ships and sinks everyone he comes across.

I can roleplay a passive pirate who politely asks everyone to leave him alone.

I can roleplay a protector of the seas patrolling the seas to hunt down pirates and kill those nasty pirates who hurt others.

If you railroad people into picking sides I can't do that anymore. Because I'm FORCED to do either one or the other, I cant switch it up, I cant choose to honor or break an alliance because magic prevents me from damaging others?
It's honstly quite baffeling how people just can't see that what makes Sea of Thieves great is the freedom it gives you, it doesn't limit you to either attacking one or the other faction it gives you the freedom to choose.

  • Why are people offended by everything

  • @mc-leggers I am downright offended you lump me in with "people"

  • @badassfro said in And this is why ships run from other ships:

I'm offended this guy thinks pirate legend means you are good at combat, guess he hasn't realized how easy it is to get now and how it has absolutely nothing to do with your pvp skills lol

  • @uribedh well one:
Sot is designed with the intent of Tools not rules, basicly at no point is anything set in stone for a player during gameplay, the other thing is the lore aspect, the merchant alliance is an ofshoot of the Grand Maritime Union (GMU), ex members of that union created the Merchant Alliance(MA), and they are doing alot that the GMU doesnt like, not seize lands, pirates for getting and transporting good etc.

The GMU is not liked with the current factions in the SoT (have a chat with the mysterious stranger f.i.) because the GMU is basicly looking to have fool control over the SoT as a whole.

In the future we might see their influence and have them as an enemy, maybe some tall tales or something. But the reason the MA hasent set up their own trade routes is because of the way the GMU did the same and they want to be more inclusive with the rest of the world, or at least the SoT.

  • I’am Pirate Legend with Athena 8. I got PL last year BEFORE it was easy. I even have the Achievement trophy sails. And I’m still not good a PVP no matter how much I try pirate to pirate combat. I’am however really good with cannons. I’m not a boarder, because that’s not my play style. The game is to be fun for everyone. I don’t pick on newbies. I’ll even get into ship battle with newbies who I can hear from their open mics are excited to try to sink my sloop. And sometimes, especially if there is a kid on the crew, I’ll even let them sink me, because it makes them feel good about themself.

  • Been playing since the Beta, I’ve been a PL since last July, I love this game. This is the most toxic community I’ve ever been a part of though. Even the forums are full of nasty people. If this commentary doesn’t apply to you, that’s great, hope to see you on the seas and enjoy a friendly alliance with you or a sportsman-like rivalry. The toxic players know who they are and immediately get butt-hurt when called out. Unfortunately, this is most likely, not going to change. As for the boarding/spawn killing. A good mechanic would be retractable ladders from the deck only. It will add a nice “passive” defensive aspect for the ship with a downside if you get knocked off. It would also make ship to ship combat more interesting. It won’t be the same old tired META and would drastically cut down on this type of toxic gameplay.

  • @purplemajic You're good people.

    Keep being awesome.

    -A new player

  • @purplemajic
Well, Mrs Purplemajic , Luckely for you and many others there is the New Code of Conduct.Extremely volatile to those that have pleasure in putting verbally and repeatedly down...Send your video evidence towards Rare Support , and Xbox Support and they will "Permanently " ban them...

Well, i don't believe that anymore of course , but you have to think this way: People like that will do that to others in real life too, but life has a lot of humour and one day they will put down the wrong person , and then they better pray that they didn't met a person with their sick mindset that will break them and once they reawake will break them again...Life is strange and Karma does not know Mercy...( * Hell, Moron , i suddenly start to like you , i don't know why,)

  • @whyo people would still be able to fire themselves onto your ship even with out ladders. Even more importantly however clumsy pirates such as myself would not be able to quickly hop back on their boats haha. Would need to sort out some sort of solution for that other than having to swim away from the boat to get to my mermaid.

  • Saturday night we had 2 sloops chasing us and telling us to join their alliance. We joined hoping they’d go away. One fired on us. The other kept telling us to stop so he could change our lights to purple. The fort went away so we were just trying to get to an island before we got krakened. We figured the guy was going to kill us and take our loot once we stopped. We’ve had that happen before. Ask us to alliance then they follow you around and then they sink your ship steal your loot and unalliance.

Anyways, the guy scuttled his ship and got on our sloop and slopped with us for 5 hours. He was like a member of our crew. We still had a mega keg to dig up, so I row boated to the island while my partner and him went to another island. Then I rowed the mega keg to the outpost. We sure didn’t trust him, even though he friended us on Xbox. But by the end of the morning we were glad we didn’t sword him off the back of our sloop while he was fishing. 😂😂

  • @bootmaclir that’s the thing, no one is saying you have to utilize it. If knocked you’d have to use a mermaid, that sucks. That’s the trade off. It’s an option for those who may be a bit more sure footed 😎 j/k. I personally would utilize it and can honestly say that I have never had someone land on my ship from a cannon shot, let alone having multiple land from the same crew. Most likely, because they can just board freely. Having lowered ladders invites others to climb them. I’m saying give the option to the player.

  • @whyo

You’ll be surprised to know I landed on another ships deck, on the other side of Plunder Valley that I didn’t know was there. I was just trying to get to the west side of the island from the east side by my ships cannon. Didn’t know they were on the other side. 😂😂

  • There was a lot of uproar yesterday after the dev video with players freaking out. I think this is definitely what they are looking to end specifically. Fortunately we have only had it happen to us (my crew) a couple times but it makes you want to quit entirely. I'm sure there are just some who are unlucky enough to have it happen more frequently. I'm also sure the regular PvP folks will be just fine as long as they keep it sporting and not a situation like this instance.

@Whyo I would be more than willing to test it. Perhaps they could give me a bigger ship so I stay on it..

I can attest to this. PL10 for over a year, and I am trash at PVP.

  • Should have just scuttled the ship. That stops that right there.

  • @purplemajic
Honestly you should have just scuttled.

Not saying what that did was cool. Spawn camping is boring and pointless to me. But you kept yourself in that situation by scuttling.

I know this is what they wanted, but you were better off gettin out of there, grabbing a few barrels and come back for revenge.

  • @purplemajic hats off to you my friend. That must have been quite the surprise.
